It was normally very quiet in this forest. It was a dense place--a location humans normally tried to avoid traveling through. There were more reasons than just one, for avoiding it. It was hard to navigate. There were strange creatures in the forest. Spirits and things that weren’t simply mundane wild animals.
There was a beast, supposedly guarding the area.
It was the same beast that currently glided through the area, keeping low and careful as it sought out what unfamiliar scent and energy she could feel so close by her home. She no longer let such unfamiliar feelings go. It was hard to, when it so often meant something was coming specifically for her.
What she found instead was a small group of creatures, just little spirits that behaved more like mischievous children than anything. They crowded around something on the ground, something that looked...human. Huffing, the light-colored beast swooped down, a strong beat of her wings scattering the little creatures away from the body. With a thud, the dragon landed over the body and growled low, frightening the troublesome things away.
Only then, did she step away from the mound of intruder below her, dipping her head down to investigate. This was a young human. Not that young--younger than the older males those humans so often sent after her in fear of what she could do if she resided here too long. There was some kind of knapsack nearby. Unfortunate traveler, perhaps? It surprised her that anyone would be passing through here, with what so many nearby places said about it. Carefully, there was a small rumble in her throat as she picked the body up with her teeth, slow as to not tear the clothing the stranger wore, and lowering her onto its back. Wings slowly folded, before she ambled over and picked the bag up as well.
With that, the dragon was on her way back to her home, strange human in tow.
