Surviving Spring Finals
Right now Smith is in the midst of finals! Friday-Monday we had reading period, and Tuesday-Friday we have finals.
To help us de-stress before/during finals Smith has a lot of programming (free massages! pop-up arcade!) and a ton of free food. For instance, Mon-Wed this week there’s hot chocolate and cookies in Young, a (literal) wagon of snacks comes through the CC every night and the Trash for Treats program gives you a free cookie in exchange for your recyclables and clothing.
I may still have one more essay to write before I can celebrate being officially done with my first year of college, but in the meantime there’s plenty of free food to keep me going!
End of Spring Finals
Last Friday to celebrate the end of the year and help everyone de-stress from finals, Smith brought in a mini petting zoo on Chapin Lawn! There were bunnies, goats, sheep, a pig, an alpaca, lots of different birds and more. A super friendly goat even jumped on my lap and I felt blessed! A wonderful way to end my first year at Smith :)
Sheep!
A really friendly goat that jumped on me!

STUDENTS! PROFESSORS! AND TA’S OF THE UNIVERSITY!
Students, Professors, and TA’s of the University!
You are about to undergo the Great Exam, toward which we have
striven these many months. The eyes of the class are upon you. The
hopes and prayers of future careers now rest upon your shoulders.
In company with our brave classmates and brothers-in-arms in
other schools, you will bring about the destruction of the exam anxiety,
the elimination of negative vibes throughout the lecture hall,
and security for ourselves in a job market.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your exam is well written, well
equipped and poorly curved. He will fight savagely.
But this is the Spring Semester! Much has happened since the Undergrad follies of the
Fall. The students have inflicted upon the course great defeats,
in projects and group papers. Our study groups have seriously increased our
readiness for multiple choice questions. Our tutors have given us an overwhelming
superiority in understanding of the material,
and placed at our disposal great reserves of knowledge.
The tide has turned! The students in the program work diligently.
I have full confidence in our devotion to passing and skill under pressure
We will accept nothing less than passing grade!
Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of caffeine upon this great
and erudite undertaking.
Signed,
Students everywhere
FemmeTeks Finals Preparation Guide:
It's that time of the year! Spring finals are almost upon us and it's time to start prepping for those long exam and packing up for the summer.
Finals Preparation (if your exam is cumulative):
Step 1. Gather all of your notes from the semester and organize them by test.
Step 2. Gather all of your tests together and put each section of your notes behind the tests. Some professors won't give you back your tests, what you can do instead is ask to see your exam and mark down any areas you got wrong to study later.
Step 3. Go through each of your exams and pull out all of the questions you got wrong for each exam and build a new exam out of those questions.
Step 4. Review all of your notes and retake each exam anyway (all of the questions) as this is a good way to review over the materials from the semester.
Step 5. Breathe, relax, don't get too stressed out. You'll do fine.
Finals Preparation (if your exam is non-cumulative or only second half of semester):
Some professors don't like to give too many tests so they just give a midterm and a final exam. This can be hard for some people because the exams are now weighted more in comparison and it's hard to know the full extent of the testable material. Some steps for making the best out of this situation include:
Step 1. Gather all of your notes from the semester and organize them by subject.
Step 2. Google your class name and include the words ('final' 'quiz' 'exam 2' etc) to see if you can find any quizlets from people who have taken similar exams before. You can do this for all the tests and exams you have, it’s definitely a huge help if you can find something!
Step 3. Make your own test. Ask your professor about the format, the content of the test and if there are any specific topics that are definitely going to be on the test. Use what your professor says to make a sample test to practice your understanding of the material.
Step 4. Take your self-made tests and see where your knowledge is lacking in the subject. If there are areas that you do not understand, go back through your notes, ask your instructor, compare notes with friends etc. until you are able to explain all the concepts effectively.
Step 5. Breathe, you got this. Tests can be stressful, but you got this far already!
These were some basic ideas for how to prepare for your finals this semester and there are many other different ways to study and re learn the material, I hope these are useful to you!
