Saint Benedict and his twin sister Saint Scholastica.

Once a year, the two would meet in a farmhouse to discuss spiritual matters. On their final visit, knowing she was close to death, Scholastica asked Benedict to stay the night so they could continue their holy conversation. Benedict refused, citing his Rule which forbade monks from spending the night outside the monastery. Scholastica bowed her head and prayed. Immediately, a violent storm erupted, making it impossible for Benedict to leave. When Benedict asked what she had done, she replied: "I asked you and you would not listen; so I asked my God and He did listen." St. Gregory the Great later wrote of this moment: "She could do more because she loved more."

Daily Tarot: Knight of Pentacles

I drew the Knight of Pentacles as my card of the day. First, it is a court card related to the material, to the physical, to Earth (Pentacles). Earth is cold and dry, feminine, heavy, inward-moving, and resistant. It is the element of form, matter, limits, weight, and duration. Things that belong to Earth grow slowly, take time to settle, and only change with effort.

But, like all Knights, this card is also Air. Air is hot and moist, masculine, outward-moving, and belongs to the level of reason, planning, and organisation. Air is the element that measures, plans, connects, gives shape, and puts things in motion according to an idea.

The strength of this card is the ability to turn space into a place of work. You look at the ground and you see steps, order, and sequence. You see what comes first, what must wait, and what depends on what. This is practical intelligence.

Outside - I have 7 flower charms which symbolize the Seven Sorrows of Mary.

Inside - I have a few little things I collaged together that I have found out and about or that someone has given me! I definitely have a junk-journaling style approach to pocket shrines haha. I also have some quartz + angel & flower charms + a butterfly🦋 charm that symbolizes the resurrection of Christ.

Contents - I have some drawings I did that bring me peace & joy that I fold up and tuck behind the quartz 😚; One that compares the 7-pointed Fae Star with the Immaculate Heart (Seven Swords), and another of Our Lady of Lourdes. I have a St. Benedict rosary bracelet (one of two I received from my aunt when my father passed) that reminds me of my desire to improve myself/the world. And a necklace that I've been wearing basically everyday, but I keep it in here when I shower or sleep. On this necklace I have a charm for each of my babies; A Leo ♌️ charm for our Rosalina who we lost a few years ago, and a Capricorn ♑️ charm for Tadhg who we lost this past year. Today was my due date for our sweet baby boy but I miscarried a few months ago. I also have a green agate charm (connection with nature) my mother gave me, and a Fae Star charm my aunt gave me this past Christmas🎄🤶🏻!

Pope Leo XIV lights a candle and prays in the Cave of St. Benedict at the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace of Mentorella near Guadagnolo, Italy, Aug. 19, 2025. Tradition holds that St. Benedict lived in the cave as a hermit for two years during his early monastic life.
