32 with takihara stella and kid (er?) tasuku
Prompt 32 “This is, by far, the dumbest thing you’ve ever done.”
“This is, by far, the dumbest thing you’ve ever done.” The small bluenette held the bridge of his nose. “How do you plan a camping trip but forget food?”
“Well,” Stella started but Tasuku raised his hand to silence. He looked at her.
“It was a last minute decision wasn’t it?”
“Yes,” Takihara answered after a moment of silence. “But don’t worry, I know lots about edible plants out here.”
“And,” Stella chimed in, “once we get to the river if we find a sharp stick I can catch us some fish.”
“Alright,” Tasuku sighed. They began walking. “So how long will we be camping for?”
Stella and Takihara exchanged a look. Stella turned to Tasuku.
“How many outfits did you pack?”
Tasuku shook his head a sighed.
“I change my mind. The dumbest thing you’ve ever done is go camping without any plans. At least you brought a cooler I guess.”
Stella smiled. He seemed upset now but hopefully he’ll start having fun soon. Plus they did remember the important thing, she adjusted the strap of the small cooler she was wearing as they headed off.
Later that night they sat in front of a campfire. For dinner they had open fire roasted mushroom and fish. Tasuku was barely eating. Takihara spoke up first.
“Something wrong Tasuku? Do you not like fish or mushrooms? I’m sorry I should’ve asked before making it.”
“No that’s not it.” Tasuku put a piece of mushroom in his mouth. He chewed and swallowed before sighing. “What’s your angle? You just randomly drug me out to go camping... You were really disorganized but you didn’t seem slightly upset. In fact, you two have trying to make me happy all day. I just… I don’t understand.”
Stella and Takihara shared a look. Stella pleaded with her eyes. Takihara nodded. Stella smiled then looked at Tasuku. He tilted his head, looking at her with big innocent eyes.
“Okay, so I didn’t want to spoil you before dinner but,” Stella opened up the cooler and pulled out the cake she and Takihara bought for Tasuku. She held it out to him.
“Happy birthday!” Stella and Takihara smiled at Tasuku. He took the container from Stella and stared down at it.
“We were going to take you to that restaurant down the street from the office,” Takihara rubbed the back of his neck. “But this morning you made it very clear you weren’t interested in going… We thought maybe you’d like camping better.”
“We rushed out because we wanted you celebrate on your birthday… Sorry it wasn’t better organized.” Stella adjusted her glasses. She noticed a droplet land on the container. Was he…? Stella reached out to him. “Tasuku?”
Putting the cake to the side, he got up and pulled them into a hug. He was shaking slightly. Stella and Takihara hugged him back. Tasuku snifled.
Stella smiled. She was glad he could enjoy his birthday.
