YBA FOR THE DAY -
For sponge day (25/11/15), we got in to a group and decided to trick people in to getting engrossed in to something that wasn’t there. The first half of the video shows us choosing a spot on the ground beneath Millennium Bridge and in small groups going over and making a fuss over the nothing that was there to see if we could get anybody to come over and do the same. I’m not too sure this part was successful because we all look like student friends, which we are, due to the way we’re dressed and our behaviour to each other.
However, we went into Tate Modern and tried to stage something similar, this time making Lydia pretend to be a Tate tour guide complete with clipboard and lanyard. Again, in small groups we went over and were told to queue for the “tour” which was to commence in 5 minutes. We successfully managed to trick two poor ladies in to believing it was a real tour and spent the next 10 minutes on a silent tour walking through the scaffolding underneath Abraham Cruzvillegas’s ‘Empty Lot’ before finishing and walking our separate ways, leaving them baffled. Sorry!
Just goes to show, though, that people will go along with anything if there’s a big enough crowd, despite having no idea. (via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LRTz4sXmEA)
