In much of Western classical music for the last several centuries, it would seem the body has become disconnected from the music. Musicians were taught to use their bodies as quietly as possible, to play almost motionless. In [Schick's] performances that bodily aspect is inseparable from the music. You could say, he does bare all.

In the Spotlight: San Francisco Contemporary Music Players
One of Crissy Broadcast’s participating organizations is the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. Now in its 42nd season, SFCMP gives its audience members and friends opportunities to discover musical repertoire that is new to them. Led by Artistic Director Steven Schick, SFCMP is solely devoted to repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly the work of living composers.
Composers today are creating a vast musical language of the 21st century, spanning cultures and breaking stylistic constraints. SFCMP wants to share this rich musical canvas with as many people as possible, both in and out of a traditional concert setting – and Crissy Broadcast is certainly out of that “traditional” setting.
The San Francisco Contemporary Music Players have been called the Bay Area’s “premiere new music ensemble” by Joshua Kosman (San Francisco Chronicle). The ensemble has also been awarded the national ASCAP/Chamber Music America Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music ten times. To learn more, please visit http://sfcmp.org.
