What Warehouse 13 needed to be a 10/10 show (besides Bering and Wells being canon) was a beach episode.
Steve Jinks is like the only human lie detector character I've seen where it's acknowledged how shit that would be sometimes and it turns him into a shy pedantic pain in the ass who can't date anyone without being upset that they lie about little things to save his feelings and as an autistic person I feel a deep affinity with that tbh and it just means even more because he's gay even though they don't show it much it's like he'd get it you know about it being hard to fit in in the community and connect with people he would get it and like he'd just accept whatever weird thing you tell him as long as it's the truth I love you Steve I wish the writers did too
Do you think HG ever looks at Steve and knows he’s there because she broke Myka’s heart so badly?
Like, obviously he deserves to be there, and he’s a part of the family, but they didn’t seem to be interested in looking for another agent when it was only Pete and Myka, Claudia and Artie.
And then HG. And Myka leaves.
So they find another agent, because suddenly they need one.
And Myka comes back (thanks to HG, and there’s some redemption in it), but Steve is still there.
And Steve is great! He’s the perfect addition. But it doesn’t change the past.
Do you think Helena ever looks at him, and all she can think about is how badly she hurt Myka?
Steve is perceptive, and he cannot be lied to. He would notice the way HG looks at him. The emotions and thoughts that she can’t quite hide, as good at it as she is. It’s in her eyes.
And Steve never lets anything sit. The truth must out.
So he approaches HG. Quietly, privately, of course, because he’s kind, and he asks if she wants to talk.
When has HG ever been good at that? With feelings, at least. The truth.
And so it’s unstoppable force versus immovable object, because HG can dance around an answer like she’s performing on a stage, and it isn’t technically a lie.
But Steve knows this. Steve has practice with this. Because they know he knows, people look for ways not to answer him, and he’s learned how to ask a question so that the answer cannot be obfuscated.
And so HG finally says it. She has no choice. And she needs to, frankly. She needs some relief from the pressure of it inside her mind.
Do you think Steve is the first person she admits she loves Myka to? Honestly and aloud. Do you think, also, that she tells him that she knows what she has lost, what her own actions have destroyed the possibility of?
Steve knows how to take a secret. He knows how to keep it.
But the truth must out.
So Steve wouldn’t tell HG what he knows, but he can tell her what he’s seen. Do you think he tells her that it’s not possible to look at someone the way Myka looks at HG without meaning it? Do you think he mentions that Myka loved HG Wells from childhood, but gave him up the moment she met Helena? Do you think he tells her that keeping herself from Myka as punishment, punishes Myka too?
And hearts can break, but they can also mend.
Do you think Helena would finally say what she needs to say, to the person who needs to hear it?
I just think Steve could have been exactly the friend Helena needed.
You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me
@purlturtle you really nailed it and I had fun finding the pics :D
If Myka and Steve were partners
Myka: Okay! That's Susanna Hoffs' guitar pick located, contained, and nullified, with no-one being affected and forced to share their innermost thoughts as intense power ballads! And in just under four hours!
Steve: I'll let Claudia know to change our flights to this afternoon, and cancel the motel bookings!
Myka: This operation will come in under budget! Artie will be so pleased with us!
Steve (points at her): And that's no lie!
They high five
If Pete and HG were partners
Pete: Nothing much in this drawer, just papers. And this old-timey compass.
HG: You should lick it
