[Gentleman Ghost]: Hold on a moment, dear fellows, that silly little device that my darling Edward gave me is making one of its little irritating chirps ...

What's going on between you and Squire Shade?
What I know of him is that he's a horror host. Storyteller of the Macabre. Much like Cain and Abel in their respective houses, and Elvira Mistress of Darkness.
Indeed, what you’ve said is correct. When the old bat is feeling sociable, he will bring ‘round his horrific Nightmare Coach and tell ghastly tales of hauntings from years past… I have been regaled by some of his yarns, and I will begrudgingly admit they arouse sufficient dread and terror. He’s good at his craft— as he should be with all the years he’s had to practice. He tells an absolutely spine-chilling one about an outlaw, a train, and a herd of sheep—
Ahem.
When he isn’t trying to make grown men wet their trousers, Squire Shade is a recluse that habitually avoids humanity for the comfort of books, wealth, and solitude. The man is completely asocial; there’s not a single companionable bone to be found in his entire ectoplasmic body— he treats all mortalkind like his ignorant children or amusing pets, and ones that he’s not especially fond of, at that.
In short, his lofty attitude irks me. I love humans- the living, rather- and Shade’s refusal to see them as more than playthings gets under my- ha, ha- skin.
And I might owe him a vast fortune from gambling debt.
A fortune which I suspect he thinks Crane might somehow help him collect— that’s Shade, for you, wielding mortals like a fine scalpel or a blunt cudgel as befits his needs, and being too arrogant and self-absorbed to think they won’t notice being manipulated.
