Not many people's faves can say they've had a conversation with Fred from Scooby Doo where he bought up his special interest, but my fave Stephanie Brown can, and I just want you all to know that.
(From The Batman & Scooby Doo Mysteries #12, get the deets on the Steph wiki)
I was looking at the Even Robins site via the Wayback Machine and saw they had the original character design sheet Tom Lyle used when creating Steph (also ft her father and Jimmy Fish who was like a mobster or something I don't remember). So I actually added a new page to Steph wiki collecting all of the character and costume design sheets we have for Steph, because I thought it would be cool to have in one place.
Right now it has this one, Todd Nauck's Steph Robin design for World Without Young Justice, Damion Scott's mainline Steph Robin design doc, Lee Garbett's orginal Steph Batgirl design, and StarBite's Steph character design for Wayne Family Adventures. If you have any more, please feel free to add (or let me know about them and where to find them).
This is a place to collect all the the character and costume design sketches artists have done while creating Stephanie's different identiti
I also kind of went nuts adding pages for a lot of issues on the excellent Dawn of DC and Beyond chronology my co-admin but together. There's something that's soothing for me about updating wikis, it's not wonder I made this one back in the day. Hoping to make pages for the appearances in the rest of the current Cass Batgirl series when I can.
Stephanie Brown's sexualized death and torture, coupled with the fact she didn't get a case in the Batcave unlike Jason Todd (who died, like
I'm working on revamping the Controversy page of the Steph wiki to be a complete chronicle of Stephanie's death, Girl-Wonder's campaign to get Steph a memorial case, all the fan activity of the time and the abysmal behavior of comic professionals to fans surrounding it, the clusterfuck that was the new 52 and her being retconned out of existence and declared "toxic" by Didio, and so on.
This is only a short summary to start off with, I plan to chip away at it little by little, include first hand accounts and lots of sources, and repost the whole thing on Tumblr when I'm done. A little project to do a tiny bit of at a time. But it's been kickstarted now!
I love the amount of shade towards basically the entirety of Robin #25 (plus Tim) teenage me put into the Connor Hawke profile of the Steph wiki. Example of how this is a wiki where bias is actually fine.
She's got as much right as you or I do to be there. -Connor Hawke, Robin 25 Name: Connor Hawke Alias: Green Arrow II Relationship: Crime-fig
I am/was in quite a state because things at work have gotten real bad at work, to the point I don't really think I can talk about it on here right now, but the result was I sent all last night working on the "Stephanie Brown in Alternate Universes" page on the Steph wiki to distract myself.
It's not finished, I still need to fill out a lot the summary part of the profiles and the costume notes, and make a page for her debut in Taste of Justice, but I do have all the Alternate Universes/Alternate Timelines/Potential Future Timelines listed w/ basic stats and pictures. Including ones where she's just mentioned or killed offscreen lmao.
This page will be a repository for all the versions of Stephanie in alternate universes and timelines outside the "main" universe/timeline.
(Excluding for her appearance in Knightfight rn because I'm not sure how to categorize that). Let me know if I missed anything too!
The Sweeping Saga of Stephanie's Superhero Suits- A Costume History from Spoiler to Robin to Batgirl and Back This is a complete, obsessive,
I've been updating the Costume History page of the Steph wiki with higher quality images, something I've wanted to do for a while, because the images I used 15 years ago were from my own scans and extremely tiny and low quality. And the Costume History is still regularly in the top five of the pages that get the most traffic so it's due for an update.
It is a REALLY painstaking look at all the changes and minor variations of her costumes pre-Flashpoint, with color commentary. I delete the brattier parts of teenage me's commentary but kept most of it for nostalgia's sake and cuz I'm kind of right some of the time (like about wedgiemania. Click on the page if that confuses you).
I've added some additional stuff too and updated with things I've noticed with the clearer pics, like a lot of the strange choices Freddie E. Williams II made with Spoiler at the end of the Robin run.
Okay so Steph famously (to me) has these little capsules on her Spoiler belt a lot of the time. They're a cool touch, imo.
Freddie E. Williams II makes a daring decision though
He puts one or two on her sash too. Just awkwardly...there. Stickin' on. All by itself.
Teenage me identified this cover as "a weird square of silver dots on her sash and belt" but ACTUALLY now I can see it's....a weird row of three capsules on her sash and belt. Just those. Grouped together. What a strange place to put them.
The little details of Steph's costume are all over the place in this run really, just like her writing (heyo)
A normal capsule belt! Except it's super big! No sash capsules! No buckles! A white utility belt!
A dinky two capsule belt and sashi and her belt apparently doesn't fit, it's gonna slide off.
And maybe Tim's telling her the doesn't want to see her in the Spoiler costume here because he's tired of this nonsense because now she just has...a regular belt? With holes? And a belt as her sash too? And it's white? And I guess we still have the capsules but they at least look less out of place when they're matching the belt.
This page will be a repository for all the versions of Stephanie in alternate universes and timelines outside the "main" universe/timeline.
Stephanie Brown in Alternate Universe Page Complete!
Wanted to post I did some more anxiety fueled Wiki Editing (It's just satisfying idk) and The Stephanie Brown in alternate universes page is fully done now! An exhaustive list of all the alternate universe Stephanie Browns that exist, with pictures, debut issues, summaries and costume descriptions.
I kind of regret doing the costume descriptions, modern comics have such complicated costumes now, it was very hard to figure out how to describe some of this stuff. Shout out to her Batwoman one from Earth 3 and Future State ones for being the most complicated (I do really like her Future State one but it could stand to be streamlined). But it was kind of an adventure figuring out what was going on with each costume.
I counted what identities appear most in each universe.
She appears as Robin the most by far the most in other universes, with 10 StephRobin appearances total (one is just a memorial case though, another a mention). It's funny since that's her shortest held identity by far in the main universe, but I think it's a combo of writers feeling bad for how she was treated as Robin and wanting to give her another shot, or her needing to be the token girl whenever they have a group of Robins in an AU. Either way, nice to see her be remembered.
It probably helps that her first AU appearance ever was as Robin (in World Without Young Justice) years before she became Robin in the main universe!
Her next most used identity is Spoiler at 7 appearances.
Next is Batgirl at 6 appearances (not counting Future State, where she goes by the Spoiler codename but she and Cass are collectively referred to as the Batgirls)
She appears as Batwoman twice (Earth-3 Batwoman in the second Young Justice series and the brief glimpse of her in Knightfight- though though she might also go by The Bat or something in that universe who knows)
And around three appearances where her heroic identity is unknown (or in the case of the sixty-something Steph in Fatherland, she's likely retired as a superhero) .
(Should note that she doubles up for some of these, appearing as both Batgirl and Robin in Tiny Titans and the Batman Brave and Bold issue, and as all three of her identities in Wayne Family Adventures)
Looking at all the aus, I've previously listed faves, but for anyone who wants them: World Without Young Justice Robin who kickstarted it all, her Batman: The Brave and the Bold dual-Robin Batgirl appearance, Tiny Titans (Robin, Batgirl), Future's End (Batgirl) and Future State (Spoiler). I'm also fond of her DCeased appearance (Robin) and the little story she got to star in during DC vs Vampires All Out War (Batgirl).
Introduction Stephanie: "Was any of it real? Was I ever really Robin?" Batman: "Of course you were." Stephanie: "Good. Then I was really par
I also updated the "Steph as Robin" page in the wiki, since it's regularly in the top ten of the wiki's most viewed pages (meaning it gets like 60 a month...lmao it's a STEEP decline after the top two pages).
It was created by my wonderful co-admin, with appearances as Robin listed, a look at sale data and reviews from her time as Robin, and a short description of the status of her time as Robin in different eras of DC's continuity.
(I also noted where links were broken for the reviews and added a wayback link for the few that were findable on there).
I updated the era descriptions and appearances, added a section for the news articles that came out that focused on Steph as Robin (from non-comic related newspapers and magazines, even!) and short section about the fight to get Stephanie a memorial case, linking to the still under construction controversy page. I think I'll also add a more detailed section for Chuck Dixon's vetoed original plan to make Steph Robin while Tim interned for Blue Beetle.
