Spore Prints!

These are from mushrooms I gathered from a cemetery:

This one is from a rosegill I found at the creek yesterday. I fudged it a bit lifting up the cap:

I like to let the mushrooms I gather make it rain on the paper overnight. I like the dense prints they make, even if it warps the paper a bit. Then I let them dry for a day or more, and hit em with fixtative. 🍄🖤🍄

Room mini tour...

...well more of a corner tour lol. My partner calls my Witchy corner. I got new shelves short while ago organzied my space in the style of a curio cabinet, sort of. More of a cabinet/dragon pile...anyways here's glimpse of how a Raven personalizes their space.

I love everything about Goblincore, Gremlincore and Crowcore, but I lean more towards spooky, witchy, and halloweeny which is why I feel Ravencore is the most accurate reflection of my aesthetic.

Went "shopping" today. Most of it was scavenged right off the ground. The exception being the rosemary and flowers.

A niffty basket would probably be more "aesthetic" of me, but I kinda prefer a paper bag, because I can fold it up and put in my pack or my pocket.

Wish the photo was a little more focused, but I thought it looked cool and wanted to share. 🍄

I made some spore prints! 🍄 I used watercolor paper in hopes that it would handle the moisture better...nope. If I only left them for a couple of hours, it probably wouldn't warp the paper, but fuck it; it's worth the super thick print and I'm okay with imperfection. I should have used better lighting, but I too excited to share.

When I say thick, I mean THICK. Some parts of the print are 3D. It looks like the gills broke off and attached to the paper, but it all spores baby. Microscopic spore piled a mile high!

These ones I'm using to make 1-inch buttons.

The blacks spores came from these type of mushrooms:

The fixative spray diminishes the vibrance of the spore prints a bit, but they still look amazing. I let them dry, and hit em with the fixative, then I either framed them with a photo mat or keep them for myself. God damn, I fucking love mycology. 🖤🍄🖤

Visited one of my favorite local places last week and brought some treasure home. I'm going to make a post about the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery with the photos I took, but here is what I collected:

Mushrooms I made spore prints from.

Acorns, moss to make moss jars and eucalyptus...berries? Not actually sure what they are called...lemme look it up...nope not berries, seed pods, duh 🤦🏽‍♀️ lol. The eucalyptus trees in the cemetery are going to be removed, as fire season is year round in California now and the city dosen't want to risk losing our native Oaks to a fire hazard. Soooo, into my pockets the seed pods went.

And cemetery dirt! Respectfully collected from under a huge Oak tree, a little bit away from the graves.

Last week was just the first expedition, to explore and get a feel for what I'm doing. I want to make a whole project celebrating this particular cemetery. An article in the paper a while back renewed my interest and now I'm bringing my Ravencore asthetic in tow.

Wanted to share some of the things I've been working on...

This set really just needs the right box to be finished. I've been looking for a blue or blueish box, but haven't had any luck just yet. I'm also thinking of turning the bottle into a moss bottle. I've added a few items since I last shared this set. Probably will just keep added blue items until the right box is found.

This one is Fire and Sunlight themed. It's also waiting for the right container. I'm thinking velvet bag, but a box could work too, if it fits the theme. Originally, this was orange themed, but it kinda organically expanded to include yellow and red. The shells fit the theme too, then light is just overexposing them...

Owl Treasure Jar. An Avon owl jar I thrifted. The original paint on the eyes wore off, so I made them green.

It's pretty full, but it might get a couple more small items that will fit...

And lastly, a curiosity box still in the works. I found the box at a thrift store, and was tempted to give it a paint job, but I really like the natural feel. It needs a few more pieces, and I want to put simple labels that say what thing are in each of the matchbox dividers. The little glass bottles will have new and different items, like more moss or dried mushrooms; I just used these ones to see if they would fit.

Being a Raven means you're basically a spooky goblin with dragon friends and it's reflection can be seen in your shinnies...

Mushrooms I've encountered that last few days. I don't eat mushrooms, but I'm completely enamored with them; their beauty and biology fascinate me, endlessly.
