I am currently reading the Iliad, for no reason other than I am a pretentious bitch, and the introduction of this translation has referred to Patroclus as Achilles’ “close companion” no less than FOUR times and I am going to EAT SOMEONE

sdfghjk and THATS kind of the thing abt the original iliad! bc it never makes it........................Truly™ explicit whether achilles and patroclus were a couple. theres no kissing, theres no sex (between the two of them at least), they never describe each other in terms that are Explicitly Romantic, so a lot of translators/fans/interpreters/whatever kind of take the lack of confirmation either way to mean that achilles&patroclus Were Straight Dudes For Sure

but the thing abt that is, in terms of the iliad itself.. it kind of doesnt matter? [grumbles] idk i think its a better story if theyre lovers, but it honestly doesnt actually matter if achilles&patroclus are lovers or friends, bc either way patroclus is *quite literally* the only thing that achilles cares about & thats why he gets killed.

in the original greek achilles calls patroclus a combination of ἑταῖρος and φίλος (in varying conjugations depending on context) when describing his feelings for him-- the former word meaning ‘companion’ and the latter meaning essentially ‘beloved’...... and φίλος holds all of the vagueness that ‘beloved’ has. it can be romantic. it could be brotherly. its... vague. and those two words are usually slapped together in such a way to mean ‘most beloved companion’. this can be interpreted as a romantic or platonic expression.

(theres a lot more discussion to be had abt the way achilles and patroclus act, the way the iliad was interpreted by the ancient greeks, the long-reaching queer history of lovers being misinterpreted as ‘like brothers/sisters’ but we’re Not Going To Get Into That, tldr: achilles and patroclus are never Explicitly romantically involved in the original text, but the subtext is VERY arguable)

BUT no matter how you interpret achilles’ love for patroclus , it is HEAVILY EXPLICIT in the text that patroclus is the person achilles loves the most.

the whole thing with achilles is that hes 1.) a bitch and 2.) prideful. theres a bunch of plot nonsense that happens essentially bc achilles was too much of a dick to put up with it when his pride was bruised, and said bruised-pride-plot-nonsense is basically the reason patroclus dies in the first place, & its the events that follow his death (IE, achilles going on a fuckin rampage and having to be stopped) that actually forces achilles to step back and re-assess his pride. (sort of. how much is a Man going to admit he was wrong and grow from being a shitty person in a greek myth anyways)

but anyways the fact that patroclus is really the only thing achilles TRULY cares abt is the reason he gets killed: to narratively force achilles to stop being such a prideful little bitch. whether that love is romantic love or Extremely Intense (like holy shit) platonic love, it doesnt matter in regards to the plot and achilles’ ‘development’. however i think we all agree it makes a more interesting story if theyre lovers

Okay Followers and Fellow Shippers, LISTEN UP.

I got a lot of ideas I need to get off my chest but lets start simple, WARNING  the following discusses smut.

Lately I've been craving a story where everyone thinks and assumes Tony is the Top in the relationship & for the life of me I couldn't figure out a good pairing for it. But then I read something were Bruce is shorter than Tony and I FUCKING got it!

Tony and Bruce start dating. And everyone thinks Tony is topping. He acts all macho, takes Bruce on dates, hangs all over him and Bruce is quiet and submissive around everyone. Except when he's in the bedroom

Hello~ Science Boyfriends 5+1 5 times some realized that Tony was the catcher in his and Bruce's relationship. And the 1 time someone knew.

5. Clint (always a good victim) stops by the work shop, you know for the usual. Needs arrows, bored and needs to bug someone- whatever reason and sees something he never expected. Bruce has Tony bent over a work bench in the middle of the lab and is dominating the fuck out of him. Clint’s reaction may vary - runs off screaming, watches for a little cause damn that’s hot, or slowly backs away and acts like he never saw anything.

4. Natasha (cause why not) barges into their bedroom because honestly she knows she can get away with it and she’s also a little shit when she wants to be and sees Tony's arms tied behind his back as he rides Bruce. Of course Bruce, the cocky bastard he is in bed is laying back with his hands behind his head watching Tony wreck himself on top of him. Natasha takes a picture before leaving as quietly as she arrived (which is not at all)

3. Steve is unfortunate enough to wander into the gym to see Bruce fucking Tony into the matts. Let’s just say Bruce really likes Tony in Yoga pants.

2. Thor figured it out during movie night one week when he feels vibrations on the couch he's sharing with Bruce and Tony. He’s really not as dumb as everyone thinks, also Bruce's smirk gives it away.

1. Pepper finds out when Tony comes limping into a meeting, late. Of course she uses this new information to tease Tony endlessly. (He takes it like a champ and Bruce is thick - shut up Pep.)

+1. Rhodey comes over and sees Tony sitting on a donut pillow. Specifically the pillow he bought Tony when he started dating Bruce. 

Seriously someone talk to me about this or hit me up with Bottom Tony pairings and Headcanons you have for them. I wanna talk.

Avengers: Infinity War Headcannon

As much as Bruce brought up Tony in Thor: Ragnarok, I honestly can’t wait for them to meet up again in the next Avengers. Bruce has always been like a second Rhodes in Tony’s life, so he’s not going to be all rainbows and butterflies to hear about Tony’s choices, however he’s been really good about seeing both sides to things (something him and Nat have in common).

I don’t think he’ll shun or abandon Tony after being debriefed on the last two years. Thor’s helped Bruce begin the process of overcoming his fear of losing control. This is a characteristic both Tony and he share. Bruce’s fear almost cost the refugee Asgardians their lives to Fluffy (what was Hela’s pet’s name lol). Tony’s fear almost cost the whole Earth their lives (he thought he could control future outcomes, when we know you can’t prevent everything).

By Bruce being less afraid to change into the Hulk - knowing the other guy has become more willful after two years in control - he can explain to Tony that being out of control does not always lead to horrible outcomes (okay, this explanation sucks, in retrospect, but we saw in Thor: Ragnarok how it helped lol) Maybe Tony will be more receptive to Bruce, since he knows the other scientist understands how he feels.
