Today is the International Day of Forests, Mar. 21.

This photo is from forest in Aklan, located in the Central Panay Mountain Range. This mountainous spine of Panay is home to extensive forests and endangered endemic species. Communities dependent on the forest also reside there.

Today we not only celebrate the forests of our planet, but also what they continue to give, and represent, for all life.

Time is running out to protect Alaska's Tongass National Forest, home to incredible animals like the Alexander Archipelago wolf. The U.S. Forest Service is preparing to make a decision, but first they need to understand just how much these landscapes mean to all of us. Tag a friend to spread the word and stand up for forests!

We need YOUR help to stand up for forests! The Boreal forest is crucial habitat for threatened and endangered species, such as the woodland caribou. It also plays a critical role in the fight against climate change. But unsustainable logging practices are destroying pieces of this forest every day. We need to put an end to this. Rite Aid, the third-largest drugstore in the country, is buying millions of pounds of paper from a company linked to destructive logging operations in endangered forests in the Boreal but the company doesn’t seem to care about being involved with this type of destruction. Each and every one of us must step up and tell Rite Aid to change their ways and adopt a comprehensive, forest-friendly paper policy! Add YOUR voice!

Will you stand up for forests? Forests play a critical role in the fight against climate change. We need them to store carbon that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, speeding up global warming. But destructive logging companies are degrading forests like Canada’s Boreal—the largest remaining ancient forest in North America—every single day. Did you know that Rite Aid, the drugstore chain, buys paper products that come from destructive logging in the Boreal forest?  Tell Rite Aid to make the “rite” choice for forests and adopt a sustainable paper policy!

Forests play a vital role in slowing climate change by absorbing large amounts of carbon and they're home to many threatened and endangered species. They also provide us with many resources. But we've already lost nearly 50% of the world's original forests. SHARE this post if you stand for forests!
