April 18-24,2021: Stephen Cobert is coming back!
Last week was a great week for bicycle riding. As I figured would happen, the more I bicycle the more natural it feels and the more I enjoy biking. (And biking more.)
Saturday, April 17, was another night working at the Howard Johnson for me. So Sunday the 18th started out with a bike ride to Walmart to get some groceries and a ride home after that. Monday was a visit to the Y for weight training.
Tuesday was a rest day, and then Wednesday was another visit to the Y, this time to ride the exercise bicycles and try to figure out how to do Intervals on them. (The local YMCA got new and improved? exercise bikes in the time I was inactive, and I think I may have to break down and ask one of the trainers how to program the silly things.) I still got in 15 minutes of riding on them.
Thursday was a trip to the bank to make a deposit and to get a roll of quarters. On the way home I got a call from Becky, my significant other. She informed me that there was a Scooter's coffee shop down the street from our apartment (actually about ¾ of a mile away) and would I be a darling and pick up a white chocolate iced mocha with two extra shots of espresso on the way home. So I change my route home, find the Scooter's and brought home her drink.
Friday morning I was sort of thinking of taking another rest day, but Becky got me up around 8:00 and told me she needed me to be a darling again and go to Scooter's for another white chocolate iced mocha with two extra shots of espresso. So I threw on some clothes and biked back to Scooter's, got the mocha and biked home.
Then Saturday I did something I'd been meaning to do ever since I got the new bike. I rode to Towne West Mall, where my higher-end Liv Alight bicycle had been stolen almost a year earlier. I locked up my bike with my Kryptonite U-lock (no more cable locks for me) and walked a lap around the inside of the mall. It was pretty much as I remembered it: Stores that were closed last year were still closed, stores that had been open were still open. Then I got back on my two wheels and headed home.
The temps in South Central Kansas are making for ideal cycling weather: highs in the 70's or 80's all of this week, only a couple of days have a chance of precipitation, and as long as Scooter's is open I know one other person who's glad I have a bicycle to get me there and back. I got in bike rides yesterday and today, and I'll bet you can guess one of the places I went to!
The comeback is in full swing!
