There was a post going around a while go with a Spotify alternative where you could even migrate your playlists. I thought I reblogged it with a relevant tag but evidently not?? I was putting off migrating my stuff but I recently got an ad for 🧊 so I think I’m finally fucking done with Spotify! Anyone know wtf the other service was or what post I’m talking about???
For anyone else who's annoyed about how bad Spotify Wrapped has become, can I recommend you try Last.fm instead? They have sooo much data, perfect if you're a statistics nerd like me, and a lot of it is available even without a paid account!
This is their "Wrapped" (they call it the "Playback") for 2023, because (like any reasonable end-of-year report, hmph) the one for 2024 isn't available until... the end of the year. Yes, it counts ALL your listening, even during the last few weeks of the year.
You can also get a monthly or even weekly report. Here's mine for last month, November 2024:
There's so much more data that I didn't screenshot, too. And no, I don't work for them, and I'm not getting paid to say this. I'm just a Last.fm fan.
The only thing it doesn't do is actually provide you the music to listen to. But Spotify sucks hard in that respect too (re: artists not being paid for their streams, etc., we all know the drill).
You can link Last.fm to almost any app or website you use in order to scrobble (i.e. track) all the music you listen to there – YouTube, Apple Music, Radiooooo, etc. (And you can even disable individual scrobbles if you accidentally listen to something super embarrassing and don't want it contaminating your data.)
Anyway if you like my music taste, we should probs be friends, so feel free to follow me on Last.fm!
Qobuz Student Plan
Qobuz Student offers the lowest price for a subscription with access to a catalog of over 100 million tracks in high quality.
French owned. Pays the artists.
Spotify used to do a thing where you could make a radio station based off of a playlist, instead of only making one based off of an artist/single song. They don't anymore. Does anyone know a service that will do something similar? Pandora *kinda* does but I don't love their algorithm
Did you know 8tracks has been up and running for several months now? That is has an app? It’s 100% free and doesn’t have the level of fuckery you find on Spotify?
You can find mine here. Look up lists based on mood, characters, films/movies, stories, ideas, whatever.
Did you know you can check out music and audiobooks entirely free from libraries and rip copies of it for your own personal use? I have audiobooks ripped onto my PC and burned onto discs that I can listen to whenever I damn well please.
Spotify is a train wreck. Amazon is a nightmare. Go elsewhere when and if at all possible.
