Headcanon prompt: Steven and Andrew planning a surprise for Adam’s birthday

I wanted to write this out earlier but it was when you were travelling and I wanted to wait till you got back home and now its super late BUT:

Steven and Andrew have been planning for months. They got the idea after they filmed in Australia.

Adam just really loved filming the wine episode and exploring the wineries and they realized it would be the best surprise for Adam’s birthday. 

Napa Valley is the place TO GO for wine in California, but it tends to cater to those with much more money than Andrew or Steven make, plus that’s really not their style, so they choose Sonoma Valley.

Steven and Andrew also decide that if they’re going to make this trip, they’re going to relax, no work, no hassles, just chill time. Adam does so much for them, for Buzzfeed, and for everyone else, he deserves a break.

They rent a cabin in the valley called Redwood Retreat for a week, a cosy place with no cell reception (but still has WiFi just in case), fully furnished and within walking distance of a cute cafe and fairly close to a few wineries by car, it was perfect.

A month before their trip, Steven and Andrew tell Adam to ask for the week of his birthday off from work, but that is all. They secret eats up Adam for an entire month; what could it be? What do his boyfriends have planned for him, why a whole week??

When the week comes they all pile into Steven’s car, their usual seats, with printed driving instructions, not going as far as blindfolding Adam for the 6 hour drive to their cabin, but begging Adam not to ruin the suprise by guessing.

Adam, being the loving boyfriend that he is, keeps most of his guesses internal, Los Padres National Forest passes by, as well as San Jose and San Francisco and by hour 5 he get antsy. 

“Can I at least get a hint?”

“Where’s the fun in that?” Steven asks, turning around to smirk at him.

Adam groans loudly, “ You two are the WORST.”

“You’re going to love it.” Andrew says. “Trust us,” Steven continues.

Adam nods off and in what feels like not much longer, he’s woken up by Steven petting his hair and gently shaking his shoulder, “Babe, we’re here.”

When he blinks awake they’re surrounded by the rich green of trees and out the window he sees a warm, inviting cabin. 

If they told him they magically jumped to a fairy tale land, he would have believed it, it was so serene as picturesque, the air clear with the faint scent of pine and slightly warm air clearing his sleep addled brain.

Steven rounds the open car door to him, grinning and pulling him in by the waist, hands finding his lower back, “Happy Birthday, do you like it?”

Adam smile is all teeth, bright and beautiful. He’s happy he didn’t ruin the surprise by prodding for answers. “This is amazing. Where are we?”

Andrew walks up to them from Adam’s right, backpack slung over his shoulders. He rakes his left hand up Adam’s head, fingers massaging his scalp briefly, “Sonoma Valley. We’ve got a wine tour and tasting scheduled soon.”

Adam grins wider, if that’s even possible. Steven kisses his cheek, “Mmm, we knew you’d love that! Ready to be wined, dined, and ravished for a week?”

Adam laughs, pulling Steven, then Andrew in for a kiss. “Well if you insist.”

Andrew’s smile is more gentle, bringing his hand down to cup the side of Adam’s face, “Oh, we do.”

His heart warms at the attention. With all the work they do they rarely get a moment to pause and touch, not for long. It’s just he needed, what they all need. “Thank you, I love you both.”

Andrew strokes Adam’s cheek, “Love you.” Steven’s hold gets a little tighter around his waist, squeezing him lightly, “Love you too babe.”

All is fair in love and Mario Kart. That’s what Andrew realizes when he and Steven go to Adam’s for their third date for a night of pizza and video games. It’s not the most datey concept ever, but the three of them go on dates for a living, so this is a nice change of pace.

However, once the pizza’s gone and they’re a glass of wine or two in, Andrew realizes just how ruthless Steven and Adam are at this game.

For starters, they actually fight over characters.

“You must be kidding me, Adam Bianchi, Peach has been my character for all my goddamn life, you will let me have her!” Steven is indignant and Andrew wonders what the hell happened to his sweet boyfriend when they turned the Wii on.

“Screw you Steven, you weren’t fast enough, you can have Daisy for all I care.” Adam actually sticks his tongue out at Steven.

Steven selects Daisy, but huffs out a storm, acting supremely offended and sighing dramatically. Adam is incredibly smug, smirking like a bastard. Andrew sits between them, content with his drama-free Baby Luigi, incredulous at the sudden competitive streak of his boyfriends.

It turns out, Adam is, like, creepy good at Mario Kart. He easily takes on the first place from the get go, with Andrew not far behind and Steven trailing in 12th place, but laughing at them when they run into obstacles like he was an expert.

And then it happens. Steven gets a blue shell and launches it – Adam, in first place, is blasted off the road and falls off the cliff.

“Motherfucker you son of a bitch you can burn in hell how dare you fucking asshole eat shit i hate you – ” Adam keeps mumbling a string of expletives and insults as Andrew looks on – what is happening with his usually quiet and easy-going boyfriend?

Steven, on the other hand, is cackling, unfazed by the insults. He managed to get to 5th place, while Andrew is in 3rd, before Adam comes back from the dead with a vengeful flame in his eye. He gets a Super Star and passes everybody, knocking Steven off course with a smug chuckle.

“That’s it! You wanna go?” Steven throws his controller on the couch beside him and reach around Andrew to shove Adam, trying as hard as he can to distract him and get a raise out of him.

Adam only smirks and Super Stars his way to first place, but Steven blocks the TV from Andrew and he can’t see where he’s going.

Heaving a sigh, Andrew sets his controller down and catches Steven’s arms. He pins them at his sides gently with a fond exasperated smile.

“Maybe Mario Kart wasn’t such a great idea…”

“What do you mean, I’m winning!” Adam boasts.

Andrew takes the controller from Adam. “Didn’t you hear yourselves? What the hell was that?”

Steven turns bright red. “I might be… a little competitive?”

“A little?” Adam cackles. “You were so worked up!”

“I was? What about you?!”

“Guys, enough!” Andrew sighs. “I think it’s time to turn the game off, and kiss and make up.”

Steven gives a coy smile. Adam rolls his eyes but chuckles fondly.

“Yeah, okay,” he says, and his hands fist into Steven’s shirt to bring him close, all the way across Andrew.

Adam pauses right before the kiss. “But I get to go out with both of you, so I still win.”

Another prompt because why not: Adam's thought process behind his luscious close-ups of Andrew & Steven when they eat fancy food, because he just loves watching them eat and the first time he couldn't really help himself because it was kinda mesmerizing and now it became ~a thing and maybe he should look into it because how did he never realize that he had a crush on them both? (wow that's a long prompt sorry bout that)

The idea behind the way he shoots the expensive restaurants was really to make the imagery and sound seem as rich and luxurious as the food Steven and Andrew are eating. And it’s a good idea. It’s fun to switch up the way things are filmed for him and for the audience. 

Along the way, the expensive restaurants became Adam’s favorite meals to shoot. 

Bringing the camera up close to Andrew’s face as he tastes the food for the first time, the brightness of his eyes as the flavors burst in his mouth, making a smile grace his face. Andrew is the most happy when he’s well fed.

Sweeping the camera to capture Steven’s many joyful expressions that emanate from the man as he savors the food, as he reaches over to touch Andrew from how overwhelmed he is by the glorious flavors. 

And Adam get’s the honor to record it. 

It’s overwhelming. The pure pleasure they receive by eating feels wrong, and almost inappropriate some times to record. But usually it’s beautiful and intimate. The slow motion added is truly an extension of how he feels while recording it. Their unadulterated reactions letting a warmth pour over his heart. 

After the third time it happened, Adam accepted he was in love with both of his friends. Because of course he is.

It’s not strange to find sticky notes on their desks. Little things like:

Sometimes the notes will make no sense to anyone but themselves. References to things said or done in their excursions together that have bound them together in a unique manner.
