"You're almost as tall as Snow... I hope you're not as dumb as him too."
I got the last of my Donkey Konga games in and my 2B! I had put off picking up Donkey Konga so many times in Japan, and I planned on finally picking them up this last trip…but the bongos and games were finally sold at my local haunts. Of course it would be that way -.-. So I ebayed them! And the prices weren’t too bad. I’m actually quite glad I got the bongos the way I did. I definitely paid more than I would have in Osaka but honestly it saves me the stress of shipping over seas so I’m happy to pay that negligible difference. Also I cannot believe how awful the cover is to the NA version of Donkey Konga. It looks like a fucking Sing Star cover. Now obviously 9/10 the JP cover is always better across the regions but this is a first party Nintendo title. What were they thinking?
And finally the dreaded 2B…is not that bad. That said I can totally see why most people would have a problem with this figure. And I’ll get ahead of it and say by some dumb luck I have no QC issues…which is shocking considering I can buy from every other line and have paint across a figures face, or a scratch across a large span of die-cast…I digress though. I got lucky here. But besides that my only issues with this figure is in the hair, shoulders and (the obvious/least surprising thing about a square release) knees. There is really no excuse for the hair to be transparent. Especially when the character wears a black cloth around their eyes…you know, like right under their bangs and along the hairline..Absolutely no foresight here. But the knees are something I expected. And I treat them the same as I do the sister line..either deal with them or obscure them with camera tricks and posing. Square has a long history of doing this…that at this point a smarter person might realize that - that is just the way they do things. To my knowledge this is the only way they have ever done knees..so the point has lost almost all meaning. So I guess that just leaves the shoulders as my real complaint. while the ruffles are a cute (and also accurate) touch, with the current body type they are using it has been an absolute hindrance. There are a few creative joints in here that allow for enough movement for me to not be too upset…but when it comes down to it, there should have been a different shoulder system to allow for more movement. But if I had to be realistic, they are using the same body/engineering for Kaine…and inevitably A2. Neither of them have giant maid outfit shoulder ruffles so why put that much money into a single figures body type. Plus the solution would just further distract and break up the sculpts as it is.
