Cardfight!! Vanguard
I hear you play Link Joker and Pale Moon ^^ what’s your favourite piece of lore from either/both clans??
nice to meetcha!
Ayo, the first Vanguard post! It's nice to meet you as well!
As for lore, I'm a huge fan of Reverse, Messiah, Star-Vader, and Deletors. I just love Link Joker's dynamic after all.
Pale Moon, it's Silver Thorns and Harri. Golden beast tamer and the bunny deck I made in V have my own made up lore so.
I also main Angel Feather!
I made an Illustration of "Star-Vader, Garnet Star Dragon"! He is legit one of my most favourite Legion Cards in the whole game
I am just really happy that Vivzie-pop and Star-vader managed to work things out tbh (and obvs I’m glad the whole mess in general seems sorted too), and plus there’s two cutie woofs now I mean c’mon
Link Joker Blaster Joker
4 x Star-vader, Blaster Joker
4 x Star-vader, Garnet Star Dragon
4 x Companion Star Star-vader, Photon
4 x Furious Claw Star-vader, Niobium
3 x Silence Star-vader, Dilaton
4 x Barrier Star-vader, Promethium
4 x Demon Claw Star-vader, Lanthanum
4 x Star-vader, Volt Line
2 x Miniscule Star-vader, Mayoron
12 x criticals
4 x heals
1 x Star-vader, Bravefang
And that's how and why I built my Blaster Joker deck.
Link Joker, Star-vaders, Deletors, and none of the above
We'll start with Binary Star Twin Gunner, which isn't really a horrible card. It's just that all it does is let you lock something in the front and something in the back, and...that's it. In theory, you can do it twice, but in practice, because it requires you to soul blast 2, that's not happening. Not unless you make heavy use of its other ability to pull other rearguards into the soul to power up, which I don't think is worth it, because you are essentially trading a card on the field for more power that's only going to matter if it changes how they guard. If they were going to take it or perfect it anyway, who cares? Besides, now we have Star-vader, Garnet Star Dragon which is way better. You don't need to be at four damage, no counterblast, no soul blast, just Legion. Sure, Garnet Star mandates the use of its Legion Mate, but it also enables the use of the 12k attacker.
Next on the list is Innocent Blade, Heartless. This one is pretty meh, but the reason it stands out is because it was one of the very few ways to inflict a lock before you were at four damage in the pre-Legion era. Still, I don't think it could've really stood out all that much, especially with a base power of 10k. And, of course, not being a Star-vader, so you can't use the archetype attackers. Potentially a small loss, but it's there.
Knight of Entropy is one of those "on ride, CB2 to do the clan's gimmick, also gets +5k when you're at five damage" guys. So he can hang out with Great Silver Wolf, Garmore and Thunder Break Dragon in the "maybe useful once upon a time but certainly not now" club.
Ah, Schwarzschild Dragon, I had such high hopes for you. The fact that there's no benefit to riding directly from the grade 2 of the chain to the 3 meant that I could pair it with a break ride, and get a full field lock, and also swing for titanic power with a bonus critical! And even if I missed the break ride, I just needed to persona blast for a triangle lock. But here's the problem: you can do all of this once. If you get perfect guarded, then you've spent the entire game being vanilla to build up to this moment, which ends in a wet fart. And given how long it takes for you to get to the point where you can do this, your opponent has plenty of time to get a perfect guard. And once that happens, you get one turn of reprieve because they basically can only attack with their unboosted vanguard, and then it's back to being ground into the dirt because your vanilla deck can't stand up to a deck that actually does a thing.
So there you go, there's no grade 3 that's really all that worth building a deck around. That one Deletor I mentioned is Juxtapose Deletor, Zaele. One idea which I had, but never followed through on, is pairing it up with Star-vader, Infinite Zero Dragon and using Star-vader, Dust Tail Unicorn as your starter. The idea would be riding Infinite Zero Dragon, and when it's time to drop the bomb, you break ride Zaele over it. Lock one of the front row units, and the Vanguard's booster. Then Legion and Delete the vanguard. Then either use Dust Tail or call a Juxtapose Deletor, Gaele to lock the other front row rearguard. Boom, their next turn basically does not count, because they can make one attack which they cannot boost, and has zero power, so hitting you is impossible. Unless they ride a fresh grade 3, in which case oh no, you can just drop 15k shield and their turn is basically nullified. This is one of those things that's a pain to make fire, and it's easy to get out from under even if you do, but oh man. When you do, it is so funny. Anyway, we've already determined that there isn't a whole lot of point to using a non-Star-vader G3. Well, what about in other grades? Maybe there's something worth breaking archetype for in there? Well, the answer is once again, "not really." Even if you have something that's really picky about Star-vaders, there's not much in the way of things outside archetype to really go for. As before, I will be including Deletors that are relevant. The guys that do stuff when there's a Deleted vanguard won't matter here.
Bloating Deletor, Gio is a vanilla 10k. Star-vaders already have two, so this is completely redundant. Don't use it.
Gamma Burst, Fenrir is the Link Joker version of the guy that swings for 11k if you have something with Limit Break on the field. Since Star-vaders can just use Unrivaled Star-vader, Radon, and their other G2s are probably in use for things that actually have effects, why bother with this guy? I guess he's okay if you're using one of the non-Star-Vader G3s, though.
Gravity Collapse Dragon is part of the ride chain leading up to Scwarzschild Dragon. Don't bother unless you're using him, and I already explained why you shouldn't.
Greedy Deletor, Jail is an unflipper. Not horrid, I guess, but I usually don't have room for this kind of thing, because my G2s are either going for more locking or support from locking.
Le Maul is an 8k that can swing for 12k if you pay. You probably have something else that powers up without requiring you to eat up all your counterblast. Trash.
Negligible Hydra is a damage exploder. Trash.
Paradise Elk is the Link Joker "on hit, CB2 to draw" card. Not horrible, but it's a generic clone, so probably skippable in favor of something that actually works with the whole "lock" thing Link Jokers do.
Singularity Sniper is actually a card with no archetype in Link Joker that's not terrible! But it's an 8k that has to hit, and there has to be a locked card, so that really hurts its utility.
Rotting Deletor, Izret was already covered in the Deletor post, but this guy is only better than a vanilla 10k in very limited circumstances.
Wow, that's a pretty underwhelming list, isn't it? So you can go outside archetype on G2s, but there's not a lot of point. Well, maybe the G1s fare better, right? Well, again, the answer is "no, not really." Once again, I'll be including Deletors that are relevant outside a Deletor deck.
Asteroid Belt Lady Gunner is Link Joker's version of the "boost an attack that hits, discard and draw" thing. Not a terrible card, but y'know, there's a reason you don't see a ton of those in decks these days.
Gravity Ball Dragon is a ride chain bit, see the other bits for my thoughts.
Hollow Twin Blades, Binary Star is a vanilla 8k. Not very exciting. Or useful, these days.
Imaginary Orthos is another damage exploder. And thus trash. Why use this piece of low-powered situational junk when you can just use Eclipse Star-vader, Charcoal and not have to worry about the limit break restriction at all?
Resenting Deletor, Vuera is one of the ones covered in the Deletor post. Bottom line, not worth it.
Looting Deletor, Gunec is the "on call, SB2 to draw" guy for Link Joker. This one is a maybe, it depends on if you think you have the G1 space for it, and if you can get away with having a crappy booster like this.
Opener of Dark Gates lets you cycle a card if your opponent has few enough rearguards. Meh.
Paradox Nail Fenrir is one of those things that can boost a unit with LB4 for 9k if you pay. The extra power makes a difference behind four units, with a conditional fifth, and even then it depends on where they are. These things are generally trash anyway, because most units with LB4 abilities swing for 11k at best, and either they swing for 13k as a vanguard (and a vanilla 8k that you aren't paying for turn after turn is fine) or just swing for 11k (and a 9k booster kicks them up to 20k, which is not enough to make another stage against the 11k vanguards you're most likely to see).
Poisonous Deletor, Edda is just another vanilla 8k.
Refusing Deletor, Evil is the only one where I am not going to just say "this is junk," because it is a perfect guard. However, note the wording: this one does not specify that you must discard a Link Joker to protect a Link Joker. You can throw out anything to protect anything. This difference is usually not going to be relevant, but this is a game changer for Star-vader, "Omega" Glendios, because now you can throw out a Reverse unit to save yourself, and Glendios can break archetype safely, because it doesn't care about Star-vaders.
Okay, so unless you're running a Glendios deck, most of the G1s aren't useful, and even in Glendios you're just trading one perfect guard for another. So how about starters? Same story of them being mostly crap!
Black Ring Chain, Pleiades and Natatorial Deletor, Nie are both grade 3 searchers, and thus trash, because you are counterblasting 1 and giving up a card to maybe, maybe get something useful. Why do that when there's so many actually good starters to choose from? Which I will get to in a minute.
Micro-hole Dracokid is the start of the ride chain I said you shouldn't use.
Origin Fist, Big Bang is one of those things that you can put back into the soul for power. I guess this can be okay if you are completely stuck on ideas and can't get one of the non-crap starters, but obviously, very low priority.
White Night Fenrir can be charged away to draw a card if it boosts an attack that hits. And because it's only 4k, there may be trouble doing that. And then you have to replace it anyway. Why not use a starter that has non-crap power in the first place?
So, not a whole lot to pick from in the G0 department, either. And just to get it covered, here's the list of starters I would consider:
Running a Deletor deck? Acquire Deletor, Igor without question. The unflip is too important to miss.
How about Glendios? You use Star-vader, Worldline Dragon, because being able to pitch Reverses for potentially useful things is very important, and you can get Reverses back later via other shenanigans in the deck.
Running a Legion deck? Then either Star-vader, Robin Knight for more locking or Star-vader, Bravefang for extended locking.
None of the above apply? Dust Tail Unicorn. Especially because if you aren't running a Deletor deck, a Glendios deck, or a Legion deck, then you're probably pairing something up with a break ride, because very few of the Link Joker G3s are worth a damn before four damage, so you may as well use the break ride and get something out of it.
There are other starters you can use, but they are basically "well crap, I don't have any of the good starters, may as well do something" type starters. Plus there's the triggers, but you can run twelve Star-vader criticals, so and the only triggers that aren't Star-vaders are Deletors, so who cares? So that's why if you build a Link Joker deck, you don't have to worry too much about the Star-vader archetype. It is highly unlikely you will not be using it.

Today's cards are the Legion of "Star-vader, Blaster Joker" and "Companion Star Star-vader, Photon" from the general release version of Neon Messiah! Be careful, as with new general rules being enforced, starting today (September 29th, 2014), the abilities of these cards are also affected. What changed starting today is basically a change in the Seek Mate ability that grants you 20000 and so such power. The new rule is that a Unit that has already performed Legion cannot perform Legion again. So when Blaster Joker uses his ability to retreat the Legionmate, this means that Legion cannot be reused to regain your Legion 20000 and so such. And, with this, this means Units like "Seeker, Sing Saber Dragon" who could use [Legion 20000] after Legioning a different way in the past, can no longer do so under the new rules. A Unit that has never been in Legion can use Legion 20000. This means it's okay for you to Seek the Mate after Re-Riding! Also, there's a change in the Clan Fight Rules starting today, so be super careful A shift in the winds now makes it that Royal Paladins can include up to 4 copies of Blaster Dark, which will affect decks such as Majesty Lord Blaster ones.
