Okay one more from the suggestions I got
Orrizz was out for a meeting with the elder brain so Squild had decided to surprise him. Surprising Orrizz was normally impossible for Squild because their mental connection was so strong. Any thought that entered his head, Orrizz would see immediately and Squild could see all of his. But when talking to Elder De'cadad, Orrizz's thoughts would be fully dominated, giving Squild the smallest window to do something nice.
The plan was a fancy dinner. When they traded with drow they often were treated to large banquets and Orrizz loved them. The drow usually were just showing off and they rarely if ever served them actual brains, but this dinner would be different. Squild didn't have much time so he flew outside to obtain his romantic dinner.
Dinner proved difficult to find. Squild had thought a good target would be a small group of adventurers that were dumb enough to get close to the colony. But he came too late and the colony had already taken them. He debated killing some thralls but he actually enjoyed the ones they currently had. Finally fortune smiled on him and when he went back to the colony. Another member, Rth'la, had overheard his thoughts.
"You two are the strangest illithids I've ever met but I can't help but find your antics amusing." Rth'la said, "So I asked for two of the brains from labs."
Squild had to restrain himself from hugging them, "Thank you Rth'la!"
Rth'la brushed him off, "Just get me something nice next time you two travel."
"I will! Thanks again!" Squild said floating off with two jars full of brains.
Squild was overjoyed, this was going to the perfect. He flew through their apartment door and got everything set up. Candles on the table, a place setting for both himself and Orrizz. He cracked out a bottle of elvish wine they had gotten in a trade deal once. He got changed into his best robes and waited. Orrizz soon flew home with an excited look on his face.
"SURPRISE!" Orrizz said holding up a basket. Inside was a picnic blanket, two jars of brains, and a bottle of wine.
Squild looked shocked and then laughed. Orrizz looked confused until he saw the dinner spread behind Squild.
"Even disconnected we share thoughts, don't we?" Squild chuckled.
Orrizz laughed and pulled his husband into a hug. "Yes, yes we do."
