After his conversation with Inias brings suspicions to his mind, Castiel approaches Dean for a conversation.
When the house heads to bed, Castiel goes down to the basement to continue researching so he isn’t looming over a sleeping Rufus. He stops to ask Inias for assistance on finding out more about how the Grecian god’s nectar and archangel grace impact ichor.
(Why is archangel grace involved? We are only canon to 6.13. But in S9 the show presented the theory that due to the length of time Gadreel was in Sam there was left over grace. Sam was bonded to Lucifer in the Cage for over a century. The nectar would have healed Sam completely, but the archangel grace is caught up in the frayed edges of his damaged soul. “Ichor” was considered a divine substance in the gods, but lore says it can also be in humans. A human who is a vessel and had demon blood put in him - it stands to reason Sam has that. Lore says ichor needs balance. Sam has nectar and archangel grace both fighting for dominance at all times. They’re looking for a way to remove it -- but our guys never hit found the bunker, so they don’t have access to the extractor. Rufus found an old mimeographed copy of some of Haggerty’s theories on angel grace being able to be removed, but they don’t have detail on the Men of Letters.)
January passes into February. The fact that the research is going nowhere is wearing on everyone. No, seriously. Everyone.
Sam and Dean and Rufus and Bobby and Cas.
The red cap who has been the go-between with Dean and the Seelie Court is summoned by King Oberon. He needs his assassin at the ready to help turn the tide in the civil war between the two fae factions. He wants the Unseelie’s witch allies put down before the spring equinox so that the the normal seasonal ascension of the Seelie Court goes off without a hitch.
Dean has been hoping he would never have to tell his brother he made a deal with the Fae that he would be their assassin if they could get the grace out of Sam. But time is up.
Sam finally gets the truth about what is going on.
