City on the Edge of Forever, by Harlan Ellison
listen, it's canon
if you wanna know ANYTHING about ANYONE on the Enterprise NX-01 there's a total of three (3) people who always know absolutely everything and they are:
Chef - this mysterious entity in the kitchen knows absolutely everything (though it is unlikely that he shares this information if you're not the captain).
Charles "Trip" Tucker - this boy grew up in a teaspoon sized town (and no one can convince me otherwise) and he knows how to spot drama in 2 seconds flat because he's basically a gossipy Southern granny. would be all too happy to drink a sweet tea and give you the dish.
Travis Mayweather - similar to Trip, except Travis grew up in a spaceship. in close quarters like that there's no way anyone keeps a secret from anyone else. the main difference between him and Trip is that Travis doesn't spill all the good gossip, he just quietly goes about his day making slight alterations to compensate for whatever drama is happening on the ship. although if someone happens to ask, he might shrug and give a simplified version (he probably thinks everyone knows already).
