here’s a fun fact for everyone while I procrastinate not only the work I do in my regular 8-5 job but also with any of the writing I should be doing—i was almost abby!

back in 2016 when I was just graduating with an English degree (holla) I knew my part time college job wasn’t going to be getting me anywhere

and even though I was already technically a published author (technically a published ~poet~ bc im a fancy ho) i knew I would never make money off of writing anything

so instead I applied as a 911 / state patrol dispatcher and actually got pretty far! 

i passed the interviews, tests, background, all that, and got to do a few days of ridealongs with dispatchers (one of them let me read a BOLO from a neighboring state out on the air and that was very fucking cool)

the dispatch setups that they had on the show were actually pretty similar to what my state patrol office had (except we would all face the center instead of have our backs to the center). we all had our little headsets and we would press space to talk to officers in the field—we also had a direct line to most state vehicles, any transit agencies operating in the state, even the governors office (which can you even imagine hitting the wrong button and getting the fucking governor pfffffft)

and honestly I was super there for the job but between the pay cut it would have been (as opposed to taking my part time gig full time) and the fact that the starting shift was a floating shift (so I wouldn’t know when I was working just that I was working 40 hrs a week), I tapped out of that real quick

anyway I just want to leave you all with this wonderful snip from a convo with @buckleydiazs​ (who honestly is braver than any us marine because she has to deal with my unfiltered thoughts 24/7 so none of y'all have to)—to any hot firefighters out there I promise I may not be a dispatcher but I will definitely treat u right and not leave you to go to Europe and come back with a fiancé because I am classy ok so if anyone wants to confess their love for me now is the time
