I’m really interested on what was the process like of Capitano’s darling learning schneznayan?

I presume that in mondstadt they speak some form of Germanic language, and as someone who learnt Russian through English textbooks I really wonder what were the struggles like for Darling?

Was she already previously acquainted with the schneznayan script and language? Perhaps the power of the Fatui was strong enough for standard Schenznayan classes to be obligatory in various schools in Teyvat? Did she had some sort of private lessons once she arrived in Schneznaya?

I always found that speaking with native speakers, though nerve wracking, was always a more productive way of learning the underlying meanings of certain words that existed in Russian but that did not exist in any language that I knew, I wonder if Capitano would have used some sort of ‘speaking classes to better your schneznayan as a Harbinger wife’ just to get her to talk with him more in the first stages of the relationship?

I don’t know honestly, I just can’t stop thinking of Capitano delicately correcting Darling’s pronunciation by showing what muscles she must exert pressure on in order to create sounds that exits in Schneznayan but not in Mondstatian like damn, me next please😭

(This brain rot came from a dream in which Capitano’s darling met Teucer for some reason and the little guy was like « I’ll teach you cool schneznayan slang and you help me with my mondstatian homework » and I couldn’t stop thinking of it ever since I woke up ~-~)

Damsel is self-taught. She learned how to read Snezhnayan with textbooks and children’s books in Mondstadt Library, but she’s only at beginner/ intermediate level. As for speech……

She can’t speak/ understand the oral language at all. So she has been mispronouncing the words in her head this whole time……Neither does she know the modern slang and figures of speech, so she can only communicate with Snezhnayans via pen and paper.

Capitano definitely helps her!! He will gently teach her the proper pronunciation and other basics. It means more conversations, quality time, and chances to hear his darling’s voice. Once or twice, he slips in a love declaration which Damsel has no way of translating <3

When Capitano is away on missions, Damsel turns to her new guard for private lessons All hail Sergeant Naiad the jack of all trades This is to limit her social interaction and give her another pastime while Capitano is away. She once welcomed him home with a soft, perfect “I missed you.”

That being said, Capitano is in no rush to improve his darling’s proficiency. After all, the language barrier is another source of isolation between Damsel and the Snezhnayan public. And at her current level, she’ll have to continue relying on Capitano to read her Snezhnayan books.

BONUS:: Childe is surprised by Damsel and Teucer’s interaction. So the Captain’s darling is nicer to children, though it’s more of tough love and mild tolerance. He will remem—oh sh*t Capitano is here!!

My parents are treating us fine-ish, we’ve always had an eh relationship, so it’s about the same. My mom has a “hate the sin and not the sinner mentality” so she doesn’t hate queer people, but she wants them to get “fixed” ig? My dad, from what I gather, doesn’t really care (?) he and my mom were talking about and he said “I don’t want to judge people on their choices, or what they’re doing to their bodies” or something like that.

I grew up going to church ig, but as far as I remember no one said, don’t kiss the opposite gender, and my parents never like, explicitly talked about it. I think I found out that gay (lesbians specifically) people were like, a thing from the owl house. That’s also where I found about nonbinary people, that took a little googling since I was confused why they were being referred to as they. I thought it was because they were like so powerful, that they had to be referred to as like, multiple people. and I also remember being confused about men being attracted to men, bc apparently women liking women made more sense, bc women. idk. Ig I don’t have like that much internalized homophobia (?) bc I didn’t know gay people were even a thing until I was like 10. And trans/genderfluid/nonbinary people I learned about early on too, so the owl house introduced me to gay stuff ig? And in Percy Jackson there’s a few gay characters and I read that when I was 11/12 and Alex Fierro from Magnus Chase is a genderfluid icon. My parents don’t like, talk to us about that stuff, I didn’t get “the talk” from them either, I found out from a hinny fanfiction on wattpad, idk,

and also, I’m on tumblr, the gay website, so, there’s that too.

oh and also idk if my brother told my parents about his roommate being his trans friend (I’ll call her a, since referring to her like that is weird) so idk how he’ll handle that. Once he leaves for college he probably won’t be back much, since we have a pretty eh relationship with them, so we’ll see how that goes.

Yeah, I think it’s good that your parents aren’t OUTRIGHT hateful, but it’s important to recognize that your mom’s mentality can be just as hurtful and detrimental. Religious bias against LGBTQIA+ people can cause such trauma, you know? A a lot of times quiet hate is more dangerous than obvious hate because it’s harder to prove and change.

Im glad you recognize that there can be other ideals besides hers. ❤️

hello cas, stellar anon. Ok so I’ve been waiting weeks for my parents to ask my brother, and my dad did it two days ago, he was whispering, but like he sucks at it, so I was listening basically my dad just asked if the friend was trying to be a girl, and if she asked the friend group to use she/her pronouns, and when it happened. My brother answered all of them, and then my dad asked if she was using a new name, my brother said yeah, she goes by x now, and then my dad asked how he felt about it, and he said idc. My dad then said, ok, you can talk to us abt this stuff and that was it. then my mom came downstairs and my dad relayed the conversation to her after my brother left the room.

I thought that was it, but my brother had his last band concert yesterday, and when me and my sister came home today she asked us if we knew x (she knew my brothers friend new name but she didn’t use it) was trying to become a girl. I said no, bc that seemed like the right thing to do (?) and then she was like , last night at the concert I looked at x’s (still deadnaming her) dad and I prayed, and I pray for our neighbors down the street who’s now y instead of x. These kids are looking for the answers in the wrong places, not just gender identity but drugs and alcohol, and she started crying and said, when I was younger, I acted like a boy, I smelled like one and looked like one, and these days people would’ve assumed I was trans, but I was a girl. (he’s apart of my brother’s friend group and my mom asked about him but my brother just said they weren’t close but they had the same friends) he wore a skirt to the concert, which my mom noticed during the award ceremony ig. He was wearing a white shirt with a suit and tie and jacket and he had like an ankle length skirt with a slit. He also had really long curly hair, like down to his waist, my mom mentioned something about him too but I don’t remember. I mean boys can wear skirts, but they could also be nonbinary or genderfluid or trans idk the right terms. But my brother said that his trans friend was part of a group of trans people and he was the token cis guy, so I assumed j was part of that group, since my brother said they only had the same friends. Idk.

I heard my mom praying this morning about that and about my cousin, who’s a lesbian, and she been married since 2020 and like in her current relationship for 8 years (I think). The issue is my mom isn’t that bad, when my cousin came out my aunt (her mom) said at like a church thing that her daughter being a lesbian was the worst thing that ever happened to her, while she was there. My mom’s side of the family is all refugees for the Vietnam war, and that aunt was like middle school age during that. My mom was invited to the cousin’s reception she didn’t go bc covid. Idk. long, sorry.

Thanks for the info cas, I’m stellar anon btw (I definitely didn’t have a childhood best friend named that and her moving away definitely didn’t give me abandonment issues weird coincidence). I was asking about the whole assigned gender at birth bc people room with the same gender, so my brother would room with guy, and him saying, he might room with one of his trans wasn’t super clear to me, and I wanted to be sure, but I do understand that people don’t want to be asked assigned gender at birth, since it’s kind of private information. I’m working on educating myself on all this since I only recently got allowed to me on the internet, and I want to be as respectful as possible. tysm!

Yeah, I definitely can see where you're confused. I think it definitely depends on school policy as to how trans people are allowed to approach roommates. I would guess that some less-liberal schools would make them room with people who share their assigned gender at birth, while more liberal schools would allow them to pick the dorm that feels most genuine for them. I would hope that any college who has a trans student wouldn't force them into the first option, but it wouldn't surprise me, unfortunately. Either way, it sounds like your brother is very accepting and will hopefully make the room a safe space for his roommate.
