Fog Lake, aka Aaron Powell, somehow had “15+ label rejections” for new album ‘captain’, finally finding a home with Montreal’s Stack Your Roster. His part-ambient, emotional songwriting is so assuredly his – you couldn’t mistake it for anyone else’s work. The quiet storm of ‘california’ is my favourite from the new LP.

Newfoundland, Canada -- Fog Lake will be releasing his new album captain this Thursday July 5 via Stack Your Roster. I’ve always found his music to be intoxicatingly good, and with his new track “monster,” I really just can’t stop listening. I love that his music can either have a gentle build to them or something that kicks right from the beginning. Fog Lake is a master at making music that feels like our deepest thoughts and feelings are manifesting in sonic form, whether it be self-doubt, fear, pain-riddled love, or even hubris. “monster” is dark and numb but it’s that kind of deep comfort that consumes you entirely.

Montreal, Quebec -- You KNOW that I’m going to write about Fog Lake every time he puts anything out. Yesterday, he announced that he will be releasing his next album Captain on July 5 via Stack Your Roster. With that announcement is his new single “California,” giving us a little taste of what’s to come. We still get his classic grainy and lo-fi vocals but I love the heavy presence that the piano has on this track. I’d say that this isn’t one of his more mellow, forlorn tracks and definitely has a bit of an upbeat kick to it. Either way, I’m gobbling it up and you know I’m already hyped to hear the album.
