When I made my Lady Plates Series, it was an experiment with clay as skin/hair color, using clay as a canvas, & a reenvision of Women in different Colors as if they were comic book characters. I rarely focus on human subjects in my work but I felt after the Women’s March there needs to be more Women of Color represented in Art and not just fetishized. It should be normal to see people like me or black/brown bodies in Art.
