Oooh, please tell us more about the FMA AU! Who’s Ed and Al?
Ed and Al and all the other characters we’ve brought in are themselves, just as if they had always lived in the Voltron timeline! A lot of their story is built before the Voltron canon, as we know it, even starts. This also means that it’s a modern AU of FMA, wherein Trisha is still alive and both Elrics have all their appropriate body parts in tact.
Ed and Al are their usual prodigy selves and grew up in their southeastern farming town, reading books about advanced physics, robotics and medicine. After graduating high school, Ed enlisted in the military and got moved very quickly into positions where he could take his skills right to the field. This is where he met Team Mustang, who were already involved with Voltron’s canon WWIII.
Most of Mustang’s team is some flavor of special ops - Hawkeye and Havoc for their sniper skills, Maes for his involvement in information reconnaissance, Kimblee for explosives and munitions, etc.
It probably helps to know that our otp in FMA is a rarepair of Kimblee/Ed, so what we’ve built up focuses around their interactions during the war. Such as Ed and Zolf sent on tours during the war and working on military tech and projects together.
As Ed became more heavily involved with missions and the war, he did his absolute best to keep Al from officially enlisting because he’s seen some shit, and he doesn’t want his baby brother involved in some of the things he’s had to do. (Totally out of character for him, I know >:3) Al doesn’t like Ed feeling like he has to protect him (also out of character), but Ed pulled the mom card.
During one such mission, Zolf got caught up in a situation that left him seriously injured and flown back home while Ed finished out the mission. After that tour ended, Zolf retired to continue with his physical therapy, but Ed went on to complete more work for the military as WWIII was coming to an end.
As of S7, Zolf and Ed have both been involved in contract work for the Garrison while Team Mustang is still enlisted. When the Holts made their worldwide broadcast, they went all in to help with the war efforts against the Galra. This includes the rest of the Elric family, who weren’t about to let a family like the Holts go through this alone.
There’s a lot of additional backstory that involves Shiro, but there’s the gist of where Ed, Al and Team Mustang are involved.
