There was hardly any space left between them. Bucky’s hair brushed the tip of his nose. It was citrus and sweat and like a gut punch of memory. “We could see if I’m any better now,” Steve said. “I’ve had a little more practice since then.”

I am spoiled for choice. I can’t decide between ASMR Steve or Nearness of You (!!!!!! Sequel!!!)

ASMR Steve snippet:

Tony clapped his hands together in front of his chest like he was praying, but the light in his eyes was decidedly unholy. "Please tell me this is a cam boy you've fallen madly in love and/or lust with. It would make my entire year, please, you owe me this."

"I don't owe you shit," Bucky retorted.

"Come on, every other Avenger has had at least one torrid sex scandal since coming aboard, even Bruce got caught with his shirt off in Betty Ross’s lab, it's one of our most reliable team bonding experiences. But you!" Tony stabbed an accusing finger in his direction. A part of Bucky's brain automatically calculated the angle of force that would be required to grab his finger and use it to pin Tony against the nearest wall, but even he recognized that would be an overreaction to the current threat level. "You're like a monk, and you're making all the rest of us look bad. Make me the happiest man on earth and admit this is some kind of tawdry sex thing."

And Nearness of You chapter 3 (the one that’s done but has an emotional cliffhanger so I’m holding it back until there’s an actual resolution) snippet:

When Bucky wakes up, Steve isn't there.

There's an instant of fear, automatic and inescapable, before Bucky can tamp it down. Sometimes he wakes up without Steve. Sometimes Steve is in the kitchen, or the shower, or on a run with Sam Wilson. If Steve isn't in the blanket fort, it doesn't mean that he's in danger. It doesn't mean Bucky's alone.

Bucky rolls off the pile of cushions he slept on. He crawls through the entrance and into Steve’s bedroom. Steve and Bucky had moved the blankets and pillows and sheets into Steve’s room a few days after Sam Wilson visited for the first time. Bucky likes sleeping in Steve’s room. He likes it better when he wakes up with Steve next to him, face creased with blanket lines and nose whistling just a little, but even when Steve isn’t there the room smells like home and safety.

Steve used to snore, Bucky remembers; rattling snores when he was sick and congested, wheezing snores when his asthma was acting up. Bucky had spent long hours listening to Steve breathe, getting his worrying done in the dead of the night when Steve wouldn’t see or smell him doing it.
