#steno study update

for the last few days, ive been hyperfixated on trying to create my own steno phrasing system

goddamn is this shit hard. i have about 30 sections besides the main pronouns (like as, at, because, did, do, etc.)

im copy-and-pasting from my student copy of the Phoenix dictionary.json file and editing all the outlines to follow a different pattern, incorporating the number bar, too

i tried it with a bunch of sentences and im already noticing some issues, like extremely difficult to impossible to write words and missing outlines for words so that they dont turn into untranslates

ive put dozens of hours of work into this. its kicking my ass and its the only thing i can bear to work on. everything else is just noise basically, a distraction from this

idk how to make this work. i want a system thats easier for me to use, that includes outlines i find intuitive, and that can slide into place for me like pieces in a puzzle. some of it feels good to my brain, others cant work at all with my fingers.

i just hope this doesnt turn out, ultimately, to have been a total time sink. its hard to match practicality with theory like this

Steno Study Update Post #4

ive been super distracted by other stuff and kinda bored of my studying from the textbook. also just been super drained because of the weather.

but i decided to finish the rest of lesson 28. was just a few exercises left. lesson 29 is only 9 pages but full of exercises, so there's that to look forward to.

i downloaded focus writer, which lets you set a writing goal. i set mine for 1 hour and finished that while practicing writing to a video.

Steno Study Update Post #1

Learned to apply the Phoenix Theory patented Vowel Omission Principle with words that have "ih" or "eh" sounds that are accented or easily distinguishable.

Wrote through Exercises 2802 and 2804 at 80 WPM each.

Got distracted by Tumblr.

Organized my dictionary Google doc (added a Table of Contents).

Created a blog page dedicated to how to learn stenography.

Began splitting up Creative Commons licensed videos to use for stenography dictation exercises.

Things to work on:

Work through the rest of Lesson 28.

Create a words list for the videos I have split up.

Begin writing up exercises.

Create warm-ups for beginning my steno day.
