State of the Art Blog

So, I have kind of disappeared in places and haven’t been posting as much.  The reason for this is I haven’t really been feeling like myself lately. My day job has been draining my energy and I haven’t wanted to do much of anything lately. I’m long overdue for a vacation.

Speaking of, I’m going on one in a couple of days. I’ll have a couple weeks away from my day job and this should help me out.  

So, what does that mean for my art and stuff? Well, I don’t have a definitive answer yet. I’m thinking once I’ve had a week to myself, I’ll start to feel better and start to draw more. I can’t say if I’ll actually post anything. My main concern is going to be taking care of myself.

In short, if I don’t post anything for a while, know that I’m on vacation and will be back later this month.

State of the Art Blog

It's been a while since I've posted. I kinda went into a bit of a hiatus. I wasn't happy with my art and I needed some changes in my personal life (basically just needed to find a different place to work). I'm less stressed and have more free time now! That free time has made it easier for me to make art. I've also been taking some art classes.

Hopefully I'll get back into a regular posting schedule. My first post will be shortly after this one. After that, I'm thinking of every other Saturday.

State of the Art Blog

Its been a while, so thought I’d update on what I’ve been doing.

I’ve recently been learning how to use a dip pen. How’s that been going?

Behold! A cube!

And here’s almost an entire page full of lines and stuff. You can see that I get bored with doing the line exercises and just start doodling.

Here I was trying to fill in a random shape I made with pencil. And, then, I dropped a big glob of ink on the page and just rolled with it

So, it’s been going okay. I’m liking it and I’m actually reading art books. So, not only am I learning the dip pen, but learning ways to be better at art.

For those curious about what I’m reading, these are the two books I picked up from the library:

Pen and Ink Drawing: A Simple Guide by Alphonso Dunn

In other news, I’m still slowly working on an original comic. I’ve gone through and completely reworked characters. I’ve come up with a lot of lore and history. I made more characters. I’ve got a ton of notes about this, I just need to sit down, go through everything, and piece it all together. I don’t want to say a lot of details about this comic since it’s still in the writing process and I don’t want to spoil anything.

What is it about? It is a fantasy about change, both of oneself and of the world. It follows a group of thieves: Joe, the one-armed, amber-eyed something (whatever they are, they’re not human); Boris, the muscle of the group, cursed with having a bull skull for a head; and Cynthia, a newbie picked up by Joe for her potential in chaotic magic. These three will not only encounter and antagonize the upper class, but a mysterious cult, and possibly the gods themselves!

When will I actually release a finished comic chapter or something? I can’t say. I was thinking about doing a standalone comic. I don’t know if I’ll actually do one or not. If people are interested, then, sure I’ll do it.

State of the Art Blog

It’s a new year! Time to write updates and such. I’m not making any massive changes, just in the process of making decisions. I also need some feedback on things.

First off, I am working on an original comic now. It is in the very early stages. I'm still developing characters and figuring out good, easy to draw designs. Joe is probably the only character that is nearly done. I have many other characters to figure out. So, it will be a while until I actually start it. 

In the meantime, would you all be interested if I posted about it? Should I make a separate blog for it? I won’t be posting anything plot-related, just character designs and maybe little things about them and the world they inhabit. 

Second, I am horrible at communication and interaction. This past year, I’ve noticed that I have a bad habit of disappearing and possibly coming off as not wanting to be bothered. I do want to be bothered! I like seeing messages and asks! If you want to say something to me or ask me something, please do! As long as you’re not sending me a ton of messages a day or being rude, I really don’t mind. It may take me a while to respond due to work and my unreasonable anxiety of messaging people, but I’ll eventually get back to you. (Don’t worry about that anxiety. Sometimes, I just can’t determine the right words to use - Is this too formal? Too friendly? How do I exchange the words with hoo-mans? It’s more funny than stressful.)

That’s about it. I’d plug my Ko-fi (ko-fi.com/chrismlink), but I’m planning on making a post detailing what how many coffees gets and some examples. I’m not in need of extra cash now, but my student loan payment keeps increasing, so that may change sometime.

State of the Art Blog

So, been a while since I’ve done one of these. Just wanted to give some updates to stuff. 

First up, my deltarune fan comic. Yeah, looks like this is going to turn into a weekly thing for a while. I’m not making a separate blog for this because I’m not sure if I’ll do more after I’ve completed all I’ve written. So, far it looks like it has three or four parts left. It may grow because when I write these, I only write the dialogue. Action parts are thought up when I sketch it out, making it longer than originally planned (oopsies). So, if you’ve been liking this comic, look for updates on Mondays around 2 pm EST (if I give a deadline I’ll actually work to get it done by then).    

Next, original content stuff. I’m gonna be honest, some of my original stuff I’ve not been particularly happy with. I’ve tried to work on some of it, but I’ve found no joy out of it. Most of it has become a chore rather than fun, so some of it might be scraped or just put to the side to come back to later. I’m talking about an original comic and that one rotoscope animation I’ve mentioned a long time ago. I apologize if you were looking forward to these, but can’t work on something that does nothing for me.

State of the Art Blog . . . Again

Just want to give another update.  I’ve got a new job! Yay! Unfortunately, it has made me extremely busy and I haven’t had much time to sit and create stuff.  I’ve got some ideas, as well as unfinished projects that I want to do and complete.  They are going to take me much longer than anticipated, but bare with me.

It’s the final two weeks of the semester, so posts are going to be few like they have been.  I did have a little animation project I was working on, but haven’t had time for it.  Not sure if it is going to be completed or not.  I’ll have to look at it when I’m in a less hectic state.
