,,Established in 1724 during the reign of Nicolae Mavrocordat, the Stavropoleos Monastery stands as a preeminent example of the Brâncovenesc style, synthesizing Byzantine, Ottoman, and Western Baroque architectural elements. Originally founded by Archimandrite Ioanichie Stratonikeas as a metochion (ecclesiastical embassy) and inn, the complex is celebrated for its intricate stone filigree, ornate polylobed arches, and exceptionally preserved interior frescoes.
The monastery serves as a premier center for the preservation of Romanian cultural heritage, housing a vast collection of rare theological volumes and the largest assembly of Byzantine music manuscripts in the country. Today, the monastery remains an active liturgical site, recognized globally for its dedication to the revival of traditional Neo-Byzantine chant and its enduring role as a tranquil sanctuary within Bucharest’s historic urban core."
