My goal this year was to be growing 100 or more cultivars/varieties of plants between the front and back yards. I didn't take an official tally, but I'm pretty sure I smashed it. For example, in just this picture the following are visible: 5 types of lettuce, 6 types of basil, 2 types of peppers, 2 types of nasturtium, 2 types of calendula, 4 types of cucumbers, 2 types of pansies, strawberries, Mexican gherkins, cilantro, thyme, yarrow, kale, Brussels sprouts, Jerusalem artichokes, passion fruit/flower, tomatillos, at least one tomato plant, amaranth, sweet peas, and the beginning of some morning glories, with many more varieties just off frame. I never read the book on square-foot gardening, but the internet is a great resource.👍 Yards are small in suburban New York, I just wanted to maximize (delicious) productivity. Garden beds and boxes I built this spring and the soil used is my 20+ year old compost pile.👌 All that's growing right now (under the hoops on the beds for the winter) is garlic, carrots, kale, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, rosemary, some others.. the usual cold weather suspects. I'll be going through withdrawals all winter so please tolerate my garden throwbacks.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ In theory, next year should be even better. #garden #gardening #urbangarden #foodforest #vegan #vegangarden #squarefootgarden
