When Xander was a toddler, he had an imaginary friend like many other children. His friend was named Keos, and he kept him company through everything. Keos was always there with Xander when he went to the doctor, when he was scared of the monster under the bed, one his first day of preschool, everything.
Then, Xander started drawing. Of course, the first person he drew was Keos. Through art, he was able to give Keos a full in-depth character. He could give Keos whatever he wanted; friends, a girlfriend or a boyfriend, a pet, a big house. Though Xander inevitably grew out of his imaginary friend stage, Keos remained with him through art. He only got better as he continued drawing through elementary, intermediate, and high school. Even into college, he continued drawing. And Keos was there through everything, from his first high school dance to the birth of Hayley and passing of Lily, his wife. In an odd way, Keos was one of his closest friends.
As an adult, Xander continued to make art. Though it wasn’t his job and he worked as an elementary school teacher, his love of drawing never stopped.
It was currently winter break and Xander was cleaning out his desk. Hayley was asleep in her bedroom and the apartment was peaceful and quiet, save for soft jazz playing in the background. He found one of high sketchbooks from college and was taking a break to look through his old sketches, smiling to himself as he reminisced on his memories. On one particular page, he’d drawn a full body picture of Keos, one that he remembered took him a while to do. It was one of his favorite drawings. Xander gazed at the page, observing each line and shadow he’d drawn.
