The Crimea Return With A Double Album
The Crimea :: Square Moon Double-Album (2 x12”/CD) – 29th July Alcopop! Records and Lazy Acre
"Husky soulful vocals and a mixture of lazy, hazy-day summer songs, bursts of heart-string yanking nostalgia and slow bittersweet melodies." NME
"A new album is building buzz on music blogs for its upbeat sound and wistful lyrics” Wall Street Journal
Returning after a hiatus, following the release of the bands second album “Secrets of the witching hour” (which defined legendary status as the first ‘big album’ to be given away free), the band are set to return this summer with a slot at 2000 Trees festival, a headline show at The Jazz Café in London (more dates to come) and most-importantly the release of a new double album “Square Moon”
Based around the lovelorn lyrics of Davey McManus, Square Moon is a dazzling technicolour tour de force through woozy pop, ragged folk and desolate piano led tracks – best exemplified by the track LAST PLANE OUT OF SAIGON, which was released as a free download to a chorus of approval back in April.
With the music industry being radically reshaped by the internet (remember those days), The Crimea were among the first to see the potential and opportunities afforded by this fresh new landscape. Six months before Radiohead and Prince, the band decided to release their second album, Secrets Of The Witching Hour, as a free download in 2007. 100,000 downloads in three days resulted in a huge worldwide news story that included interviews on Channel 4 News, The Wall Street Journal and The Hindu Times. At the end of the year, Q Magazine labelled the move as one of the top 5 moments that changed music history.
Now they’re back, and better than ever.

What right have you to impose your ideas on me? The right implied when I listen, absorbed in them. What right have I to impose my poem on you? You are already making yours before you start to see or say. This is the best poem.
