Yup. I’m done. I don’t think I have to say it again so I’m just gonna say give this book all the stars. I never thought that I could like a sequel so much after being disappointed with the first book. This book was full of everything and I loved it from the beginning. I had loved the world and the empire created by the author but not Eon/Eona. This book made me really respect and appreciate her character. She had her moments of weakness and selfishness but in the end she sort it out and well I had my moments of cussing and swearing at her actions but hey, all’s well that ends well right?
I don’t really have words to describe how enthralled and mesmerized I was with this book .There were secrets, there was love, there was betrayal, there was death, there was power, there was greed, there was understanding, there was hope, there was enlightenment, there was sorrow, there was pain, there was happiness and there was awesomeness! This book started off with Eona finding her way to meet the Resistance and the Prince, if he was alive. Ryko was dying and the other dragons were bereft after the death of their Dragoneyes. Eona realizes (on Dela’s request *ahemm* command, of course) that she could heal using her dragon’s power. By the way, the Mirror Dragon is just simply epic and wonderful; I mean all the dragons are but then through Eona, I felt as if I was also somehow connected to her power. So, coming back to the story; when Eona tries healing Ryko, things start going out of control and she finds herself being torn apart by the cries of the other ten dragons. However, Ido’s Rat dragon comes into action and helps her. Ryko heals, but a lot of the villagers die. After they leave the village, they have trouble sneaking around because of Sethon’s army on heavy patrol. But somehow they manage to get back Kygo. Eona finds herself deeply filled with Kinra, her ancestor’s thoughts. Kinra wants to take the Imperial pearl and the realizations hits Eona as a blow. Later, she becomes Kygo’s Naiso, which means advisor. The love starts blooming. Kygo decided that they have to get Lord Ido back. Oh, there is a lot of action there and man, it is amazing. Take my word on it, the action in this book keeps you on the edge and you find yourself biting your nails in anticipation and then later you find yourself screaming thinking someone you liked was gonna die. Ahemm, so back to the story, Ido’s freedom is basically to help Eona control her powers and know how she could help Kygo get back to the throne. Ido starts with the sessions and whenever he gets out of hand, Eona controls his will. Payback’s a bitch, eh Ido? Oh, did I forget to mention that when Eona healed someone, she developed a link to their Hua and could control it as she willed? Nevermind, moving on, Eona finds herself attracted to Lord Ido in some dark way and it also results with the kind of compulsion she uses on him which is pain with pleasure. There is a lot of distrust between Kygo and Eona and also a few kisses, (but the first kiss was the hottest for sure) and then there is the call of duty. Kygo has to show prove to everyone that Eona is on his side and under his command. It brings a lot of tension between them and that leads to Ido getting somewhat closer to Eona. There is kissing between them too. Dela, who is my favorite character in case you were wondering, finds out more about Kinra’s history. Kinra was in love with Somo, the then Rat Dragoneye and also a lover to the Emperor. Eona finds herself in the same situation and can’t conclude if it’s a coincidence or a prophecy. There was a lot of more fighting and action as they finally find their way to the Eastern Resistance base. Dillon had the Black book and the Gan Hua had driven him mad. He only wanted to kill Lord Ido and knew nothing about control.
Towards the end, the big secret comes out. It was absolutely shocking. I wouldn’t have guessed that the dragons were not willingly joined with the Dragoneyes. Their egg, which was the Imperial Pearl had been stolen and their Hua had been bonded with the Black book. The string of pearls was actually the way by which the Dragons renewed their energy. If something went wrong during that, it would lead to complete destruction of land. But all this comes out when Eona has been captured and controlled by Sethon cause the royal blood could bind the dragoneye’s power.
The end fight, the whole war scene is just…I can’t even find the right word for it. It felt as if I was in the middle of the battlefield. Every single line left me with dread, then a shivering hope and then back to panic and despair. It was amazing! I had never really liked Ido and I thought that maybe he was somehow changing but then I also knew deep down that he was only manipulative and power-hungry. Eona took too late to realize that, but the ending couldn’t have been better. This book was perfect. It deserves a gold star and my shelf of “awesomeness overloaded”.
