honestly if I were to shove her into the Pitt it would be after greys s3 and every time she's paged into the ED she's just:
addie's biggest fear is being alone (it's been iterated so many times). she literally asks the question 'if i went missing would anyone notice?' and say things like 'if i die, nobody would care'. and y'all expect me to believe that she went out on the road, in effectively a RV across the country without the family she fought tooth and nail for? nah. realistically she'd have a moral conflict about wanting to leave / stop after like 6 months or the likes.
having so much distance between them has been damn difficult. lauren's never done well with being alone, & of course she has their daughter, but it's not like she can just confide all her hopes, fears, secrets, & deepest pains to a child. she may not be the best parent in the world, but she knows at least that she's better than jeanie had ever been, & that includes not burdening her daughter with anything that a parent shouldn't put on their kid. lauren refuses to be that kind of a mother, even on her worst day.

the words register a while after they should've, but lauren doesn't care about that. she surges forward & throws her arms around her wife. ❝ oh, thank god. thank god, i want you to come home so badly. i miss you so much, ❞
it is an immediate response : the arms that wrap around the familiar frame of the woman she loves. it's the way how she easily melts into lauren, how natural it is for her to bury her face in the crown of brunette locks.
❝ y-yeah... me too. ❞ addison chokes on the emotions that are thick in her throat. it's relief, it's catharsis. it's joy.
she once watched love dissolve before her eyes, disappear like seafoam from the blinding light of ambition. a power couple. they used to call him & her — everything was perfect on the outside; everything was dreamlike, even enviable. but as her career soared, his too, took off — they've flown too far apart from one another until two people who once loved each other became something akin to strangers.
and that still haunts her. it always, always will.
but she isn't the same person as she once was. history doesn't have to repeat itself.

t laugh pours out from her at the mention of such mundane domesticities — the very domesticities that she missed out on so much over the past year or more. years ago she would've fought tooth and nail to have a family like this — she's mourned, she's cried, and she's swallowed the resentment that she once attributed to karma.
every night the distance illustrated the yearning that ached in her chest. the country wide trek in a vehicle was tough. addison never liked life on the road — hell, she loathed the very trailer derek once had her inhabit & for the longest time she's felt oathbound to this pilgrimage.
❝ i don't want to be away that long either. ❞ the lightness in her voice drops. addison regards lauren with a wry smile forming across her lips. ❝ i missed the hell out of the two of you. ❞
