eyes  are  screwed  shut  ,  she  cannot  help  but  flinch  at  lauren’s  words  .  she  feels  lost  ,  she  has  been  lost  since  she  was  eighteen  .  luke  was  her  rock  .  she  blinks  for  seconds  ,  trying  to  suppress  the  images  of  her  twin  when  he  died  in  her  arms  .  

          ❝  it’s  nothing  !  ❞          she  lies  through  gritted  teeth  ,  refusing  to  look  at  lauren  as  she  does  .  how  do  you  explain  such  a  loss  ?          ❝  ....  i  don’t  want  to  talk  about  it  .  ❞          she  sighs  ,  praying  the  brunette  will  let  it  slide  .

PROUD OF HER! god i just adore how much passion you have for all your muses? and the range you have in your writing? like how do you go from writing unhinged miss ainsley whitley to like actual fucking sweetheart arizona robbins just like that? we’ll never fucking know! 

i love how easy it is to bounce ideas off of you and how you’re genuinely one of the kindest people i’ve had the pleasure of knowing. like i’ve said before, i’ve literally followed probably every single one of your blogs since like literally early 2019... which apparently is a lot? but idk man, just been a zanza fan LMAO honestly your taste in tv? in media? literally impeccable. i’m so glad i met you and started watching both new amsterdam and prodigal son bc i sure am having a fucking blast

god i just love writing with you so much. like the way how your prose is both so easy to understand and follow and how creative, and thoughtful it is. i love how each of your muse (WHICH IS A FUCKING LOT BTW) has a distinct voice. you know how fucking hard that is? you know what kind of talent that is? if you don’t well - iTS A fUCKING TALENT and you should 1000% be proud of that, wear it like a badge and literally tell every writer you meet

                          hands  on  his  hip  keep  his  shoulders  tense  ,  even  more  than  they  already  are  .  his  knee  has  been  acting  up  more  than  usual  and  it  only  serves  as  a  reminder  of  what  and  who  he  has  lost  .  still  though  ,  its  a  form  of  punishment  for  being  able  to  save  those  he  lost  ,  but  he  wonders  if  this  slump  will  ever  pass.    her  words  despite  ,    being  well  intentioned  ,  strike  a  nerve  that  has  him  clenching  his  jaw  to  the  point  he  feels  a  deep  ache  .  ❝    that’s  what  they  tell  me  ,  but  sometimes  it  feels  like  i’m  always  going  to  be  stuck  here  as  i  am  .  and  i’m  not  sure  what  to  do  with  myself  .  ❞

“Some people deserve deliberate cruelty.” Marisa insisted firmly. “You have no idea of who he is, what he’s capable of, what he’s done.”

So it wasn’t the most common nor reasonable thing to have a man taken hostage, tied up, not being fed, and tortured for information. What Lauren didn’t understand was that this was a man who caused so much misery and suffering, not just for her, but for others too. 

“His name is Hugh MacPhail. Where I’m from, he is a person with power and authority that he has abused. And now he and his organization are after my child. I’m doing what’s necessary. Is it illegal, absolutely, but I’m desperate. I’ve brought him here because here is the only place where he has no backup to call, where no one will find him, where he has nowhere to run if he escapes. I promise, this will make sense if I just... explain it. I’ll explain everything.”

“I don’t want a sorry, I want a promise that you will never go through my things again.” Marisa spoke coldly, holding back a growl to her tone. “My privacy is important to me, how would you feel if I raided your bedroom, or looked through your phone? If you’re concerned about something, ask me. But you not liking my answer is still not permission to go looking for answers of your own in my office.”

Her anger was partially because this was exactly how she lost her daughter. Lyra was snooping around in her office, she saw things she didn’t like, and she ended up running away. Perhaps Marisa should’ve been more honest with her in the first place, and it was something she would consider doing now in this relationship, but in the moment, this action was still a provoking thing for Marisa with her past.

"Like what?" Blair said, the smile on her face pulling wider. "Like I know you have fun in you? Can't let anyone know that you have the ability to be something more than the ever capable serious doctor." To be fair, Blair wasn't fully certain of Lauren's ability to be spontaneous and allow herself to have a good time. But she should allow that. Blair looked at Lauren and knew the woman needed a break of some kind, tightly wound and holding so many pressures in her hands.

“Come on. I promise it won’t kill you come take a night off with me. I’ll make sure you have a good time. One night.” Blair hoped she could turn one night into something more but they had to start somewhere and she couldn’t deny she was drawn in by Lauren. And not simply because she was gorgeous. She held out her hand and smirked, “What do you got to lose?”

A CENTURY OF TRAGEDIES shuffle through Diana’s features in a millisecond. It manifests as an ache in her gut, in the way she’d react after being struck. She gasps for a breath. Her fingers clench into a fist that allows her nails to dig into the skin of her palms. The world lists like it’s stuck in the midst of a hurricane. She’s bleeding. Little trickles of blood seeping from the open sores etched into her hands. She doesn’t notice, not when she’s swirling from images of carnage, and terror is clawing at her stomach. 

Steve comes to her in moments like these. Moments where the earth is twirling rapidly off its axis. Moments where she cannot find her center, even when she digs and digs for it. He smiles, that sweet quirk of his lips that makes his whole handsome face appear lopsided. It’s okay. You’re okay. He repeats the mantra. She’d almost believe it, if she weren’t lost in the blues of his eyes. She closes hers. Opens them. 

Lauren is speaking to her. Diana listens to each syllable carefully until a comprehensive sentence forms, slowly reintegrating back into the land of the living. Steve disappears in the blink of an eye. She finds Lauren’s face instead, to anchor her. 

❛ Of course not. I’m afraid I was just lost in the past for a moment. ❜ She smiles, but she doesn’t display her teeth. They feel too big, like chunks, in her mouth. Her hand lolls and she rests her forehead on Lauren’s, smears of sweat making them stick together. ❛ It happens to us old people, you know. ❜​
