Your boyfriend has been acting strange lately.
It started after he went for a run one Sunday morning. Because a debriefing had lasted until almost one in the morning, he had slept in and didn’t leave for his daily jog until almost 10 am.
Any other day, he comes inside, places his shoes by the door, and strips off his smedium shirt so you can ogle him before he goes into the shower. This time, he ran past you and into the bathroom, locking the door behind him.
You chalked it up to him being off because of his late start.
The next Saturday, instead of leaving out at 6 a.m. like he always does, he hung around the house. He was fidgety and you swear he’s giddy, his blue eyes anxiously watching the clock. You tried to question him but he distracted you with kisses until you forgot your own name.
He kept it up until ten when he suddenly “had to go”, leaving you perturbed. When he returned almost two hours later, he rushed past you once again and into the shower.
And he did the same thing on Sunday. After a month of this, you couldn’t stand it anymore. You had to know.
So you did the only logical thing one can do in this situation.
You told Sam and Bucky.
And you instantly regretted your decision when Bucky and Sam showed up in their uniforms, insisting you change into something all black to blend in.
When you asked why you couldn’t wear your normal clothes since it was daytime, Bucky placed his finger on your lips, saying “don’t question my methods.”
“Oh, no,” you groaned when Sam brought Redwing out. “Guys, this is unnecessary, you know what I’m calling it off.”
Sam and Bucky exchanged glances. You narrowed your eyes at them when they both smiled deviously. “You’re going to do this with or without me, aren’t you?”
You walked behind them, rolling your eyes as they crept down the sidewalk., Sam monitoring Redwing’s progress, “almost there, he’s up ahead, hold on, hold on, is that-” he bursts into laughter.
You looked at Bucky before grabbing the screen from Sam. “What the hell?” you muttered.
All three of you shared the same moment of clarity and understanding as the scene unfolded before you, without a word you knew what was going to happen.
Breaking into a run, you skid around the corner.
Steven Grant Rogers. Captain America. Avenger. Your boyfriend. The man who can rip logs in half and fights crime on a global scale is holding ten different leashes, various breeds of dogs surrounding him as he hands them off one by one to the elderly women fawning over him.
“So, this is what you do on weekends, Steven? Dog walking for all the sweet old ladies in the neighborhood?” you call out, giggling as he ducks his head.
Steve sheepishly walks over to you after the last woman takes her dog, “it happened by accident,” he explains, “I was going to tell you eventually.”
When he had left the first morning, he ran into the neighborhood walking group, they managed to talk him into walking their dogs, cleaning their gutters and he’s also fixing a roof tomorrow.
By the time he’s finished listing off all the things he’s going to be helping, tears are pouring down your face from laughing so hard, “you’re such a sucker,” you wheeze, “and I love you for it, they got you good.”
Steve hoists you over his shoulder, heading back home, telling you that he had been acting weird because he had to hide the fur that stuck to him after each walk.
“Hey how did you find me anyway?” he asks.
Oh. Yikes. So much regret.
"Well, what had happened was…” you trail off, cringing when Bucky and Sam pop out of the bushes.
“We got it all on tape.”
“Wait until Tony gets a hold of this.”
