Fun story
Rereading some of posts, i realized that i didnt mention this. But during one of the performances of fiddler i was up in the light booth like you do. At my school we're pretty chill with alumnis (particularly tech). So if any tech or cool actors want to come see a production they know they can go through stage door and then sit in the light booth and watch the show. For instance, during crucible there was like 7 people in a tiny light board room chillin. So a similar thing was happening where it was me, the light board operator, 2 past tech and an actor and im the only one on headset. Now fiddler was was the week of endgame and we had briefly talked about it before the show. But during the beginning of the show near sabbath prayer or what ever, one of the asms says "What is tevye had the infinity gauntlet". And thats when this became the best performance. The entire show was now backround as we, over headset, discussed the secret plot of tevye and the infinity stones. Im not going to post the theory cause its wayyyy to long. But it is proudly written on a paper towel and hung on a wall with the outdated safety rules and is a national treasure.
Just spent too long building and painting, cant wait to go lie in my soft, clean bed. *thump* my bed is now covered in sawdust.
Get to learn how to shoot blanks tomorrow
My last summer
Whats up my dudes, its time for an irregular update on whats happening. So mamma mia wrapped up a couple weeks ago, where that wonderful picture that people seemed to like is from. This summer was different in that i actually built most of the set and helped paint and that was fun. I got to hang out with the set designer and painter, mary, whos super nice and has sagely wisdom that she gives me. I mostly got to do more because of my car which has been really nice not having to depend on my parents. Got a little nervous this summer before performances because the actors were not getting the scene changes at all. Luckily the props guy and his brother were alums and decided to do crew and it was a saving grace.
Schools coming up in a couple of weeks and that should be interesting. Since im not sure exactly what the president does for the drama club and im getting early release, im either gonna have a lot to do or the usual work load. But before that im going to new york for 24hrs because my family got tickets to hadestown! Im super excited, ive been listening to the concept album and the pre broadway album for almost 2 years and havent listened to the broadway one in case i did ever see it. But the art, set design, costumes and general aesthetic look so cool and im pumped.
The college search is still on. I live in southern ohio so ive checked out ball state, nku and ccm but its difficult to get a feel for it. Just gotta do more reseach, ugh.
Thats about it, my school is still doing newsies and my opinion has not changed, not thrilled
HERE COMES THE president?
*Note this is my second time typing this because the site went *bloop*, fuck you tumblr*
Theatre of my junior year has officially rapped. Fiddler was super fun and i think itll be one of my favorites. Its too bad that i have to give my script back. I dont know if its just me but, i like keeping my script as a memento and a way of looking at my progress. But i might get it photocopied so then i can keep one. But to bigger news, im president of my theatre troupe. From the nervous, only likable freshman to come to tech to president is something i call improvement. It was announced tonight at our banquet we host for inducting new people in and talking about seniors. We also give out awards, the first round are fun ones voted by a list the students make. This includes: biggest ham, biggest goof, rookie of the year, purple thespy(which tech strives for)&backstage critic. Now, personally i thought i was going to get backstage critic since its my expertise, but alas, no. Instead i won "best cast and crew" who is someone you enjoy working with and keeps it professional. I also won the best technician award for my involvement. Usually i dont like awards because i dont think theyre necessary. Heck, i turned a plaque for academics into a physics car project to my moms dismay. But these are differnet. I guess its because i applied myself and actually worked torwards something and its nice to get validation for things you care about. Also at this ceremony underclassmen write speeches for seniors. I took the 2 graduating techies that joined the same year as me. I did the speeches last year for others, these ones were definitely harder. Us 3 were all that were left from a good group and we thought that no one else would join, luckily people did but we are close and thats the point. Ive seen from the 4 speeches ive had to write that i choose the humor route. With others having the "things will never be the same", "as you move on to your next chapter" and what not, it doesnt fit for me. I love these guys but i know they dont want a soppy goodbye speech. So i fill it with inside jokes, stories, disses that the audience might just hear a discord of odd events, but they know the sincerity behind it.
So whats next? Well ive got my summer theatre gig where we'll be doing mamma mia. Which i have mixed feelings about. I love mamma mia as one of the first things that introduced me to musical thetre and i love a good abba. But im gonna try and not let over exposure kill it for me like in years past. Ive got to actually start looking at colleges and scholarships for stage management. And then a job. Probably not in that order but we'll see.
Sidenote: one of my showchoirs for the 19-20 year is doing the theme beetlejuice as their show and i need to ask the director if he plans on including the sandworm in it, how big of a part and the technicalities behind it. Cause i want to make a snake puppet. I literally have a folder on my phone of reference pictures and with the help of my brother have some measurements down. Fingers crossed on that one🤞
So, thats it. Junior year has been the most stressful theatrically and academically. But ive made some of my best memories that ill try to never forget. Ill miss it.
