Here is a list of scam/warning posts that I have either created or reblogged from other users, just so they are all in one place and to bring awareness.
I recently got scammed on discord recently (05/01/2021) and I'm sorry I haven't posted this sooner. I been trying to make my way around warning folks, if you get a discord message by Oogiesgirl207#0434 that isn't me anymore that is now a scam bot unfriend it and remove it from any servers your are in with it. Please I don't want folks to get screwed over like it did.
I was scammed by the means of a person I didn't chat with in a while message me they asked for my attention and then proceeded to tell me that they accidentally reported me on steam the report was a market fraud they said.
They proceed to send me to another discord user by the name Solo#8808 (though at this point he might have change his numbers) he acted as a steam manager by the name Matthew Ann and hacked into my steam, locking it, making it look like a official thing then saying theres a insurance need to with verifying my account by sending him crypto currency.
I foolishly gave him up to 2000$ before my bank limit hit and stop any more money going though. At one point my gut feeling occurred and tried reported steam itself but he manage to talk me outta of it. Afterward he said there was a 2nd way to verify my account by giving him my discord and I being the fool that I am did so it was then my common sense kicked in and the realization of what happened hit me and now Im here trying to clean up my mess I gotten myself into.
I got my steam back but the money is still gone and my discord is lost due to TOS rules saying since I handed over the info even though I was scammed its still falls onto me and they can't do anything about it.
At the moment I'm going be going to my credit union to switch accounts to be safe I may already disabled my card but I want to make sure to be extra safe.
So this week I got scammed by a person that went by Ohai on discord who blocked my steam account and got me to spend thousands to get it back. Luckily my friends informed me it was a scam before I spent every last penny. Unfortunately, the bank couldn't do anything and I never did get my account back. But I did manage to screenshot everything with the scammer's permission no less.
Here are the screenshots which I put into my google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Tt1tiXC8Sd58x6htRPirCOxZXhig9O0awx_0d11PKN8/edit?usp=sharing
The block-out parts are the address the user had me send the money to and my name. If you would like to know ohia full discord user dm me.
Hey, just a heads up for anyone who uses Steam: A couple of my friends just got hit with this scam. If someone on your friends list- or even someone you don’t actually know- suddenly contacts you and asks you not to be mad at them because they accidentally reported you and your account’s going to be banned/suspended, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!!
I just got messaged by one of my friends’ accounts on Steam and it tried to get me with this scam. As someone who works in IT, I’m used to detecting phishing scams and these were the warning signs: The way it talked didn’t sound anything like him, the replies were ready too quickly (likely copied and pasted), it wasn’t reacting correctly to anything I said, and, when I told him to text me if this was real, it just gave the same replies as before. I texted my friend to ask about it and he confirmed that his account was hacked earlier this morning because he got the same message from a hacked-friend too, and another one of our friends already fell for it from his account.
From what my friends who got hacked are telling me, the person tries to sound genuinely apologetic for it, tells you that there’s a link to use to talk it over with someone to get the suspension lifted, and even takes you to a sort of verification thing where it’ll have your email and the last few digits of your credit card.
Be cautious and remember a few simple rules for ANY website:
Don’t use someone else’s link to talk to support, always go through the official one on the system’s own website yourself.
Admins/Support staff will never need your verification info like your password.
Admins/Support staff will also NEVER ask you to log out and move the conversation over to another platform such as Discord.
If something feels wrong, it usually IS wrong- listen to your gut the moment things seem strange or out of place.
If the message comes from someone you know IRL, text and ask them if it’s really them.
If any of you do fall prey to this scam, make sure you go to the ACTUAL Steam support site and submit a service ticket ASAP! Spread the word and stay safe!
There is no such thing as steam-admin nor item check, it is only use to scam and baiting to lure log-in info to hack your steam account.
This scam method is rising more up recently, as more steam users are deceived and got their steam account hi-jacked.
scammers will hi-jack any account and trade/steal all the items that they can quick sell on steam-market.
(tf2 unusual, strange/stat-trak, tf2/csgo/any other games skins, etc.) (there’s still the chance the scammer will trade away all your items that are tradeable.)
But this time the scammer will use the hi-jacked account to chat with everyone on the friend-list (not a bot, but the scammer texting) and the chat can start with:
It can be this or something similar. ^
and the scammer will try to get you in
contacting with a steam admin (there is no steam-admin, only steam moderator or Valve Employee, but also they can be use to impersonate by scammers)
When you add the steam-admin, then the scammers will use scare tactics to try to get you to trade
your items to be checked (item check on steam is not a thing.) and it you don’t trade then steam-admin(scammer) will threaten with banning your account.
uhm yeah, Valve definitely just has a “ban account” buttons lying around, just waiting for a misclick.
Sometimes later the scammer will send a link to a fake website or fake steam website to try and get your log-in info.
so also, IMPORTANT Don’t click any links in Steam chat. Scammers can send links with special characters that look exactly like real Steam-related websites. If a website automatic download a png fill, then the .png can be hidden as .scr(file with malware that can hijack pc or steam account)
like: fake steam main profile with redirect to PHISHING LINK url
This scam can happen to anyone who thinks it’s look legit or low experience traders or people with low experience with Steam.

also PLEASE DO NOT TRADE WITH ANYONE WHO CLAIMS THAT THEY ARE STEAM STAFF AND THAT THEY WANT TO CHECK YOUR ITEMS FOR DUPLICATES VIA TRADING AND THAT THEY WILL BAN OR DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT YOU IF YOU DO NOT COOPERATE.
also also, another steam scamming to know:
1) Someone asks you to visit a phishing site,
or you search on Google and click on a phishing ad.
2) You click "Sign in with Steam."
3) A new frame/popup/tab opens, and it does not say "steamcommunity.com" in the navigation bar. No "Valve Corp [US]" SSL indicator in the navigation bar. This replicated page that's logging anything you enter in login/password fields.
4) You enter login credentials, it asks for Steam mobile guard code. You enter the code, but you are not sending this data to Steamcommunity.com.
5) Using (4), the attacker can log into your Steam account until the Mobile guard code expires (~60 seconds). They can now access/modify/perform actions on your behalf on Steam (except confirm trades).
6) You get trade requests from anyone in which you send items? The trade now gets cancelled by the attacker, and they immediately send you another trade offer with the same profile name, trade offer message, and list of items.
7) You think (6) is legitimate since you were expecting a trade offer from that entity, you confirm the trade.
8) You have just sent your items to the attacker. The scam is complete and will repeat as long as your Steam profile is accessible to the attacker.
also, Valve Employees will almost never contact you through the Steam app, opting for email instead, and also display a badge on their profiles.
same with Steam Moderator they do also display a badge on their profiles.
PS. also: There is a service of the Online Fraud Prevention Foundation name steamrep.com (SteamRep is hosted by the non-profit Online Fraud Prevention Foundation and is not affiliated with Valve/Steam in any way.)
(also recommender rep.tf which is almost the same thing.)

r/tf2 "Pending Ban" scam
https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/9ns1hj/pending_ban_scam/
Can someone tell me if this was a scam (99% sure it was just want to see if I was right):
A couple days ago someone requested to be my friend on steam. I accepted and then tonight they messaged me. They first asked if I play Team Fortress 2 (which I don't).
They then asked if I bought an item from that game that they were selling. I said no and they asked to see my purchase history. They said I bought an item that they were selling but they didn't receive any payment. And it was an item they were selling for over $100
I rarely make purchases on steam and my last purchase was in July. I also don't keep my card info saved on the account for security reasons (had an incident months ago where someone did use my account to add funds in my wallet. Luckily steam refunded the money So since then I don't save it).
After telling them repeatedly it wasn't me they said they already reported my account and that my account was pending being banned. They showed a screenshot of a message from Steam support saying that my account was marked as fraudulent and that I also broke the law. They then asked me to reach out to support to clarify things or else my account will get banned.
I got suspicious and did some research and I was 99% sure it was a scam so I told them that it sounded like a scam and blocked them.
And for added protection I changed my password and added the 2 factor authorization
