Bystanders enable injustice. On October 7, thousands watched or celebrated as Hamas paraded hostages. Many hostages were held in plain sight of civilians, doctors, and aid workers—yet no one intervened. Even the Red Cross legitimized Hamas’s abuses.

Beyond Gaza, silence has echoed worldwide. Friends, acquaintances, and even family members have ignored the atrocities, the hostages' suffering, and rising antisemitism. Whether out of bias, fear, or indifference, inaction makes them complicit.

Silence is a choice. Speaking up is a responsibility.

On August 4th, New York University (NYU) condemned the American Anthropological Association’s (AAA) discriminatory efforts to boycott Israeli academic institutions.

“It is regrettable that the AAA, a scholarly organization meant to promote the advancement of knowledge throughout the discipline, an organization that has reaffirmed its commitment to academic freedom, has taken a step seemingly at odds with those objectives.”
