Steve looked at Natasha, knowing that sleeping in a tub would definitely be uncomfortable. Sharing a bed with her was the best option, wouldn’t be the first time he had to share a bed. Though this was a bit different, he didn’t know Natasha as well and it wasn’t because Steve was going to freeze to death if they didn’t. “Alright,” Steve said as he sat down.

“Good. Was that so bad? It’s not like something will happen, you know. Except you want something to happen.” Said Natasha teasingly and grinned at him amused. “Anyway, you should get ready to sleep, tomorrow’s gonna be a tough day.”

Long Way Down || stars-spangled-soldier

It wasn't terribly late at night- but it was however late enough that the soldier had committed to staying in for the evening. He hadn't been there too long and it was a pretty inconspicuous place. Located in the area of town that was close enough to the busier parts to get foot traffic but not nice enough that many people ever bothered to go there. It had a high turnover rate. Most people only stayed there long enough to find a more permanent location. Bucky however had decided on it because it was pretty low-profile... He liked it that way.

Bucky sat down at his table, a glass of water in hand, and took a small sip before setting it aside- far from anything that it could potentially spill onto and ruin. His backpack sat against the leg of the table... His phone and money were stuffed into one of the front pockets, a spare set of clothes folded neatly and tucked inside the main one- pretty much everything he needed to survive was in that backpack. He carried with him wherever he went. His handgun and extra magazine were usually kept in there too- but whenever he was in for the night he would keep it with him at all times. He thumped his knee nervously and began looking through his notes- propping his head up with a hand as he hunched over the table... going over everything again  once more... drilling it into his head.

The list continued on- information about who he was... or at least the man he once was. He read it over again at the end of each day. He wasn't sure what would happen but, sometimes he remembered things- something more. Everything he wasn't sure about he wrote down too- questions and things he didn't understand or wasn't sure where they fell in place. His head was a mess and he didn't know if he could trust it or not- but still, he had to try and remember right?

Dark hair fell into his face, as he stared down at the notebook, repeating a line or two when he didn't fully understand what it meant. There were various papers stuffed into it from notes and files he'd picked up along the way... anything that could help him figure out who he was... he'd take it.

He could hear something- the floorboards creaking just outside of his door- and in an instant he was at his feet... hand snatching his gun away just as he flipped the table to it's side. He moved fluidly, senses acute, and in another second he'd snatched he was hidden behind it- his front door blasting to splinters. He screwed his eyes shut for a moment, then quickly spun around and returned fire.

There was never a lot of one on one time with Mr.Rogers, at most she’s seen him through the swindles her father coordinated time after time, the occasional hi and bye. Aside from common knowledge and the fact he was like a super powered Ken doll she hadn’t been prompted to seek him out, however that was before she actually needed someone who’s approval could genuinely impact her reinstatement. With a folder in hand there were a few places she was told she could find the captain. One carried a heavier bet than the later. The entire walk she completed her professional run-down, these days her behavior in the workplace skyrocketed into that of a religious choir boy. It was how it had to be to get anyone on her side. There’s nothing easy about glossing over ‘psychological distress’ as a cause of leaf. No help either when SHIELD blatantly plastered the words at any given. There was always the raise of brow, the 'why’ and 'how’, getting scanned like some specimen as if 'what could have possibly fucked her up?’. Almost everything was printed and stowed in the Manila folder from her mothers enlistment & death to police records the young stark expunged a while back. Nothing got passed them. At least not anymore.

Her feet carried little weight grazing the ground one step at a time. The speech coordinating within lingered her lips, anxiety had no reason to hover if Lana made her place, but he had every reason to decline her request. Stopping at the frame of the door the girl politely knocked at the structure and spoke up. “ Mr. Rogers? ” she peered in slightly, brown curls blocking her view. “ If I could have a moment of your time? ”

13. Your muse is being beat up by mine, something your muse did must of been the last straw.

He knew him. The other said it, and he had found information to confirm that. But his programming... It was strong. Too strong. Which was why the Soldier Bucky had stayed away, something Steve had not understood. He chased and chased, and he would not quit. He had a death wish, obviously.

And the only way Bucky could save him was by beating the shit out of him; making him see Bucky for what he really was. A monster.

There's no objection, however much he feels the instinct to do so, claws flexing minutely before hefinally settles in place. Steve isn't like HYDRA, this isn't control, it was most likely meant to be thoughtful.

“Do you remember this?”

Lights. Laughter. Screaming. So many sounds and visuals, all attempting to be processed at once. And that question, completely ridiculous. Of course he knew of this place, it was one of the major landmarks of New York. “Coney Island. A very big attraction for New York City, as is Navy Pier in Chicago.” That hadn’t been what Steve had meant though, had it? Remembering this place was... Harder. Fuzzy.

Messy.

It had changed so much in the last seventy odd years. New attractions added, some removed entirely, or remodeled. Nothing staying completely the same, ever. Even the boardwalk, he suspected, would be different, eroded in different places, new wood in others. Nothing stayed the same. Could never be what it once was. Time had warped it.

"Are you sure you're okay?" (stars-spangled-soldier)

The truthful answer was no, no I’m not, you nearly got shot and I’ve got brain matter on my face, we’re too young for this war. “I’m fine, Steve, you just worry too much,” is what Bucky actually said, laughing, despite the shadows lingering at the edges of his eyes, the despair curling down his mouth. He couldn’t help but draw comparisons, knowing Steve was his Achilles, and himself Patroclus, and he could almost feel death looming. Most of the boys could, all the time, the bomb always a moment away, the bullet hitting their hearts, lungs, skulls. They could all die in an instant and Bucky was beginning to panic over the thought. Today, Steve had nearly been shot, had nearly been the one gone, and if Bucky hadn’t been there he very well could have died. It was hard to remember that they were alive sometimes. “Just tired now, after all the fighting today. Think there’ll be any decent food?”
