"HEY! I'll have you know I'm just being dramatic for the sake of it! If I had an actual issue, I'd have made it much more clear by now!" And she's blowing a raspberry at Scarlet... and clearly having perked up upon seeing her.

Fernando wasn't making it in America. The slate of horse girls that he'd been tasked with managing were talented, but fell within the averages and happened to be racing at the same time as superstars with multiple GI wins on the books and more to come. None of this seemed to bother the enigmatic Director Akikawa too much: his acing of the JLPT N1 exam and previous training experience, results notwithstanding, impressed her enough to make her jump at the chance to offer him a job. "You know, those American-born trainees living here could use a familiar face from home!" she said in her e-mail... before making sure that his first assignment wasn't that.

Yeah, well, my face is about as familiar as a kick in the shins. After being shown to his brand new home—not an apartment, but a small house!—and leaving most of his luggage there, he made his way to Tracen Academy on foot. Among the paperwork in his suitcase were a picture and a vague list summarizing some achievements of some honor student named Mejiro Dober. Whereas "Mejiro" was a prestigious name in Japan, he wasn't able to appreciate it yet. In any case, here was his new office, where he was scheduled to meet her right about now. He started to set his things up. This computer looks the HP Pavilion we had when I was growing up in San Salvador, are you kidding me...
