StarDrive 2 turn-based strategy getting first DLC
Portland based developer Zero Sum Games has announced that StarDrive 2 for Linux , Mac and Windows PC will receive its first DLC, named “Sector Zero”, which will be launching later this year. The DLC will bolster the epic turn-based 4x space strategy title with the following additional content and features:
Sectors mechanic. An entirely new way to visualize and conquer the galaxy. The concept of sectors reinvigorates the 4x’s of StarDrive 2. In the early-game exploration phase, Sectors provide short-term goals as the targets of your exploration. As you enter a sector for the first time, its secrets are revealed. You might find one of Sector Zero's new quest lines or events. You may find subspace anomalies, the wreckage from ancient battles, and many more new and exciting terrain features.
Deep Space Construction mechanics. These allow you to claim sectors for your empire and to exploit the resources found there. Build a Star Fortress at the edge of a wormhole to control the passage, or a mining base in a deep space field of precious metals. Every space station can be upgraded with multiple improvements to secure your territory.
Expanded Galaxy size, allowing galaxies up to 4 times larger than those available in the base StarDrive 2 game.
Dozens of new quests and events to continue to bring the lore of the StarDrive universe to life.
New technologies to research.
New Racial traits to further customize your experience.
Two new Victory Conditions: the scientific victory, and a story-based victory.
Also to coincide with the half year anniversary of the launch of StarDrive 2, publisher Iceberg Interactive will be offering a 50% discount on the title for a few more hours. Stardrive 2 Review - Oh my Stars and Garters
Explore the stars, meet new civilizations and investigate abnormalities. Stardrive 2 allows you to do all this in an epic 4x Strategy game by Zero Sum Games and Iceberg Interactive.
The first Stardrive was a great success and Stardrive 2 is following in it’s foot steps. 4X Strategy games can become monotonous very quickly especially as most do not have a story line or structure to follow. In its own rights 4x Strategy games is about freedom and building your empire your own way but there is something different from Stardrive 2. In the beginning it felt like any other 4x Strategy but the more I played and when I actually started grasping the way this game goes it kept drawing me in.
You can choose between a vast amount of alien races and of course humans as well, they all have their different traits which some are positive and some negative but you can also customize your chosen race anyway you like choosing traits as you want but it has to balance out at the end. The game also looks great and you can easily get lost in the beautiful graphics of the solar system.
Apart from exploring and expanding your reign you can also head to the shipyard and build your own ship layouts. You can easily spend hours here designing that perfect dreadnought to add to your arsenal of might starships. Researching a bit more advanced technology will be advisable to get that perfect load out. Choosing what to research has never been more important as some choices will make you skip others and those technologies can then only be obtained by gaining them from other races by means of conquer or trade.
It is also nice to have some events and mysteries happen during a game like finding a space pirate merchant selling junk (or maybe something worthwhile) to you for crazy prices or finding and old abandoned ship and then choosing to board it with troops then going into a mission where you have to rid the ship from some type of insect infestation and then gaining some nice info or technology from the ship.
Stardrive 2 is fun! 4x Strategy is not for everyone but it can be a lot of fun and I urge gamers to at least try out this genre and give it a good few hours before giving up on it. Hopefully Zero Sum Games will build on this series and bring us even more great games in the future.

Lol, that dialog. Was debating on buying but you just made up my mind, good job.
Dude, I think you’d really like it!
It doesn’t exactly break new ground, being more like a modern version of Master of Orion 2. But that’s okay because MoO2 was amazing. Also it’s kind of still being worked on, in the sense that it’s a full game now but more features are being added to it, like non-military victory conditions.
I don’t know why I’m listing the negatives first. It’s a fun game. Alien designs are pretty sweet!
