Every single household that I could see came out before dawn, lit a candle, and stood in their driveway observing a minute's silence for ANZAC Day this morning, and it made me choke up a little. The likelihood that anyone in my street would have - in normal circumstances - gone to an actual Dawn Service is low, but because no one in the country could go to a Dawn Service this year, every single household I could see came out at dawn and lit a candle.
Hearing the Last Post echoed up and down my street as all the families live streamed the service from their phones while the sun cracked over the horizon and magpies welcomed the dawn was so touching.
This has been by far the most special ANZAC Service I've ever taken part in.
Lest We Forget
