"thank you again for doing this for me," you whisper, your eyes still focused on the curry as though you were speaking directly to it instead. the golden brown of it all, layered with potatoes, carrots, and copious helpings of chicken are appealing enough on their own to your sensibilities, but the aroma pushes you forward to your own mouth watering.

but the food isn't for you, it's for your crew that will come and pick you up in about an hour. you're but a guest on the thousand sunny, and sanji has been kind enough to impart some of his cooking expertise to you, with your goal of offsetting the burden of your own hardworking cooks for at least this evening.

"no big deal. anything to help out a lady!" sanji comes by with a tasting spoon to check finally, then offers you another one to do the same.

"are you satisfied with the taste?"

homey, warm, with a hint of spice and a subtle sweetness from the carrots you brought with you from your own ship's garden, courtesy of your horticulturalist.

"what did you think?" you ask, tentatively, deciding that he has a muc more discerning palate than you do.

but sanji grins and deflects. "that's not for me to decide, you know your crew best."

you purse your lips for a moment.

"if it tastes like trash, please just tell me," you reply dramatically, but he shakes his head.

"there's no food that tastes like trash first of all if made with love."

"false."

sanji raises an eyebrow, before taking his cigarette into his fingers and tapping the end upright onto the counter.

"true. and i'll argue every time," he says.

you look at him for a moment, but you realize him, like every straw hat, is often deathly serious about whatever they believe in. smiling to yourself, you yield, and you get back to the work of cleaning the kitchen and preparing the food for transport.

sanji helps you distribute the completed curry and steamed rice into small ceramic containers, then places a scribbled note on the smaller one.

"what's this?" you ask, eyeing it as he takes the bigger container and follows you out of the kitchen.

"dessert recipe, if you want. goes great with curry."

you don't notice, not yet, that his snail number is on the back, not for you, but for the many many lovely crewmembers of yours.

the remainder of the straw hats watch you emerge, their captain grinning at you on sight before he frowns as he remembers that you're on your way off the ship.

"do you have to go?"

instead of reminding him like every time you step foot on the thousand sunny that you don't live there and have your own crew (and happen to be captain this week), you tell him you'll be back soon. as he takes the food from both you and sanji to accompany you across the gangplank connecting yours and your crew's ship, where the crewmates that were free await, you remember one of sanji's comments from earlier.

"i'll admit it was wrong of me to assume you wanted my help to find out what luffy's favorite meals were."

you'd decided to take his comment as well-meaning.

"maybe i'll ask one day, but today i have my own crew to cherish first."

Starbound/Space Age AU! Spokoen Ariya the Avian!

A little more of the Starbound races based side characters, this one working at the Gamma Nekkar Stadium - an area of quite a bit of activities and entertainment upon the oceans of Gamma Nekkar and its Spires built into the sea! Spokoen is an oldie... Hadn't touched their character in ages. Technically never seen before at this point.

Spokoen is an Avian who has long since left behind their home, integrating into a multicultural city on a completely different star system to live. The Crow ended up on the bad side of the more extreme side of their culture, a sect of Stargazers upon where he used to be from, and found themselves running from them. Some time after that they found out they were deteriorating and thus sought out someone, anyone, willing to integrate some technology into themselves to save themselves from possible death. This might have been done by someone known as Koibuchi... This became his rebirth into a kind of a technophiliac, and became a birth of the Other Them. A cavity was dug into his torso and head, which allowed an implantation of a complex computer system to co-run the body if need be. Now inside this body lives Spokoen Ariya, the bird, and Spokoen Ariya the complexly evolving imitation of their memories and personality. Their time together allows them to switch "occupancy" at will, and often they share thoughts like separate conversations together. They have rarely slept after they got older and readjusted to the life of being together... And its likely the computer will continue their existence afterwards, whenever the last dregs of the original pass on one way or another. Currently though, during the time of the image and working for Gamma Nekkar? Both are alive and well.

Spokoen Ariya talks quite a lot to themselves, and have further tech-implantations added into themselves to make life lived in the lap of technology be that much more easy and convenient. The duo in one mind make them extremely impervious to external attacks, though they are not completely invulnerable... Perhaps there should be a more faithful drawing of all their useful little things and an actual proper look to their workplace some day, among their true personality. Oh man... does make me think of all the others... too many characters... That'll be a somewhat of a summary for some points of their character. Big and leggy blackbird.
