12 Days of SPN Femslash. Day Two: Winter Wonderland.
Emma goes home for the holidays, leaving Tracy behind on their college campus alone - where the weather is relatively warm and snow never makes it to the ground, if it even falls. Tracy, jealous of that true winter weather and spirit, sends Emma photos of herself the entire time - mostly of her dancing in her underwear - to remind her of the warm weather she's missing. Emma, missing that warmer weather, sends Tracy photos of her out and about in the snow - mostly of her having fallen into piles of it. It may not be what either of them truly wants [which is to spend the holidays with one another], but it's their own little technological winter wonderland and they love it.
“Here it is; team free will. One ex-blood junkie, One drop-out with six bucks to her name, and miss comatose over there.”

”I loved you so much. I didn’t care. Most people, as far as I can see, when they’re in love with someone and the love isn’t returned, feel that they have a grievance. They grow angry and bitter. I wasn’t like that. I never expected you to love me, I didn’t see any reason that you should. I never thought myself very lovable. I was thankful to be allowed to love you and I was enraptured when now and then I thought you were pleased with me or when I noticed in your eyes a gleam of good-humoured affection. I tried not to bore you with my love; I knew I couldn’t afford to do that and I was always on the lookout for the first sign that you were impatient with my affection. What most partners expect as a right, I was prepared to receive as a favour.”

They started out as online friends, quickly discovering that they live in the same town. Claire was a year younger than Emma and still in high school, Emma having freshly graduated. The two of them became fast friends, meeting up outside of the online world - and even when they weren't meeting face-to-face, they were talking online using Skype. As they grew closer to one another, Emma realized that Claire had feelings for her. Emma, having never been with a girl before, had no idea how to respond. Claire never pushed her feelings onto her, so their friendship remained unbothered, purely platonic. The two of them loved hanging out, talking about their lives. Claire talked about her father and how he disappeared one day from her life, Emma talked about how she didn't actually know who her biological parents were - that she had been adopted. One thing became very clear about Claire - she was a troublemaker. She was always stirring things up, getting herself into problematic situations. Emma did her best to try and help her out, but she wasn't always the best influence either. Being a party girl who liked to go out late at night, or take off for a couple days on a whim? She couldn't really leave room to judge. When Claire finds herself being sent to a center for troubled youth, Emma finds herself asking herself if all of this is worth it, just to watch someone she cares about fall further and further into a life Claire may not come back from. It was easier when they just talked online, before she met her, but now? They're both just teenagers, even if she's out of high school herself. After a couple weeks go by, Claire contacts Emma with a new dilemma... but Emma tells her that she can't do this anymore, all the drama, the fights, the chaos. When Claire tries to defend herself, to plea to Emma, all she gets in response is, “I’m sorry. I just can’t. I’m done.”
