This is bad! If the far-right gets more than 33% of the seats, they’ll have a shot at blocking some legislation and maybe even blocking the election of the next President of the Electoral Commission. They’d be able to influence EU law and shape the EU budget

If you oppose the far right, you should be worried about this. If you support refugees you should be worried about this. If you support freedom and the independence of the justice system, you should be worried about this

Right now the EU has the ability to trigger Article 7 and take procedures against member states that undermine the rule of law - and if you’ve been keeping up with the rise of far-right movements in Europe right now, you know why it’s important that the EU has that ability. If the far-right populists gain influence in the EU, they will be able to block this

Please spread this! And if you live in the EU and are able to vote, please vote against the far right populists.

If you’re running for election to the EU Parliament, don’t make the election about the issues the far right wants it to be about. As much as I’m pro-immigration, that’s exactly the kind of thing that they’re using to get people riled up and we can’t fall into that trap right now. And don’t defend the status quo either: talk about what you’re going to change, not what’s going to stay the same. Issues like

Fighting climate change

Protecting people’s data and privacy

Improving living standards

Protecting the rule of law

Focus on whichever of these is the most important to people where you are

And - again - if you’re an EU constituent, make your voice heard on those issues. Make the candidates pay listen to you
