KC Gives Back drabble for the lovely Klaristar! Thank you soooooo much for donating!! I put a smidgd of a spin on it for ultimate Kol/Caroline brotp feels, and I hope you like that I came up with!
Prompt: Long established KC, Klaus has been in a bad mood for a while and won’t say why so Caroline & Kol get fed up with him and go on vacation, get up to some crazy crap and require to be rescued.
Caroline frowned for what felt like the upteenth time in far too many days, watching Klaus grumble while putting on his jacket. The anger radiating off of his body, and infiltrating the atmosphere of the whole house.
She’d been with him for almost a decade now, and she’s never seen him like this. Having been around him for long enough, she’d become rather acquainted with his specific mood’s. For the most part, he was easy for her to read. But this, whatever was wrong with him now, she couldn’t put a lock on.
If she were being honest she’d prefer his all-out rage mood, because at least there’d be no mistaking what he was feeling. And trying to confront him about it wasn’t really working given that he’s been out of the house all day long, every day for the past two weeks.
Klaus, despite being very closed off given the life he’s lived, has always been shockingly open with her. Which is why his refusal to let her confront him now was so unnerving.
“Klaus—” She tried in vain, before his voice jumped in.
“I have to step out again, love.” He informed her, as if that wasn’t already blatantly obvious from the moment he walked into their room to get his jacket.
“Shocker.” She mumbled, with just enough tonation to ensure that he heard it.
Klaus sighed deeply, his gaze almost apologetic. But not quite enough.
“Sweetheart, it’s nothing—” He tried.
“Nothing what, personal? Because it kind of feels like it is, Klaus.” She snapped, having now stood up from her lounged position on their bed. “I have been trying so hard not to pry, but you’ve never been this closed off with me. And I don’t get it.” She continued fiercely, before her gaze and tone turned much softer. “I just want you to try and let me understand.” She whispered.
Klaus’ gaze was stoic, his stance taken aback by her visible anger.
A slight hesitation in his step didn’t go unnoticed by her as he carefully walked towards her.
His hands reaching up to wrap around her, settling on her lower back.
“I understand that my rather sporadic presence—”
“Try nonexistent.” She interjected immediately, not willing to budge.
Klaus’ eyes rolled out of affection at her specifics, before nodding in agreement.
“Yes, I understand my nonexistent presence,” he corrected, “has been with no explanation. But there’s something I must take care of, love. And it’s not something I desire for you to be in the middle of.” He spoke firmly, hoping her frustration would escalate any further.
A hope that was short-lived.
Caroline shrieked, maneuvering out of his grasp.
“Seriously?!” She yelled. “You call that an answer?”
“Caroline, if I’m conducting matters this way, it’s for a purpose.” He ventured.
“I’m not a matter for you to conduct, Klaus. I’m supposed to be your equal!”
Their eyes were locked heavily on each other, before a soft knock at the door yanked them out of their focus.
“Niklaus, we really should get going.” Elijah’s annoyingly tranquil voice said.
Caroline turned back to hold Klaus’ gaze once more, her eyes pleading for him to stay.
“Apologies, love. But I need to finish this.” He resigned, the look on his face riddled with worry wondering just how far he’s pushed her.
Bowing his head in shame, he trudged out of their room, telling himself that what he was handling was much too important.
Caroline stood behind, her mind reeling with possibilities for what had just happened.
Kol wandered curiously into Klaus and Caroline’s bedroom, following what he assumes was a rather heated conversation. If Klaus’ demeanor when he left with Elijah was anything to go by, heated might be an understatement.
As unsympathetic as he’s grown to be over the centuries, a part of him truly felt sympathy for the blonde spitfire that waltzed into his family’s lives. The one who did what no one before her has ever managed to do—tame his ever difficult brother.
In large part the sympathy derived from the wish that Niklaus would simply inform her of the matters at hand. Matters that given his behavior one could assume had nothing to do with her, but in reality was very much the opposite.
A uniformed group of vampire’s have made several threats on Caroline’s life, and his brother doesn’t know how to handle it.
Not to mean that he doesn’t know what to do of the poor souls who were idiotic enough to make such claims, to that he’s sure that Niklaus has one plan, and one only—to eradicate.
Emotionally however, his brother is overwhelmed. Facing the fear that something could ever happen to Caroline, is something he’s not equipped to face. He’s never done well with fear, that one.
His instincts are causing him to push her away for protection, but in the long run it’ll do more harm than good.
Two weeks have gone by while Nik and Elijah have tried to trace through every set of channels that exist, who exactly these vampire’s are. Elijah’s confident they’ll have a hold of them soon, but holding off on telling Caroline is a terrible way to go about it.
Looking at her now, dried tears on her face, he questioned whether she’d survive his family’s toxicity.
“Come on, darling. Nik can’t be that terrible in bed.” Kol joked, trying to get some of her usual self back.
Caroline breathed out a laugh, her face curving into a small smile.
“What are you doing here?” She asked curiously, “I figured you’d be with Klaus and Elijah, since there seems to be no restriction to anyone being in the loop except for me.” She bitterly replied, her tone harsher than Kol’s ever heard it.
“I wouldn’t worry too much about what my brother’s are up to, I assure you we’re not missing much.” He lied carefully.
Caroline’s eyes gleamed with something he couldn’t quite place, although it remarkably resembled envy.
“Yeah, well speaking of missing things, that is soooo not my case with Klaus right now.” She mumbled. “I would love to get out of here for a few days, and see how he handles me being nonexistent, and childishly unwilling to communicate.” She tossed out.
Kol’s mind instantly started turning at her words, a brilliant idea coming across.
“Well, I don’t see why that couldn’t be arranged.” Kol said bravely. “We do own a private jet, and I can have it fueled and ready for take-off within a few hours. What do you say?” He offered, already making note of all the horrible things that will come from this. Ultimately deciding that if he plays his cards right, this nonsense between Klaus and Caroline could be done and over with by the end of the week.
Caroline’s eyes widened at his suggestion, surely having said her piece without even remotely desiring such an outcome.
It wasn’t before long that her eyes got a whole new glint to them, one full of mischief.
Kol was standing on the edge of his toes, curious as to whether she’d take the bait.
“I’m in.” Caroline replied, a slight tremble to her voice. Her hyper-active self already rummaging through her closet and packing a bag.
Smiling at a job well done he pulled out his phone, beginning to make just a few peculiar arrangements for their trip, leaving behind a now tremendously occupied Caroline.
Caroline was now immensely jittery, an emotional place she’s reached as more days had gone by.
She and Kol had been roaming about in London for four days now. Their phone’s having been ditched right before boarding the jet, their credit cards left behind at the house, eliminating any immediate ways of tracking them.
At first she was exceedingly pleased at the form of payback she was giving to a certain hybrid. As the days went by she wondered if perhaps what they’d done had been excessive.
She fought tooth and nail to get where she was with Klaus, their progress both together and individually, utterly astounding.
So a part of her wondered, if this was something that was capable of breaking them forever.
Klaus was…protective, to say the least. And right about now, he’s likely made his way through who knows how many towns.
And while she’d left a note, that in no way insinuated her departure from his life forever. She now feared that he might interpret it that way, and that was something he might never forgive her for.
“Caroline, you’ve had that face for the past two days. We’re in London, what is there to possibly be so glum about? I know the weather could really dampen a person’s mood, but you look physically ill, honestly.” Kol joked.
Caroline rolled her eyes, a sign of annoyance, although she’d never tire of his constant humor.
Of all of Klaus’ siblings, she had become the closest to Kol, his never-ending wit, and light-heartedness meshing so well with her personality.
“I know that I was angry with Klaus, but I don’t know if we did the right thing, Kol.” She whispered, her nerves getting the better of her.
“Caroline, you may not have known Nik for as long as I have. But trust me, the man looks at you like you invented the stars, whatever his reaction may be, you both will be fine.” He assured her, Caroline’s heart warming at Kol’s words.
A tender moment that as perusal with Kol, wasn’t long lasting.
“And speaking of fine…” He led on, glancing appreciatively at a brunette waiting in line at a coffee shop. “I’ll catch up with you, darling.” Kol said, before speeding off to do god knows what.
Giggling to herself, Caroline strolled down the street’s of London, making her way back to the hotel. A hotel being the only option as Klaus would’ve known if they’d stayed in any of their properties.
It wasn’t long till the hairs on the back of her neck started to stand, her breath catching in her throat at the inkling feeling of what was to come.
Damn, leaving her phone back in New Orleans was a terrible idea.
Taking a deep breath, she whirled around ready to face whoever had come for her as best as she could.
What she didn’t anticipate was the second person coming from the other side, quickly grabbing hold of her mouth before she could shout for the nearby original.
One of their hands moving to the top of her head and snapping her neck. The encounter over, as quickly as they had arrived.
Caroline groaned in pain, reaching up to massage her sore neck.
Opening her eyes slowly, not knowing whatever heinous tactics she’d face, she was surprised to realize that she’d been laying on a rather comfortable couch.
Where she was though could use a little more love she thought, taking in the cobblestone cell she was in.
Her eyes narrowed when the large metal door swung open, a pale, black haired woman waltzing through.
“Who the hell are you?” Caroline immediately asked, speeding forward and gripping the new face around the neck.
The woman smirked, her hands wrapping around Caroline’s wrist, gently pushing back so she had enough airway to talk.
“Relax, Caroline.” She said warmly, shocking the blonde. “I’m sure Kol will explain when he gets here.”
Caroline dropped her hold instantly, her gaze murderous.
“Kol?!” She yelled. “What are you talking about, did he set this up?” She continued, the woman before her beginning to laugh.
“I apologize for the slight discomfort one of my guys caused you.” The woman said gently, gesturing to her neck. “It was the quickest way we could think of to get you off the street like Kol asked.”
“I’m gonna need you to pause and rewind—to the beginning.” Caroline demanded.
She was about to continue before the door flew off it’s hinges and coming straight at them, the raven-haired woman quickly pushing her out of the way, then leaping towards the wall.
Caroline sighed in relief when she noticed Klaus stomping his way in, Kol and Elijah close behind.
“Klaus.” She breathed out, his downright murderous gaze instantly melting at the sight of her.
“Sweetheart.” He greeted, quickly standing before her and pulling her into his arms.
Klaus inhaled deeply, his face pressed into her neck, arms firmly around her waist.
“Are you alright, love?” He asked quickly, pulling his head back to look at her and assess any possible injuries.
Nodding profusely, Caroline snaked her arms around Klaus’ neck and yanked him back to her.
“I’m sorry for leaving like I did, but I was so mad—” She had started, Klaus quickly cutting her off by pressing his lips to her.
Moaning into his mouth, her hands moved to tangle themselves in his hair.
A low whine escaping her mouth when he pulled away to turn and deal with her captors.
“Wait a second, Klaus.” Caroline said before he could make a move, remembering the woman’s words just a few moments ago. “Kol, I believe you’re up.” She said dangerously low.
The faux look of concern for Caroline’s well-being was soon to disappear from his face, a wicked grin now in it’s place.
“What is this in regards to?” Elijah asked, the confusion evident in his face.
Klaus’ hands were resting on her hips, the extent of his emotions clear as day in his body position.
Gesturing to the woman in the corner, Kol waved his hand to bring her forward.
“Lilah here, is a dear friend of mine who just so happened to be willing to do me a favor.” He introduced.
“And why would you ask your friend to kidnap me?” Caroline fired back, revealing precisely to Klaus and Elijah, what they walked into the middle of.
“Have you lost your bloody mind?” Klaus growled.
Elijah’s hands were held out in front of him for the sheer magnitude of situations his family manages to find themselves in.
“Kol, given the now concluded efforts back in New Orleans to neutralize where the threats on Caroline’s life were coming from, permit me if I’m going to need a bit of an explanation here. How could you possibly have thought this was a good idea?” Elijah revealed, much to Caroline’s surprise.
Her eyes now wide in shock, head turned to glare up at Klaus. So many things making sense to her.
“To neutralize the what?”
“Well what do you know, my job here is done. Nik, do try not to come after Lilah in the future, she was instructed not to harm her. And Caroline, do give it to him good, yeah?” Kol blurted out, his intent now blatantly clear. His hand landing on both Lilah and Elijah’s back, ushering them out of the cell. “Elijah and I will meet you both at the jet.” He finished, quickly making his way away from the pairing.
Caroline could’ve sworn that there was literal steam emitting from her ears, because of how heated she felt.
Klaus raised his hands in surrender, cursing the day Kol was born under his breath.
“Klaus…” Caroline led, “is that what you’ve been keeping from me, and where you’ve been day and night for the past couple of weeks?” She asked incredulously.
Klaus’ jaw tightened, before he nodded.
“Are you insane!” She shrieked. “You can’t keep something like that from me! That’s my life you were basically gambling with, I had a right to know someone was after me. I don’t care how safe you were trying to keep me.” She said in disbelief that he would keep something so vital from her.
“Do you think it’s easy for me to receive threats on your life and to know that they are solely caused by your relation to me?” Klaus turned around. “As a way to get to me?” He continued. “To know that your life holds no meaning to them except as a weapon against me?”
Caroline’s gaze softened gently, the anger she felt still prominent.
She may have come into this relationship with her own insecurities, and so did Klaus. His fear that she’d realize choosing him wasn’t worth it so intensely at the forefront, even when he didn’t say it.
“You’re missing the point.” She quickly responded. “I’m not gonna get up and leave because someone thinks they can use me to get to you. I’m not gonna stop thinking you’re worth it, Klaus” She rambled. “I chose you, and I don’t regret it.”
Klaus gazed down at the floor in near embarrassment, her words ringing loud and clear. The shame he felt visible in his movements as he slowly sauntered towards his blonde beauty, embracing her once more.
“Forgive me, love. You know I could not bare the thought of losing you, in more ways than one.” He agonizingly apologized, acknowledging his innate fear.
Caroline grinned, content with his submissive apology. Leaning up to press a soft kiss to his lips, her life falling back into place as his hand grasped hers firmly.
“How bad is the house?” She remembered, knowing full-well that the damage he would’ve cause once he realized she’d gone would be extensive.
“Rebekah’s refurnishing as we speak, I’m afraid there were many casualties.” He said in all seriousness, a light tone to his voice as he led her out of the cell.
Caroline hummed happily, that Rebekah and her wonderful taste was already at work on their home.
“Okay, now tell me what I’ve missed. And don’t you dare leave anything out.” Caroline requested.
The pair fell back into their natural synch, one that would prove withstanding through any and all future crisis’.
This is a drabble I’ve had for a while, it is Klaroline + Rebenzo secret dating, the two couples end up at the same Inn and well...secret’s out. Inspired by Smallville 9x15. I hope you enjoy, lemme know what you think!
Caroline waltzed around her apartment not even trying to contain the bright smile that was plastered all over her face.
“Alright, I’m staging a class A intervention.” Her roommate Katherine Pierce interjected, trotting into the bedroom and plopping down on her bed, a small tub of Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in her hands.
“Oh that’s rich, Kat.” Caroline laughed, “and just what, pray tell, are you intervening for?” She pondered, sitting across from her, tossing the pair of jeans next to her into the suitcase in the middle of the bed.
“You’ve been prancing around the apartment all chipper...and excited.” She complained.
“Well why didn’t you say so, have you called my mom yet? Clearly I need to be handled.” Caroline teased, making hands at the spoon in the brunette’s hand, perking up even more as she forked it over.
“Are you gonna even tell me why you’re so excited?”
“You’ll be happy to know, that Klaus is taking me up to some type of hotel in Upstate.” She revealed excitedly.
Two weeks ago her boyfriend of almost a year had surprised her with reservations to a quaint, and highly recommended place in Upstate, New York. Not that romantic gestures from Klaus were surprising, but she was a bit taken back by the grandness of it. Although she’s surmised it has something to do with deciding to reveal their relationship to his family in the very near future.
If she’s being honest she’s not entirely certain how he’s kept it from his siblings for this long, from the sounds of it, they’re quite the invasive bunch, and he’d been reluctant to expose her.
Elijah and Finn were Corporate for a bank in the Upper West Side, Klaus is a few years in at renowned Architecture firm, and Kol and Rebekah attend Brown, and Columbia---respectively.
Katherine leaned back in surprise, her eyes bearing a mischievous glare.
“I for one am ecstatic to hear that. You can go bother the other guests up there with your bunny activity, instead of me.”
Caroline gasped in mid-reach towards the ice cream.
“Are you kidding me? When you and your dates learn to keep it down, we’ll return the favor.” She challenged, the brunette shrugging in response, not even remotely ashamed of her delicious activities with whomever she deemed appropriate. “Nice, very mature.”
“I don’t know what you want me to say, some of them are very good.” She reasoned.
“From the sounds of it, so are you.” Caroline acknowledged.
Katherine scoffed and nodded, “as if there was any doubt.” Snatching the spoon back from her perky friend, she glanced over into the suitcase. “Now your trip to that Lingerie store on West 5th makes sense.” She noticed, eyebrows raising at the contents.
“And yet it’s far more than what you’d bring if this were your weekend away.” She fired back, internally gleeful at the faint blush she managed to get on her. “Oh, while I’m gone, please make sure Enzo doesn’t come and raid our entire kitchen.” Caroline remembered.
Katherine shot up, remembering what the dark haired man had told her earlier over the phone. “Actually, now that you mention it, Enzo’s going out of town this weekend too. Something about some relative’s wedding?” She tossed out, wondering if it’ll ring any bells.
Caroline’s eyebrows raised in confusion, “what relative? Enzo doesn’t really talk to any of them.” She established.
“How do I know your mystery boyfriend isn’t Enzo, it is pretty coincidental you’re both going out on the same weekend.” Katherine tried to accuse with a serious glare.
“Because Klaus isn’t a mystery? You’ve met him like a dozen of times, Kat. Besides, Enzo? Eugh gross, that’d be like dating my brother, if I had one.” She replied, a look of total horror panned across her face.
“Has he even met Klaus?” She asked, laughing when Caroline vigorously shook her head.
“I’m gonna keep those two from meeting for just about as long as the universe allows me to keep running interference. I’ve measured all possible scenarios in my head, and in not a single one of them do Klaus and Enzo meeting turn out okay. Klaus would kill him.” She surmised, just shuddering at the thought.
“Oh come on, Enzo is a little, straight-forward, but he’s not that bad, Care.” Katherine defended in vain, knowing there was not a single shred of truth to that.
“The man has no filter!” She yelled, “not that I’m one to talk cause I know I ramble a lot, but Enzo just goes on and on.”
“Alright, I’ll give you that one. Well, on the bright side at least you’ll be free of that constant chatter this weekend.”
“So, where do your lady friends think you’ll be this weekend?” Rebekah spit out, her tone slightly venomous.
Enzo took a deep breath, tossing his jacket over his suitcase that stood near the front door of his apartment.
“There’s no need for that. Katherine and Caroline are practically my sisters.” He grumbled, admiring her fiery spirit, but wincing at her hostile attitude. Knowing full well that both his friends were capable of matching that attitude, it’s why he was so reluctant to let them meet.
One off tick and the three would never get along, something he wasn’t willing to chance. He’s never been more serious with anyone than with Rebekah, and with his family estranged, prior to her the girls were all he had. It meant more to him than anything that they be able to coexist harmoniously, and if it took delaying their introductions to ensure that, it’s exactly what he’d do.
“Oh?” She prodded, “If that’s the case, why haven’t I met them then, huh?” She continued, her gaze hard, but not without the concerned frown.
“When you meet them, it’s going to be under the most precise circumstances.” Enzo emphasized. “I don’t know if anyone’s ever told you this, but you’re a bit of a hot head.” He teased, snaking his arms around her waist and pulling her towards him. “And so are Katherine and Caroline when they have cause to be.”
“Are you saying I’m cause to be hot headed?” She pulled back.
“No, I’m saying you’re very bold, and while that’s one of the things I love about you,” He stressed, “all I’m doing is being cautious.” He revealed carefully, eyes narrowing as he hoped she could understand his sentiments on the matter.
“Is that what this weekend is? Are you trying to butter me up?” She joked, donning a half smile.
“No, come on, this weekend is just so we can shag on location.” He blurted out in a laughing tone, dropping his arms from embracing her to try and get away from her swatting hands.
“Don’t be so vulgar, Lorenzo!” She tried to be serious, not being able to help the laugh that she barked out. “Now you see, you have your reasons for waiting on introducing me to your family, and this is why the same goes for me only with mine. I promise you, that kind of talk would not go over well with my brothers.”
“I’d imagine not.” He agreed, “now come on, we better get going if we’re going to beat traffic.” He suggested, grasping the blonde’s hand in his before picking up her suitcase, making note to return for his own.
Caroline squealed as they leisurely strolled up to the Inn that had a cabin-like appearance to it.
“Is it weird that it’s exactly the way I imagined it’d be?” She blurted out, side-stepping what she was certain was a patch of ice.
Despite loving almost everything about being a now permanent New Yorker, moving from Virginia further up had it’s necessary adjustments required---like the weather. New York had some brutal winters, and make no mistake, they were right in the midst of one. There’s also the fact that Upstate is just all the more colder and snowy.
“Be honest, love. Did you google Inn’s up here when I told you about it?” Klaus surmised, suitcases in each hand. “Caroline, what the bloody hell is in these?” He commented after, struggling to get a good grip on both her suitcases, and his single.
Caroline was an organized, prepared, and meticulous person by nature. And there was no way she was heading up to a place that’s like 80% woods, without packing absolutely everything she could manage. Besides, she had to do some serious process of elimination when it came to packing those two suitcases, she remembered. Her sighs coming out almost solemnly as she thought back to what she had to leave out.
“I...may have googled ‘Upstate Inn’s’ on the image search, but I’ll have you know this is how I imagined it before I even did that.” She reasoned, pulling her gloves off to hold open the door, practically melting at the warm heat that enveloped her the moment she stepped in.
Klaus chuckled, never tiring of her constant eagerness.
“As for my suitcases, when you really wish you had something from your apartment, and I just so happen to have thought ahead and packed it, you’ll be thanking me.” She fired, smiling brightly at the concierge.
“Now of that, I have no doubt.” He folded, knowing very well that the odds of that being true were immensely high. At this point, it’s a wonder how he functions without her, her mind runs 24/7, coming in handy it’s fair share. “Reservation under Mikaelson.” He said warmly, getting nervous as she began typing to check the system.
“One queen-sized bed, mountain view, will there be any additional things you need, Mr and Mrs.Mikaelson?” The red-headed concierge stated, staring strangely at Caroline once she started coughing.
“I’m---okay.” She wheezed, a curious glare directed towards her---husband.
Klaus’ mouth gaped, the air around them making him antsy.
He feared any grand reaction out of Caroline for the name debacle they’ve got going on here, but it was simply easier in terms of the reservation, and he meant nothing overly substantial by it.
As committed as he is to Caroline, and well-known of the fact that he never intends to part from her, he was afraid that this would scare her, and not in quite the same way it scared him. Truth be told, marrying Caroline was something that he’s now deemed as something he’ll most likely one day wish to do, and that terrified the hell out of him.
More in the sense that, what if she didn’t share those sentiments? He’s drawn the conclusion amongst himself that one day, it’s something he’s going to overwhelmingly consider, but they’re still quite a way off from that.
After the concierge handed them their room keys, and arranged for their bags to be brought to their room, they shuffled over to the staircase on the opposite side of the Inn.
Caroline chuckled softly when she caught Klaus glancing around nervously, tilting over and gripping his hand in hers she squeezed tightly.
“While I was...taken by surprise, it’s not like I’m freaked out or anything. You know that, right?” She questioned softly, guiding him up the wooden stairs.
Klaus sighed in relief, wrapping his right arm tightly around her waist and thrusting her towards one of the bannister’s, placing his left hand against it for stability. Before she could say anything at the sudden movements, she swallowed her words when Klaus captured her lips with his.
Caroline’s eyes fluttered close, her hands choosing to rest on each side of his neck, eventually sighing happily into the kiss.
Pulling away reluctantly, Klaus pressed his forehead against hers, pulling her off the wall and into his chest.
“I take it that’s what you were hoping I’d say?” She giggled, moving her face to nuzzle his neck.
“Even more than I had hoped for.” He confirmed, “now, let’s get to our room, shall we?” He continued, pulling back slightly as another couple made their way down the stairs.
“So? What do you think?” Enzo asked, extending his hand to Rebekah as she made her way out of the car.
She shivered a bit at the chilly breeze, before nodding.
“Very nice.” She decided, “if you’re into being in the middle of nowhere.” She added teasingly, looking back towards the trunk to slyly smile at Enzo.
“Have I ever told you that you have a way with words?” Enzo joked.
Rebekah turned her head back to look at the large Inn, her hair being pushed back by the wind.
“Not the first I’ve heard of it.” She shrugged, moving to take her own suitcase from Enzo’s hands. “It really is beautiful up here, thank you for bringing me.” She said in a more serious, heartfelt tone.
Enzo couldn’t help the wide grin that spread across his face.
“My pleasure. Come on, let’s go get checked in. Luckily we got here right before it got dark out.” he trailed off, leading his feisty blonde.
“You know, this kind of thing would happen out here.” Caroline complained, following the file of couples making their way to the Inn’s lobby after hours.
“I’m fairly certain a power outage isn’t the end of the world, love.” Klaus retorted.
Caroline scoffed, and shook her head.
“Are you kidding, we’re in the middle of nowhere! What if that’s what this Inn like specializes in, Klaus? What if they take temporary tenants and kill them all.”
“Caroline, you do realize that we still have our phones, with perfect reception. And the car is still outside. We could leave right now if we wanted to.” He tried to reason.
“That’s what they want you to think!” She continued, her mind spiraling into an array of scenarios. Gripping Klaus’ arm tightly, she ran the fabric of his cotton long-sleeved shirt through her fingers. Slightly annoyed that she had already discarded his shirt when the lights went out, forcing him to put it back on.
“Sweetheart, no more late-night movies for you.” He said, not in anyway trying to hide the look on his face at her ramblings.
Caroline gasped softly feeling herself bump into someone as they made their way off the stairs. Gently reaching out to steady the blonde she’d almost knocked over, eyes wide.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” She spoke out into the dimly lit lobby, Klaus’ hand heavy in hers.
“That’s quite alright, no worri---Nik?!” The blonde shrieked.
Klaus’ head snapped away from his girlfriend’s gaze, recognizing far too well the voice that just spoke.
Caroline turned once more towards whomever she’d bumped into, eyes widening at Enzo’s very familiar, albeit just as surprised face, looking back at her.
“Who the hell is this?” Chorused out from the group, multiple fingers pointing each way.
“Rebekah.” Klaus acknowledged in disbelief, finding himself staring at his sister at 12 AM, with some bloke attached to her. Glancing at the dark-haired man, he was about to address, he shocked him further by addressing neither he, nor his sister.
“Gorgeous, you’ve got a hell of a lot of explaining to do. Never took you for much of a secret keeper, Caroline.” He’d finally said, a hint of humor evident in his voice.
Klaus whirled towards Caroline, more confused than he’s ever been.
Caroline looked taken aback, glancing around and noting the faces of anger, before turning back towards Enzo.
“Me? Enzo, what on earth are you doing here?!” Caroline yelled.
“I could ask you the same thing, gorgeous.” He replied, much to the others’ dismay.
Rebekah sighed exasperatedly, “must you call her that?” She bit out, having finally placed a face to the name she’d heard so much about. Her arms crossed over her chest, the cotton robe not nearly having enough fabric to conceal her from this mess.
“Yes, must you?” Klaus agreed, arms folded in a similar manner to Rebekah, glancing towards this so-called ‘Enzo’.
Enzo shrugged, a cheeky grin now plastered on.
“Old habit, I suppose. You understand, right mate?” He tried, clearly trying to test his limits.
“No, I don’t. So how about---” Klaus began, the lights coming back on cutting him off.
“Okay! Why don’t we discuss this tomorrow morning, it’s late.” Caroline suggested, gesturing towards the other couples making their way back to their rooms, as she tried to defuse the tension.
“Sounds good to me.” Rebekah agreed bitterly, tossing one disgruntled look at Klaus before mumbling a ‘good night’ and stomping up the stairs.
“If she let’s me live long enough, I’ll see you tomorrow.” Enzo muttered, groaning before following after Rebekah.
Caroline winced at Klaus’ slightly harsh gaze, gripping his hand once more.
“I take it that was your sister?’ She lead off, gently tugging him back to their room, enabling a very long night of conversation. Stupid power outage.
“Okay, so when they get here, we should ask them to sit with us.” Caroline said firmly, politely thanking the server for pouring her coffee.
“That’s the least of what I’m going to bloody ask of them, sweetheart.” Klaus gritted out, making the mistake of looking towards his far too loving girlfriend, whose soft gaze he swore had mystical capabilities. “She’s been lying to me for who knows how long.” He continued, his voice elevating.
“And so have you!” She countered back quickly. As tangled as all of this became, it’s best she bring up how they’re all guilty of the same as often as she can.
“Klaus, can’t you---” She started before a voice interrupted her.
“Well, well, well, look at what the cat dragged in.” Rebekah spoke carefully, eloquently taking the seat right across from Caroline, holding her head high.
Caroline took the other blonde in, making sure to mark her admiration of her appearance.
“Rebekah, be civilized for once in your life.” Klaus spat out, jaw hardening as Enzo sat across from him.
“You don’t get to tell my anything, dear brother.” Rebekah replied, “alright then, so who’s this one? How distasteful must she be for you to have never mentioned her, hmm?” She viciously jabbed.
Caroline’s mouth gaped open, leaning back in her chair, now fully understanding why Klaus advocated for her to not come anywhere near his family.
“Easy there, Bekah. That’s still my best friend you’re insulting there.” Enzo argued, sighing deeply when Rebekah rolled her eyes.
“Yes, I’m painfully aware. But that doesn’t negate her being the trollop messing around with my brother.” She answered.
“That’s quite enough, sister. I will not have you---” Klaus tried.
“Not have me what, being apart of your life?” She tossed out, her gaze heated and unyielding.
“If you had any sense of self-reflection, you’d realize that I was merely trying to shield someone that I love from our family’s relentless, and often unforgiving, attitude.”
“Huh, same here.” Enzo admired, understanding so well where his hard persona derives from.
Caroline shrieked, her arms unfolding, laying flat against the table.
“And what the hell is that supposed to mean?” Caroline questioned.
“Oh come on, Caroline. Don’t act like you and Katherine aren’t intimidating, both individually, and as a duo. Can you blame me for assuming neither of you would get on with each other?” Enzo explained.
“Well I don’t know, why don’t you ask the one who called me a ‘trollop’.” She snapped.
“Why don’t you ask me yourself.” Rebekah fired.
Enzo’s eyes widened, leading him to place a comforting touch on Rebekah’s leg.
“That’s enough.” Enzo butted in, apparently we all hid the same thing, for the exact same reason. And given this charmed conversation, we all performed right up to expectations, didn’t we?” He berated.
Caroline let out a deep breath, nodding along.
“Enzo’s right, which is as much a shock to me, as this entire ordeal has been.” She joked, her heart settling down once she saw the small smile work it’s way onto Rebekah’s previously stone-cold expression. “I will forgive and forget your just peachy comments, if you tell me where you got those amazing boots you’re wearing. Because everyone should have a pair, they go with everything.” Caroline rambled, quickly going on a tangent.
Rebekah gasped, looking towards Enzo.
“See, I told you they go with everything!” She jabbed happily, not being one to pass up a sense of validation.
“They’re still not worth twelve-hundred dollars.” Enzo replied.
“For christ’s sake, Rebekah.” Klaus interjected, absolutely floored on the prices they’re willing to pay. Noticing the natural essence that their conversation had thankfully acquired.
“When I hear you lecturing Elijah on what he spends on suits, I’ll happily give you my undivided attention.” Rebekah tossed at him. “Beside’s, they’re Valentino’s, and are worth the price, I assure you.”
“You’re damn right they are. Barney’s?” Caroline agreed, fully intrigued as Rebekah nodded.
Enzo glared back and forth between the vibrant blonde’s, turning to Klaus.
“Don’t suppose we could have a drink and get away with it, do you?” He semi-joked.
Klaus breathed out a laugh, feeling relieved as the tension lifted from the room.
“Afraid not.” Klaus concluded.
“Well, now that pleasantries are out of the way, tell me everything.” Rebekah pestered, emoting a much calmer persona.
Klaus groaned, leaning back towards Enzo once more.
“On second thought…” He brought up, resigning their newfound circumstances, a world in which Caroline and Rebekah were civil. A sure journey that’s bound to become.
Fluffy Klaroline at a cabin in the snow, this is far fluffier than I’ve ever gone, pretty sure I gave myself a cavity. Little itty bit of smut, and ta-daaaa.
Caroline shivered, snuggling further into the covers of the rather large bed. She’d been tossing and turning for almost an hour, the sounds of Klaus’ howling keeping her up.
Turning on her side to face his side of the bed, she looked bewildered at the numbers that read on the clock. Klaus has always been an early riser, but this was seriously insane. It was three o’clock in the morning and he was running around in the forest---as a wolf.
Groaning at what was to come, she tossed the covers off, instantly regretting the decision. The chilly air hitting her bare skin wasn’t even remotely pleasant. Quickly making her way to the foot of the bed, she recalled Klaus’ discarded henley, exactly where she’d remembered she’d tossed it upon their arrival to the room.
Currently they were in a cabin in Switzerland, it was her favorite of the one’s they had. Klaus was more partial to the one in Alaska, but given that---for the first time ever---it was her idea to come spend a couple of weeks up here, he was willing to comply with whatever location she chose.
72 years in, despite the wood’s not exactly being her scene, except for that one time, she found these visits almost crucial to their longevity as a normally functioning couple, in a world that was anything but. A part of her was almost surprised that it’s been quite a few decades already, while still within the frame of her would’ve been human life, there was something almost everlasting about their years together that had already passed.
They may have gone by in the blink of an eye, in retrospect, it seemed a great deal more, and that only excited her for the many that would follow.
Making her way to the one set of large windows that adorned the room, she shoved aside the maroon colored curtains, basking at the site of the Swiss Alps, noting the fresh snow that was currently piling up.
That does certainly explain Klaus’ far too early escapade as a wolf this morning, she realized. His favorite time to shift is when it’s snowing, and given that they live the majority of their lives in New Orleans, it’s not something he gets to do often.
Pulling down the sleeves of the shirt, she pressed her hand against her nose, inhaling the scent that she’d grown quite the fondness for. Her eyes tried to make out his form in the darkness, his blondish fur easy to spot amongst the heaps of snow.
Seeing how freely he ran around always made her heart ache. It’s been almost a century since he broke his curse, and yet a part of her still looked back at the events of it. Despite all the hurt he caused to get it done, she came to the realization long ago that it was an intensity she’d never truly understand.
Klaus went the majority of his life, never being whole, all because of a decision that wasn’t even his. He had half of him sealed away for over a thousand years, an aspect of him that he’d been essentially raised to think less of.
Even now his shifting is often something he avoids, if ever. Only a select number of people having been exposed to it. It makes her melt inside that her presence permitted such ease for it. Her eyes widened as the wolf looked straight at her, she hates it when he does that, more accurately she hates that somehow he always knows.
Caroline smiled warmly, almost secretly loving the very attentive glance he was paying her from afar. He gestured his head forward, and she couldn’t help but laugh. Nodding her head she tossed her hands up in defeat, retreating back into their room to go back to sleep---just like he wanted her to.
------------------------------
Klaus wrapped the towel he’d left near the door around his waist as he walked leisurely into the luxurious cabin. Making note to call someone up to handle the utter mess that Caroline would undoubtedly agree he was making.
Shaking any water out of his hair, the cool droplets meeting his skin. Sprinting up to their room, he eased in satisfaction at the welcoming sight. Caroline lay utterly engrossed under the duvet, fast asleep, her steady breathing music to his ears. And on his side of the bed no less.
Yearning to join her he hesitated, knowing full well that a shower was needed before he could take one step closer towards that bed.
Trudging towards the en suite bathroom, Klaus hopped in the shower, at most taking ten minutes to rinse the residue of his outdoor activities. Placing on a pair of black cotton pants, he toweled off his hair and exited the steamy roomy.
Klaus looked down at the stunning, very sleepy, blonde, his heart warming at merely the sight. Knowing that she was there, calm, and solely waiting for him to get back, enacted emotions that he’s certain he’ll never tire of. In the early stages of their relationship, as he wearily adjusted on how to have one, with someone as ‘all in’ as she was, he’d feared that slight uncertainty would drive her away.
A fear the ended up being completely unwarranted, as Caroline had her own quarrels amongst herself about the literal eternal circumstances. As it turns out, that along with his uncertainties towards commitment, managed to balance each other out. Where he struggled in logistics, she was meticulous. Where she fretted over the vast nature of their imminent relationship, he narrowed it down.
Not that he’d ever anticipated the sort of lovey nature to their dynamic, but there it was.
Leaning down, Klaus gently lifted her into his arms, moving her aside just slightly so that there was enough room for him to slide in next to her.
Chuckling softly at her immediate groan, he then lifted the covers and enveloped her. Pressing his face into her neck, he placed soft kisses, down to her collarbone.
“Those better be shower droplets that I’m feeling on my shirt.” She incited, humming contently as his ministrations.
“I think you mean my shirt, love.” He teased, his hands traveling to the hem, tracing it along her bare thighs.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Caroline evaded, her arms limp at her side as Klaus nuzzled her neck.
Over time she’s learned that due to his wolf-y nature, the big bad hybrid is quite the cuddler, most of all after a shift. Not that he’d ever admit it, in fact, she’s pretty confident he’d rather die first.
“Oh I’m sure it’ll come to you, from your place on my side.” He pressed further, his hands snaking under the thin olive green fabric, delighted to find nothing else underneath. Klaus’ eyes glinted mischievously, looking down at her.
“As if you’re surprised.” She said, her hands reaching up to cup his face. “And you’ll be happy to know that I was on your side of the bed because I rather like your smell.” She revealed sheepishly, “Something you’re more than aware of, and yet you still insist on like evaporating before the sun comes up.”
Klaus laughed loudly, his gaze turning lustful once Caroline’s hands started wandering over his chest.
It was times like these where their love had its knack for frightening him. The swell he feels in his chest every time he wanted her, never truly going away. Becoming a practical permanent sensation that he’d likely be distraught without, should it ever not present itself.
“In my defense, I figured you’d remain asleep.” He argued, bracing for the imminent scoff.
“Klaus, when do I ever stay asleep if you leave?” She questioned, squealing mildly as he flipped her to lay on top of him.
Klaus lay back against his pillow, sighing exasperatedly, “more often than not, sweetheart.”
“Yeah, well you try sleeping through some narcissist wolf howling like he owns the place for like an hour.”
“I do own the place.” He fired back, Caroline giggling in defeat as he referenced the acres of land that belonged to them.
“But it’d be nice to remember that you inhabit it with other people, namely a girlfriend, who likes to be asleep at three in the morning.” She said, her knees now firmly on either side of his hips.
Klaus abruptly sat up, his hands snaking under her single layer once more, trailing up her thighs, one hand wrapped around her waist, the other landing over her butt.
“Is that so?” He asked mockingly, “Then I suppose the Caroline I’ve been shagging that early in the morning is a different one, hm?” His tone having turned husky, his fingers creeping around her form, finding her clit.
Caroline’s breath hitched, her eyes fluttering closed, pressing her forehead to his as he rubbed frantic circles. The sensations he continuously manages to deliver, always feeling fresh, and innovative. A tradition she was more than confident he’d be able to live up to.
Klaus pressed his lips to hers, his tongue gaining entrance once she began to pant against him.
Swallowing all her moans, Klaus dragged his hand down, inserting a single finger into her heat.
Caroline moaned loudly, her hands bracing for the pressure by tightly gripping Klaus' shoulders.
"Klaus..." she breathed out, her moans turning to screams once he added a second finger.
"Come on, love. That's it." He coerced, driving her closer to the edge, grinning as her face pressed into his neck muffling her sounds.
Bring his thumb up, he pressed against her clit once more, lightly pinching, marveling at Caroline's beauty as she came undone.
“I quite like your way of proving me wrong.” She admitted, a new found sleepiness present in her voice.
“Hmm, approval of my methods? Surely a first.” He said, rearranging them once more so that she was neatly tucked into his side.
Caroline entangled her legs with his, an arm reaching over his torso,
“Nice try. I said I like your methods with me, not so much the rest. Your people skills are a bit lacking, I'm afraid. Although my own methods of improving yours haven’t really worked” She teased, laughing lightly.
“That’s because I don’t let them.” He revealed, “why would I when you’re so much better.” He appreciated, silently being grateful for her renowned way with others. A contribution that allows the supernatural population of New Orleans to run without incident. Well...almost.
Caroline shrugged, “True. Besides, I love you either way.” She declared nonchalantly, his gaze now heavy despite not immediately uttering it back.
“Why don’t we come here more often?” Caroline muttered, sighing happily when Klaus grasped her hand.
“Because you’ve on a great deal of occasions mentioned, and I quote, ‘aren’t we a bit more civilized than vacationing in the middle of nowhere?’.” He remarked, gently capturing her lips once more, smiling into it as the words he’d quoted sunk in.
She was loud, and opinionated, and all his.
“I have a way with words.” She said in between kisses, pulling away and fidgeting under the sheets, in attempt to find her new sleeping position.
“I fail to see why you bother.” He said carefully, noting how no matter which position she choose to sleep in, the end result would always end with her sprawled over him, not that he preferred it any differently.
“Can’t hear you, I’m sleeping.” She sang lowly, planting her face into his pillow, her back pressed to his chest.
Klaus held back a snicker, relishing that while there were several things she heard, like his howling, there were also many things she didn’t need to hear---because she already knew.
This drabble is a belated birthday present for my Shatter Me twin Mina! For anyone else who gives this a go, I hope everything flow’s right and that it’s clear because I was trying to condense three book’s + kinda skip over one side of the triangle while still referencing it. Mina and I are 100% Warnette trash and so that’s kinda what this is, haha. I’m not tagging it as anything so, yeah.
I of course own none of the concepts, nor the final (even tho teensily altered) line, as that all came from the genius who created this magnificent trilogy, Tahereh Mafi. I shifted some things to kinda set a pattern, italics are memories Caroline is thinking of in reference to what she’s saying. Kay, I hope you enjoy Klaroline as Warnette @wavesofjoyy! :)
Imagine living in a world where not only does it completely suck to be alive, but there are people roaming around with special powers.
I’m one of them.
My name is Caroline Forbes, and when I touch people—they die.
“You have a very special gift, love.”
Caroline scoffed loudly, her expression blank. “I don’t think sucking the life out of people qualifies as ‘special’.” She retorted.
“I’ve seen enough things to know they’re rarely ever that simple.”
Frustratingly wise words from someone I can’t even talk about yet. Sure enough he was right, but for a long time that was the gist of what I could do. It’s why my story begins in a cell.
Caroline flinched when the steel door to her cell opened and a dark haired man trudged in, mattress in tow.
Her eyes widened at what this meant. No, they couldn’t be serious.
He gave the room a glance before his gaze landed on her, and she felt like she couldn’t breathe.
“The name’s Kol, and you must be Caroline, looks like we’re cell mates.”
That was sadly the least of the surprises in what became her completely unfair, fast-changing life. Imagine her shock when the man from her cell grasped her hand and lived to tell the tale.
“Why aren’t you dead?” She muttered in shock. “You’re supposed to be dead.”
“And here I thought we were getting along.” He answered, his grip on her hand tightening. “Listen to me, in a few minutes soldiers will come in here and take you to someone I promise you don’t wanna meet. Now, do you wanna know what’s going on, or not?” He asked her.
What was going on, was that Kol was a soldier with direct orders from his Commander to determine whether or not I was suitable for interaction with others. See, I’d been in that cell for a long time, cut off from everything and everyone. A fact that wasn’t really convenient for some people. Turns out I had quite the reputation, and my services were needed.
“I’m Klaus, Chief Commander and Regent of Sector 45, the army base you’re currently on.” He introduced strongly.
Caroline took in his delicate features, sandy blonde hair, impeccable attire, his presence dripping in arrogance.
“My intel tells me you’re Caroline Forbes, the girl with the lethal touch. I’ve heard a great deal about you.” He continued, eyeing her heatedly.
“Shame, I’ve heard almost nothing about you.” She retorted. “Not much talking get’s done in solitary confinement. I suppose you’re to thank for that.”
Klaus smiled widely, basking in her fire.
“I had nothing to do with you being in that cell, love. I’m just the man who got you out.” He revealed.
“I was in there because I killed someone, people don’t want me out, why is that not the case with you? I could kill half your soldiers just by touching them.” She tried.
“As untapped as I believe your true potential to be, you wouldn’t even make it to the door.” He hardened, causing Caroline to want to shrink down. “As for why I took you out, as we begin to explore your powers, that’ll become clear.” Klaus cryptically answered, much to her deep frustration.
Klaus was…a whole other aspect of all this. A very confusing and slightly antagonistic, but pivotal one. He had some…interesting ties to the Reestablishment, the government system that controls just about the majority of the world.
The very government I’m trying to overthrow.
Klaus tried in what I thought were the cruelest ways possible, to get me to harness whatever power he thought I had. In retrospect Klaus wasn’t my enemy, he never was. Given the circumstances though, it wasn’t something I was inclined to see.
Needless to say that didn’t exactly pan out, especially not with Kol having conspired to break me out. Things got conflicted fast, and before I knew it, we ran.
One house and Kol’s secret younger brother later, our group of three quickly became four when Enzo, another soldier found us, essentially saving our asses at the most opportune time.
As luck would have it, Enzo was part of a secret organization that housed the supernaturally gifted, and was also targeting to take down the Reestablishment.
It was a win-win.
“Where the hell is this place, it almost seems underground.” Caroline noted.
“It is, welcome to Omega Point.”
At Omega Point I’d learned to harness a better portion of my ability. An ability that far exceeded just killing someone with a touch. Enzo too had an ability, he was a walking cloak of invisibility, it’s why he was undercover at Sector 45.
And much to my already jarring life, Kol wasn’t ungifted either, it’s actually why he could touch my skin without suffering the consequences. He could disable the abilities of others, once at Omega Point he learned how to actually use it and coming into contact with me took a lot out of him.
Things with him had become exceedingly complicated. He was the first person willing to get to know me, to be able to touch me, and that meant everything to me. However, it was practically blanket security, which never lasts long.
Over time I could feel that we were more in love with idea’s of each other, rather than who we were actually becoming. A both enlightening and heartbreaking revelation. Not to mention, Klaus wasn’t exactly making any of those things easier, seeing as how he too could touch my skin and bare no consequences.
If anything he made it all emotionally worse. He’s a very tough shell to break, but he was always very open with me, even when I didn’t want him to be.
“What’s the deal with you and Supreme Commander Mikaelson anyway?” Caroline blurted out, standing upright at the far end of his cell in Omega Point.
“I’m afraid you’ll have to specify, love.” He answered, his gaze harder than it’s ever been.
“I just shot your Supreme Commander in the legs and then we took you prisoner, but you don’t seem to mind either of those things much.” She pestered.
“If you’re expecting me to feel certain sentiments over the injuries of my leader, you’ll be disappointed.”
“Are you not at some obligation to try and warrant retribution?” She wondered.
“Surely he thinks so, and considering he’s also my father, he expects as such.” He revealed, her breath catching in her throat.
Thinking back, I was ridiculously hasty in my plans against the Supreme Commander. Not only did I almost die because he shot me, but he blew up Omega Point and everyone in it—well, almost everyone.
Mikaelson had lured out Katherine and Elena, they were twins—healers. Guess he wasn’t too happy about the damage I did to his legs.
Having already been healed, the girls were being lead out of the compound. He also made sure Klaus was in the room, present and alert, so that he could watch his father shoot me.
“What have you done?!” Klaus gritted out, his face falling apart at the sight of Caroline bleeding from her chest on the ground.
“She could end us all, I did what I needed to.” He answered back, smiling at the twins struggling in the grasp of his soldiers. “Let’s go.” He continued with a nod.
Klaus leapt forward, taking his jacket and trying to stop the bleeding.
“Caroline? Come on love, don’t do this to me. Stay with me.” He pleaded, not being able to stand the deadpanned look of her usually vibrant eyes.
All he could think in that moment was how much he wished he could do what Katherine and Elena could, because if he could, he’d be able to save her.
All he wanted to do was save her.
And he did.
Turns out Klaus wasn’t of the ungifted side either. He has the ability to borrow the abilities of others. And since Katherine and Elena were still close enough, he managed to save my life.
You’d think since I had just narrowly escaped death, I’d have settled down into my reality, but the world I live in isn’t one with the best interests of people in mind, so I plan on changing it. And if that means taking out the Reestablishment to do it, I will.
“I thought I’d have to convince you to help me, not that you’d be the more animated one about it.” Caroline said, surprised at how much Klaus was willing to go along with whatever plan she had.
“My father is a monster and if you think we can take him out, I believe in that, I believe in you.” He said.
Caroline’s stomach fluttered, her chest heaving, taking in his dead serious stance.
She pondered the situation before her. That was really the fine line between him and Kol. Kol wanted so badly to do it all for her, ever since he thought she was a helpless girl in a cell. Klaus made sure she knew that she could do it all herself.
Ultimately Klaus took a risk in saving me, seeing as how he then proceeded to hide me in his room on Sector 45. If word got out to his father that I was still alive, that wouldn’t do anyone any good, and then we’d be right back to where we started.
I shifted in his bed when I heard him trudging into his room after having finished his duties.
“If we’re going to go meet the survivors from Omega Point to see if they want in, we’d better get going.” He said softly, probably since he knew I was going stir crazy holed up in his room all day.
“Klaus, we’re really doing this, aren’t we? Taking down the Reestablishment…killing your father?” I whispered.
“It’s about time someone did.” He started. “We just finally have the person who can.” He said, his gaze intense and full of adoration. “Ignite, Caroline. Ignite.”
klaroline + friends as kids, had falling out, reunite in college
I was gonna post this yesterday but it kinda fits today too? So it’s for both? Idk.

“Niklaus, tell me you at least plan on informing her.” Elijah pestered, the two of them standing in the town square, trying their best to avoid partaking in the festivities.
Mystic Falls has always been quite the place for holiday celebration, and that just about doubled when Caroline and Rebekah became teenager’s and joined every comittee imaginable. Their do it all attitude has yet to waver even now that they no longer reside in Mystic Falls, but attend their respective universities in New York City.
“Of course he’s gonna tell her, he’s gonna have to if he wants to prevent a meltdown.” Kol teased, walking up to the two brother’s holding a cup of coffee.
Klaus grumbled under his breath at their incessant taunting of his current situation.
“Would you believe me if I said I was nervous?” He spoke softly, rolling his eyes as Kol choked back a laugh.
“Of course I believe you, because you should be.” Kol started. “You guys having had a falling out was your doing, and now three years later, you’re starting graduate school at her university. If you weren’t nervous, I’d have asked what sorcery was at play.”
Klaus ran his hands over his face and mumbled. Sadly, everything Kol was saying was true. He and Caroline had been great friends–best friends, actually–since they were kids. He was a year older, and in High School they had quite the nack for dancing around their feelings, neither having acted on them.
At least that was the case, until he came home for the holiday’s after his first semester at Stanford while Caroline was a senior in High School, and they’d taken quite a few leaps in one go, sleeping with each other being the end result.
Truth be told, he doesn’t at all regret having done so, but his course of action’s shortly after could’ve certainly been far more calculated–humane even. Caroline was an all or nothing kind of person, which he explicitly knew after having known her for so long. He was an asshole to her, that much was known, by pretty much the whole town.
So when at the end of break he told her he didn’t think starting a full relationship, as he was all the way in California, was a good idea? Needless to say she wasn’t at all happy with him. It was that day almost three years ago to the date, that she ceased speaking to him.
A few month’s later she began attending Columbia University, thus making her lack of concern with him far easier as they were on complete opposite side’s of the country. A fact that was just about to change, seeing as he just achieved his B.A after four and a half years (due to one semester he spent studying abroad in Rome) and was now set to begin Graduate School…at Columbia.
Now that he was back home visiting for the holiday’s before relocating in the spring, he still has one matter to handle–telling Caroline.
“Yes, I surmise Caroline won’t handle this information well. However, I’ve always known her to be a fairly reasonable person.” Elijah added.
Klaus rolled his eyes, his brother’s situation with Caroline was far different than his.
“Easy for you to say, she has dinner with you, Kol, and Finn once a month.” He mumbled, blowing air into his cupped hands for warmth.
“And with their wives every other week. Sage and Katherine adore Caroline” Kol noted. “Plus, Rebekah is her roommate now that she goes to F.I.T.” He concluded.
Klaus groaned once more, not having fully comprehended just how much she was involved in his family’s lives outside of Mystic Falls. His groans continued as he caught a glimpse of that all too familiar blonde head of curls. He couldn’t help the small smile that etched onto his face, one that quickly fell as he took in the dark haired man whose arm she was latched onto, his younger sister trailing behind them.
“Nik!” Rebekah yelled out from across the square, leaving Caroline and this man behind as they trotted towards Liz Forbes, Caroline’s mother, who was stationed at the Mystic Falls P.D booth.
He held his arms out, catching his sister who flung herself into hugging him.
“Bekah, eager as always.” He teased, taking in her red peacoat, a black wool hat resting atop her straight blonde locks.
“Don’t be an ass.” She retorted, stepping out of his embrace and gravitating towards their older brother and embracing him.
“Rebekah.” He greeted, “How was your flight?” He said, watching her move on to hug Kol.
“Well, unbeknownst to me, Caroline had booked our flights in coach.” She began. “Thankfully, I found out and upgraded our seats, otherwise what a nightmare that’d have been.”
Klaus and his brother’s all bore the same expression at their younger sister’s dramatics, but yet couldn’t help the smile either.
“I did offer to bring you with me on the company jet earlier this week.” Elijah noted.
“Yes, and that’d have been lovely, but we’re not all hot-shot executives, some of us had finals, you know.” She snapped.
“What type of test’s could a fashion school possibly conduct?” Kol wondered out loud, earning stifled giggles from the other two.
“I’ll remember that the next time you want me to design a one of a kind dress for whatever conquest your infatuated with so that you can impress her.” She threatened, her eyes narrowing in seriousness.
“Now Bekah, there’s no need to be hasty.” He pleaded.
“Rebekah, who is that bloke that Caroline is presenting to her mother?” Klaus interrupted, having snapped out of the conversation with his siblings by the sound of Caroline laughing.
“The lot of you will never change, will you?” She asked. “I–your sister–have been here for five minutes, how about you bloody well ask me how I’m doing.” She said, frustrated but not at all surprised. “Not that it’s any of your business, and it isn’t, that’s Enzo. He’s our roommate, goes to school with Caroline. His family is in England for the holidays visiting relatives, and you know Caroline, a southern belle to the core, so she offered her hospitality for Christmas.” She informed, attempting to hide the tone of fondness in her voice when she spoke of him.
Klaus grumbled, a sultry look now on his face.
“Speaking of Caroline, when are you gonna tell her you’re invading her life?” She continued, receiving an exasperated sigh from Klaus.
“I’m not invading it–”
“Oh, I beg to differ.” Kol teased, his laugh cut short at the look his brother shot him.
“Columbia has the program I need for graduate school. Beside’s you’re all there in New York, Kol’s transferred from Tulane to NYU last fall, is it hard to believe I want to live closer to my family?” He tried.
“Yes.” The three of them agreed, proceeding to erupt in a fit of laughter soon after, watching Klaus stare longingly at his childhood crush. ————————-
Caroline stood in the line to buy some kettle corn, looking around for her co-pilot, when the very reason she needed one, creeped up on her.
“Hello, love.” She heard Klaus say softly, her entire body freezing for reasons other than the weather.
Turning around slowly she couldn’t help how her breath hitched at the sight of him. It’s been years since she’s fully faced him, and truth be told, she could have maintained such circumstances for several more years.
After regulating in her mind what she agreed her stance on his appearance should be, she composed the expression on her face.
“What do you want, Klaus?” She asked, trying not to get caught up in how much of an effect on her he still had. The circumstance between them be it that they may, she’ll never forget how tender and loving he was during their tryst. It was in part why she had such a difficult time grasping how they ended up the way they did. That, and that he was supposed to be one of her best friend’s, yet he was all too willing to forget and ignore what had transpired between them.
“To greet an old friend, I suppose. After all it is Christmas time.” He eased into, wincing at her total deadpanned expression.
He didn’t know how he was gonna tell her that she’d have to see him weekly, when it was exceedingly notable she could hardly look at him now.
“We haven’t been friend’s in a long time. You made sure of that.” She noted bitterly.
“If I recall correctly, it was you who ended all contact with me.” He tried to pointlessly defend, earning a loud scoff in return.
“Seriously?” She gritted out, moving closer towards him. “I’m not the one who used their supposed friend and then tried to gloss right over it. Ending contact with you is something I did for me, because everytime I look at you, I–you know what? I don’t owe you any explanations.” She said, turning around to face the front of the line.
“I’m starting grad school at Columbia in the spring.” He blurted out in a panic.
Klaus could see Caroline’s shoulders tense up, her body quick to whirl back around, a wicked smile on her face.
“Columbia is a large campus, and New York City is one of the busiest cities in the world, to be honest I’ll doubt I’d even see you around.” She said. “Is that all?” She dismissed, trying to peek over his head at the sight of Enzo waiting in line for coffee.
Klaus nodded somberly, his insides churning at her reluctance to give him the time of day, even though that he deserved as such.
“Great. Happy Holiday’s, Klaus.” She extended to him before side-stepping around him and out of the line to catch up to Enzo. Leaving behind a decimated former friend.
——————————–
Caroline sprinted in her heeled boots up to Enzo who was aimlessly failing at not trying to look suspicious.
“Where the hell have you been?” She whispered, ignoring the slight jump he gave at the sound of her voice.
“I was–with Bekah, I’ll save you the details.” He said, smiling at Caroline’s grimace of disgust seeing as how she clearly knew what he meant. “Saw you talking to your guy. I thought the plan was the exact opposite of that?”
“He’s not my guy, Enzo.” She hissed out. “Did Rebekah tell you he was starting at Columbia in the spring? There’s no way she didn’t know, I’ll kill her.” She continued, while nervously glancing around to make sure there were no signs of him reappearing.
“Ouch, what’d you tell him?”
“I acted like it was no big deal, obviously.” She quickly answered.
“Even though you’re in love with the very man you hate?” He poked.
“You know, I don’t tell Rebekah these things so that she can blab it to you!” She yelled, giving him a whack on the arm.
“Come on gorgeous, acknowledge good ol’ pillow talk.” He defended,”And I don’t see you hitting her over this.” He whined.
“Enzo, will you shut up? Also, if I were you I’d act just a tad bit more concerned about this.” She realized, smirking at the confused look on his face. “Now that Klaus is moving to New York, Bekah will have all her brother’s living in the same place again, and that means, it’s time to spill about the two of you. Not to mention the fact you already live together.” She said.
“Oh damn.” he uttered in realization.
“Time to face the Mikaelson family firing squad, aka all four of Rebekah’s brother’s.” She said smugly.
“Can’t you drop some hints about what a delightful bloke I am?” He asked, rolling his eyes at her giggles that preceded his request.
“I’m not using my monthly dinners with Finn, Elijah, and Kol to butter you up to them. Besides, they already like you.”
“Yeah, they like me as your friend. Doubt the same sentiments will apply when they learn I’m dating their only sister.” He gritted nervously.
“Will you relax? You know, you better not let your girlfriend hear you talk like this. She’s always struggled to find a guy that wouldn’t run at the sight of her brother’s, she thinks she’s finally found that in you. So don’t screw it up.” She lectured. “Anyway, the only one you really need to worry about is Klaus.” She revealed, much to his dismay.
“The one who probably thinks I’m dating you?!” He half-yelled.
Caroline grimaced in her nod.
“Yeah…we really should’ve thought this through better.”——————————-
It was Christmas morning in the Forbes household, Caroline was curled up on her couch with hot chocolate, Enzo sitting across from her. Almost all the present’s having been opened, a mess of wrapping paper all over the living room.
“Oh, there’s one more left, and it’s got your name on it, gorgeous.” He said, an eyebrow raised at the odd looking present, even though he remembered Rebekah having snuck it in last night during dinner.
Caroline’s face contorted in confusion, taking in the battered and stained wrapping paper that surrounded the square shaped box. The paper tore away easily, revealing a mahogany box with a see-through lid, through which she could see rolls of paper, and in the center–an envelope. Slowly reaching down she took in the worn edges of the paper, the running ink in the print of her name on the front, flipping it over she peeled it open and unfolded the paper inside. Letting out a shaky breath she read slowly.
Dear Caroline,
I’m sitting in my dorm writing this, took my last final in my first semester of college this morning, I’m immensely relieved. I get on a plane to come home tomorrow, and I’m exceedingly anxious.
I miss picking you up for school every morning, and dropping you off in the afternoon. I miss seeing you at cheerleading practice. I miss you helping me study because we were in the same classes. I miss everything about you.
I’ve spent quite a bit of this semester sketching you, I’m hoping by Christmas I’ll have worked up the courage to show them to you, as well as this letter.
Fondly,
Klaus
Caroline placed the letter down in front of her, looking at the dozen’s of rolled up pieces of parchment, her shaky hand reaching into the box and pulling one out. Untying the piece of string she eagerly unrolled the paper and gasped.
There etched beautifully onto paper was her face, she reached in and pulled out another after another, her breath catching as she took in each drawing, the tears she’d been holding back finally pooling around her eyes.
Enzo looked at her questioningly, before standing up to look at the contents that lay in her lap. He whistled softly, glancing eerily at the stunned blonde sitting with her legs crossed and motionless.
Grasping one of the drawings and picking up the letter, Caroline raced to the door, threw on her coat and grabbed her car keys before she exited her house in a sprint.
Enzo quickly pulled out his phone, sending a text to Rebekah.
‘Whatever you did, it worked.’
——————————
Klaus was sitting in the study by the entrance to the Mikaelson Mansion, a glass of bourbon in his hand, apartment listings in the other. After opening present’s with his family, they seemingly dispersed, never having been one’s to spend the entire Christmas day together.
He kept getting slightly distracted at the sight of the snow falling outside. He’d become unaccustomed to snow since having lived in California, but he was looking forward to becoming reacquainted with it now that he’d be moving to New York.
He frowned when the doorbell rang providing a further distraction. Sighing in annoyance he begrudgingly stood up and made his way to door, hurling it open, wondering who could possibly be visiting on this day.
At the sight of her, his anger disappeared. For there at his front door stood Caroline, coat unbuttoned, her Christmas PJ’s visible underneath, her cheeks pink from the cold, and her hair damp from the snow.
Klaus gaped, not knowing what to make of the situation.
“Caroline wha–”
“Why didn’t you give this to me four years ago?” She interrupted, shoving the pieces of paper in her hands into his face. The anger in her eyes evident.
Klaus took the paper’s she was holding out, his mouth dropping at the sight of what they were.
“How did you get these?” He wondered, his chest tightening as her face fell apart.
“Oh god, what does it matter?!” She yelled. “I want to know why you wrote and drew this, but yet things between us went the way they did. Because the whole ride over here I’ve been trying to make sense of it, and I can’t.” She sobbed, tears falling freely down her cheeks. “You hurt me, Klaus. More than I ever thought you’d be capable of. And after reading this, I want to know why.” She demanded, wiping at her tears.
Klaus looked down in shame, amongst many other emotions.
“I love you, Caroline.” He blurted out, her eyes widening in surprise. “I always have.” He continued. “When I came back from school, and we’d fallen back into our pattern, I had every intention of telling you. But then I realized that it would’ve never worked. I was all the way in California, I knew you hadn’t applied to any school’s there. I was terrified, Caroline.” He said.
“I was terrified that if we’d attempted to do this at long-distance it would’ve been over before it ever began, and that scared me more than not having you at all.” He revealed.
“So what, you just made the decision for the both of us?” She asked. “You had your go at me and that was all you needed so why bother with a relationship, right?”
“No.” He whispered, defeated.
“So then what, Klaus?!” She screamed. “Why not even give us the chance to try?” She asked softly.
“It may not have panned out, and I’m a coward who wasn’t willing to take the risk.” He answered. “I always knew that if I were ever given a chance with you, I’d give it everything I had, and I just couldn’t do that all the way in California. It wouldn’t have been fair to you.” He finished, reaching up to wipe the falling tears from Caroline’s face.
“What you did do wasn’t fair to me either, you know.” She retorted.
“I know.” He acknowledged. “And I’m sorry. Once I made my decision I hadn’t intended for us to go down that route. But I’m not sure if you’re aware, you’re quite irresistible, sweetheart.” He said, his heart fluttering at the small smile now etched on her face.
“So I’ve been told.”
Klaus scowled, remembering that she did come home with someone this time.
“Not by that Enzo bloke, I hope.” He eased into.
“And how is it that you know his name?” She asked, pulling her face out of his hands.
“Rebekah was quite the informant on him.” He said, eyebrow raising at her giggling soon after.
“Well I should hope so, seeing as how he’s her boyfriend.” She revealed, taking great pleasure in the dumbfounded look on Klaus’ face.
“Quite the Christmas full of truth’s, isn’t it?” He said lightly.
Caroline pondered what she was about to say before getting straight to it.
“Did you mean what you said, about loving me?” She asked bluntly.
“I may have omitted several things to you in the past, but you can trust that I’d never lie to you.” He confirmed.
Caroline took a deep breath before leaping up and pressing her lips to his, her arms lacing their way around his neck.
Klaus stood frozen for a mere moment before wrapping his arms up her back, pressing her tightly to his chest, his tongue pushing for entry into her mouth.
She moaned softly before granting him access, her hands moving into his hair, grasping at his curls repeatedly. Their mouths fused together, never missing a beat.
Caroline pulled away first, looking down to hide the non-cold related blush to her face.
“Good, because I love you too.” She said. “And you better treasure that kiss for quite sometime, Klaus. It’s the last one you’ll get, at least until you’ve earned the prospect of a relationship with me back.” She challenged. “Because when you get to New York, we’ve got many date’s to go before we get there.” She concluded, her terms not at all surprising to Klaus.
If your taking drabbles. Klaus is addicted to candy crush. Caroline isn't getting any attention. you can make up the solution x)
“No Isaac, I told you those flowers go right by the front hall entrance. The roses go in the dining room!” Caroline spat for what felt like the twentieth time that day. Klaus’ minions were utterly useless today and usually his lurking kept them scared enough to not screw up, but he was nowhere to be found.
Typical, she thought. The night before the ball for Rebekah’s birthday, their home was not even close to being done and he was off doing god know’s what.
“Now gorgeous, with a temper like that it’s a wonder why anyone refers to you as the compassionate one instead of your boyfriend.” Enzo teased, a glass of some alcohol he shouldn’t be drinking this early in the day, settled in his hand.
Caroline rolled her eyes, a smirk forming on previously agitated face. Suddenly remembering the task she assigned him, she turned form where she stood in their foyer to face him before Enzo beat her to the punch.
“Yes, I’m on my way out with her now, she’s waiting in the car. I’ll have her back here tomorrow on time.” He confirmed, smiling at his friend’s sigh of relief.
“8:20 and not a second before or after, I mean it!” She threatened. “There’s plenty of things for you to do in New Orleans, so I don’t want any excuses.” She berated. Her calm posture was disrupted at what she was absolutely sure was the sound of a vase breaking. Taking the clipboard in her hand she slammed it on the foyer table.
Enzo’s eyebrow’s raised, hesitating before he softly set his glass down. “Right, well that’s my cue. I’ll see you tomorrow, if you need to kill someone have Klaus do it.” He said quickly before ushering out of the house.
Caroline grumbled, her blood boiling in her veins. Stomping through every room she get’s to, her search ends when she finds him in Elijah’s study. If he was in there it’s because he didn’t want to be found. Elijah’s very nitpicky about who enter’s his rooms, hence why most of them never even bother.
“Klaus, what the hell?!” She gritted out, her eyes widening in disbelief at the sight of him sitting in the window seat glued to his cellphone. “I’ve been dealing with your incompetent vampire’s all damn morning and you’ve been in here doing what, exactly?” She pestered.
His demeanor turned rigid, before locking his phone and sliding it into his pocket. “Had some business in the French Quarter to handle, you know how it is, love.” He tried, walking over and placing his arms around her.
Caroline’s eyes narrowed, leaning her head back to get a good look at him. Moving her hand slowly she shoved it into his pocket before snatching his phone and unlocking it, speeding to the other side of the room to look.
“Oh my god.” She whispered in disbelief. “Oh my god, seriously!? This is what you’ve been doing, playing Candy Crush?” She revealed out loud, almost wanting to laugh the look of shame plastered across his face. That might just be punishment enough…for now.
“If they screw one more thing up I’ll take Enzo’s advice and make them wonder which one of us is the nicest.” She threatened, gesturing to the bustle of people moving around outside before shoving him out the door.———————The next time it happens they were supposed to be watching a movie, not that it at all went to plan. She was laying across his chest, his eyes boring into the back of her head, or at least that’s where she thought they were.
Her eyes showed a glint of mischief before she turned her body and straddled him.
Klaus smirked, one hand settling on her thigh, the other still gripping the phone in his hand. “Sweetheart, don’t you wanna finish the movie?” He eased, gently squeezing the flesh in his hand.
Caroline scoffed before leaning forward and placing soft kisses on his neck. “You weren’t even watching the movie, Klaus.” She whispered into his ear. “Besides, this is a better use of our time.” She continued, her hands traveling down to unbuckle his belt.
Freezing when she heard soft sounds, she sat upright, her hands leveling her by leaning on his chest. “Tell me you’re joking.” She said menacingly, her eyes hard at the sight of him focused on his phone.
“Caroline I--” He stammered before she cut him off and scrambled to stand beside their bed. He tried to follow after but frowned as she sped off. -------------------The next afternoon Klaus is sitting in the living room, at the game once more, grumbling when he failed to complete the level in time and just as Elijah waltzed into the room.
"Where have they gone off to this time?” He asked, successfully confusing the hell out of his younger brother.
Klaus shook his head and shrugged. “Who’s they?” He asked curiously, noticing Enzo sauntering through the door.
Elijah’s gaze narrowed. “The girls.” He curtly answered. “Caroline, Katerina, and Rebekah departed this morning, when I asked where they were going, I was told to ask you. You mean you didn’t even know they were leaving?” He asked amazed, his body turning around at the sound of Enzo’s laughter.
Klaus sat frozen on the couch. Caroline hadn’t mentioned anything, neither had his sister, and heavens knows Katerina wouldn’t ever tell him anything. Looking towards the dark-haired brit, he sped over and slammed Enzo into wall.
“Where did she go?” He demanded, his eyes livid at the scenario in front of him.
Enzo shook his head and suppressed another fit of laughter. “I’m afraid it won’t be that easy, mate.” He said. “Caroline’s exact words were ‘if he want’s to find me, tell him he’s gonna have to put that damn phone down long enough to do so.’ So if I were you, I’d start looking.” He revealed. “Oh, and not a single one of them took a credit card or their cellphone’s so I say you’ve got your work cut out for you.” He finished, his laughter echoing through the large house at the stunned man he left behind.
Klaus gripped the phone in his hand so hard the screen shattered.
Elijah chuckled, placing a hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Perhaps that’s what you should’ve done from the start.”

“NO!” She yelled out, choking back a sob as she watched his body fall to the ground. Rushing forward there was what felt like several hundred thoughts running through her head. Yet it wasn’t possible because she was only thinking one thing.
He couldn’t die, not for her and certainly not by their hand. Falling to her knees she grasped his head tightly in his hands, a sob escaping her.
“Klaus.” She whispered, her forehead pressed like glue to his. “You idiot! I told you I was going to handle this.” She cried.
“How could you possibly think I’d leave you to face this on your own?” He breathed out. “You should have told me the truth, Caroline.” He rasped out, heaving forward in pain.
“I’m gonna go get help and you’re going to be fine–you have to be fine.” She cried out. Her entire body flinching at the soft chuckle heard in the distance.
“Afraid not. You see, I hexed him with a curse only your grandmother knows how to counter. No one’s going to get here in time, Caroline. Only way you’re both making it out of here alive is by some miracle and well, we don’t believe in those.” They said.
Dragging Klaus’ head onto her lap she looked up at the culprit, noticing the moon in waning form directly behind their obscured face.
“How could you do this to us?” She gritted out, having let the rage boil deep inside her. “How could you betray people from your own coven?”
——————————-
Caroline awoke out of her sleep, gasping for breath as she took in her surroundings. Her hand automatically reaching up to grasp the Jade crystal necklace hanging around her neck.
Feeling the dampness on her cheeks she blinked away the rest of her tears. She hasn’t had this dream in two years.
Dream.
How wishfully thoughtful of her. This was no dream, it was a vision.
One she’d been having frequently, but hasn’t seen since it became the sole reason she left the coven two years ago–temporarily of course.
As the centerfold of the Triquetra–the trio of witches selected by the spirits to harbor the power of a single coven–she had a great responsibility. They say every coven is only as powerful as it’s Triquetra, and she’d left before the third witch had even been selected, abandoning her training thus leaving the Lux Coven weaker than it’s ever been.
Needless to say she’s probably not anyone’s favorite person.
Begrudgingly climbing out of bed, phone in hand she made her way into the kitchen, smiling at the opened contents of the care package she’d received earlier that week. Incantations she needed to study, recipes, this box contained her grandmother’s tea which she was immensely grateful for. She hasn’t had it in so long it even tasted different. The boxes were usually composed of things Katherine piled together and as always were accompanied with letters the length of roads keeping her well informed of everything happening within the coven. Caroline took a deep breath as she began boiling water for tea.
Her thoughts drifted to Klaus and that was always very dangerous territory. Katherine always left his details out of her letters, leading her to accept that it’s because whatever he was up to wasn’t something she’d be happy about. No amount of magic in the world was powerful enough to have dwindled the ache in her heart whenever she thought of him. Among the list of people not happy with her, she figures he’s probably number one.
Even though she left to give the elders time to search for anything that might alter the course of that vision. She left to save his life and making sure he lives wasn’t something she would ever apologize for. No matter how much it hurt that he was so distraught with her on her haphazard exit. But what else could she have done? Interrupted their make-out sessions with ‘hey, you’ll never guess what I had a vision of last night, it was of you possibly dying. Now take off your pants.’, that doesn’t exactly fit societal norms of conversation, does it?
The loud chime of her phone almost startled her enough to have dropped to tea kettle. Bonnie’s name flashed across the screen and a wave of relief washed over her. She was the other member of the Triquetra and was aware of why she’d left, and that made talking to Bonnie the easiest.
“Bonnie Bennett, do you know what time it is? These are not the hours to spend chit chatting on the phone.” She’d teased, quoting her friend’s Grandma Sheila. The soft giggles on the other end warmed her heart.
“Don’t even try me, Caroline. You know that until the Triquetra powers are binded we’re emotionally tethered to one another for protection.” She spoke softly. “Did you have the vision?” She hesitantly asked.
“For the first time in two years” She confirmed. “Something changed though.” She started. “I could see the waning moon in this version, and you know what that means.”
The three witches represent the three phases of the moon, waxing, full, and waning. For the first time since she’d begun having this vision, a phase of the moon was visible–the waning phase. Which means the final member of the Triquetra was going to be selected soon, and that meant–that it was time to go back to Mystic Falls.
“Time to come home, Caroline.”
——————–
She stared up at her family’s four story house, her distance from it made laying eyes upon it again feel almost brand new. She had to hand it to her ancestors, they knew how to design a house. The staircases on each side both leading up to the front door brought back so many memories. That’s where they’d posed for prom pictures, graduation one’s, even on All Hallow’s Eve just for fun. She had a beautiful life here and she took the risk of leaving it all behind just in case the elders could single out the potential traitor. All for nothing seeing as how they were exactly the same as it was two years ago. She gambled and lost.
Hearing the door open from the first floor she raced to see who it was.
“Stefan!” She called out towards the brunette in the process of shutting her grandmother’s green house door.
His eyes widened before grinning and leaning forward to wrap his arms around her.
“Well I’ll be damned. Caroline Forbes, what on earth are you doing back here? Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled but you know you caused quite a sense of chaos when you left, right?” He inquired, pulling away.
The floor suddenly became much more interesting as her eyes shot down in shame.
“I know what I was setting in motion when I left, Stefan. But you know me, I wouldn’t have ever done it unless I really needed to.” She whispered. He nodded before leading her up towards the left side stair case. “What were you doing down here?” She asked, remembering the need to be suspicious of everything and anyone.
Stefan opened his hand to reveal the handful of Vervain flowers.
“We’ve got a live one upstairs. Enzo and Kol brought him in during patrol of the borders this morning.” He revealed, hopping up the several steps.
Caroline froze in her tracks and leaned forward to make sure she hears whatever he’s about to say right. “So does that mean–”
“That Klaus is upstairs too? Afraid so.” He interrupted. “But on the bright side, this way you can just get it over with, right?” He tried, hauling her by the arm up the remaining steps.
Stepping back inside her house after so long was indescribable. She’d felt her powers surge to full force the second she stepped back inside Mystic Falls, but standing in her own home gave her a different kind of power. Following Stefan to the secret room in the back, she heard the murmurs of everyone she’d missed so dearly. She had to hand it to Stefan, he really was the rip-off-the-bandaid kind of guy. He wasn’t gonna give her any time to mentally prepare for what was about to happen.
A random Vampire was being tied up and all she could think about was the man’s back currently in front of her.
“Ut funem contine diabolus anima.” His heavy accent chanted out. Her breath caught at the sound of his voice. Her goal had been to go as unnoticed as she could, but when you’re friends with Katerina Petrova–or preferably to her, Katherine–you don’t go through life unnoticed.
“It’s about damn time, Forbes!” She yelled out, surging forward to embrace her friend in a deathgrip. Klaus’ body froze and she took in the concerned looks from his siblings, Enzo, Marcel, and Stefan.
“There won’t be any time if you don’t let me breathe, Kat.” She teased, disengaging from the embrace. The warm smiles of Elena, Bonnie, and Rebekah eased her stomach. For a second she thought she could get through this, that is until Klaus turned around.
Her heart sank at the absolute sorrow and hate that loomed in his eyes. She opened her mouth and wasn’t at all surprised to find that nothing came out. She could’ve pondered for days on what to say and the result would’ve been the same.
She could feel every single person in the room’s eyes on them but it felt like they were the only two there. Just as she was about to try again, he glanced at the ground and exited without so much as another glance.
She blinked away any forthcoming tears. Glancing at all the somber looks around the room, she huffed and followed his lead. If she was going to rejoin her world and get to the bottom of who would betray the coven, there was a lot of work to be done. She just wished coming clean to Klaus was part of it.
Alright, I do so much enjoy feedback so please tell me what you’re thinking, if you’d like more, etc. Until next time!
Hello! This is your KC Wednesday prompt: Klaus is in danger from a witch in New Orleans. She has found a way to incapacitate the originals; Rebekah and Elijah are already out. The only thing that can kill the witch is an ancient blade he’s kept hidden in his house in Mystic Falls. He needs the only person he can trust to retrieve it for him, Caroline. Happy Writing!
Hey, everyone! Okay, there’s some S3 stuff up in this drabble cause there’s something from S3/S4 that I had always wanted to get some elaboration on and we never got it, and this drabble kind of gave me the opportunity for it, so I took it and ran with it. —————————————————-Don’t answer it.
Whatever you do, don’t answer Klaus’ call.
But what if something’s wrong?
Caroline chomped away at her thumbnail currently between her teeth. The last time they’d spoken she told him it’d be a while before they spoke again. There were a lot of things running through her mind, and she couldn’t deal with him in there too. At least now right now.
Screw it.
Her hand reached forward and lifted the phone to her face, answering the call in the process.
“You know this goes against the rules we set last time, right?” She said wearily, sighing in relief when she heard him chuckle lightly. Last time she’d talked to him, it was after her mom died, things were a mess with Stefan, and nothing made sense to her. He’d been the one to contribute to her sense of perception. Needless to say she was panicking and he got her to see straight.
“I remember, love.” He whispered. “Which is why you know I wouldn’t intrude, not unless I absolutely needed to.” He answered. Caroline’s heart sped up, instinctively glancing around to make sure no one was near.
“Whatever trouble you’ve gotten yourself into now, just remember that you don’t die alone.” She enforced. That’s just typical of him to be wrapped up in some mess that will get him killed. Which as a result would kill thousands–including her. “I’m starting to think we were safer when our looming threat was you.” She teased, yet secretly in all seriousness. At least when he was in Mystic Falls they’d know if someone was after him, which by default meant all of them.
“You don’t need to remind me, I’m very well aware.” He answered back. He sighed deeply and then he did something odd–he hesitated. “Caroline, I need you to do something for me.” He continued, peaking her interests. Her heart tugged in her chest at the sound of his very rare vulnerable tone.
“Okay.” She answered immediately. Klaus does many things, but asking for help and hesitating are not among them. She intends to hold this momentous occasion dear for a very long time. Zoning back in on her conversation with Klaus, she listened intently as he gave her extremely specific instructions. If she weren’t so annoyed that he might die, she’d admire his precision.————————————–Caroline’s nose wrinkled at the musty smell in the Mikaelson mansion. Didn’t take a genius to know that no one’s been in here since he and his siblings packed up–not quite seeing as how they left everything beside’s the artwork behind–and skipped town. Speeding up the grand staircase she wandered looking for his room.
Her breath caught as she passed the room before where his bed was. She remembered the one and only time she’s ever been in here very well. Seeing his tastes in art was lovely, but seeing his own artwork was even better. Her heart ached, that seemed like an entire life time ago. As vividly as she recalls her feelings for him then, what she would give to go back to that time. A time where everything was a thousand times simpler.
Snapping out of her memories she looked around for the large mahogany trunk that contained what he needed. Spotting it by one of the windows she opened it, coughing at the dust and began to sift through.
Squealing in delight when she located the item at the bottom she practically inspected it, as if she’d know if something were wrong with it. He needed this blade–desperately. Whoever this witch was has already temporarily taken out Rebekah and Elijah, and before Klaus is next, she needs to hurry. Standing up quickly she almost sped out of the house–almost. Glancing at the framed pieces of parchment on the wall behind his bed, she narrowed her eyes and trudged forward. Reaching up to wipe the layers of dust from the glass, she begun to read.
“Oh my god.”
Love letters.
He had framed dozens upon dozens of love letters on his bedroom wall.
Klaus, big bad hybrid, has a soft spot for touchy feelings expressed through letters. She didn’t know whether to laugh or allow her fondness to grow.
He didn’t write any of these though. She knew his handwriting, and none of these were it. Knowing Klaus, chances are he did not acquire any of these through even remotely decent methods. Yet it dwelled on her, the image of him sifting through someone’s letters just to get a sense of a love he genuinely believed he’d never have. A love he had over 1000 years to make an attempt at, yet from what she knows, he never tried.
Until he did.
Until he had tried, and it had been for her.
Her nail found it’s way between her teeth again, and at this rate she’d have no nails left. Shaking her head she left the mansion, hopping into her car to begin the very long drive to where he’d ask her to meet him. She had offered to just drive right up to New Orleans, but that was a possibility for all of about two seconds. He refuses to let her anywhere near Louisiana, ‘that’s far more danger than I’m willing to put you in, love’ ugh, what a load of crap. Instead he’s having her meet him in Mississippi. These encounters always turn out being not what she’s expecting, and she imagine’s this one will be no different.———————————–“First place you take me to is Mississippi?” She started as she closed her car door. “I gotta say, I’m a bit disappointed.” She teased, a wide smile etching it’s way onto her face at the sight of him.
“Please, if that time ever comes, disappointed will be the last word you can think of.” He answered confidently. She nodded before really weighing the possible outcome of what she was about to say.
“If you come through on that, I might just write you a love letter of your own.” She said nervously, loving the entire array of emotions she could see transpire on his face. His eyes had widened in surprise, then lowered in embarrassment, and finally quirked up in excitement–it was amazing. She held out the box with the blade inside, jolting when his hand touched hers. He pulled her forward, his forehead resting against hers before his face inched lower.
“I’ll hold you to that.” He whispered, before pressing a chaste kiss to her neck. She shivered, her arms reaching up to grasp his face in her hands.
“Go make sure we live first.” She reminded him, noticing the amused look on his face.
“Not to worry, love. I now have that under control.” He said, gesturing to the box in his hands. Caroline nodded before pulling away from his embrace.
“You’d better, seeing as how I drove for an entire day to give you that control.” She witted. Klaus smirked as he watched her climb into her car.
Smiling warmly through her window she shortly waved her hand.
They were never one’s for goodbye’s. Every time they parted ways, things were alway’s left open-ended.
Exactly the way she needed them to be.———————————–Yayayayayayaay! S3/S4 references, TAKE US BAAAAACK. Oh my god, do you guys remember the love letters Klaus had framed on his bedroom wall in the Mikaelson mansion? I had always wished they’d done more with that cause when we heard the spoilers for that, I thought it’d be a topic of discussion with Klaroline and I was bummed it wasn’t. I think it was Stefan who found the letters, when he was looking for the Hunters Sword in Klaus’ room. Do we remember that? *sigh* good times. It was a weird parallel to Stefan’s list of names in the Chicago apartment. Anyway, let me know what you think!
