ALBUMS FOR FEBRUARY, no. 9. Rufus (ft. Chaka Khan), Rags to Rufus. You know what I expected? I expected 40 minutes of “Tell Me Something Good,” which I learned while reading about this is a Stevie Wonder song! That kid. But no. That song, one of the most best funky radio hits of the seventies with its off-kilter verses and wah-wah and talkbox and Wonderesque clavinet, mm mm mm, that song is a de-light. But no, that’s not what this record is. Some of it is, especially in its instrumentals, almost. But then sometimes Chaka Khan sings like it’s a showtune, or a Diana-Ross-in-the-era-of-Mahogany type song. It’s all good, I liked it. It wasn’t what I expected at all, though. I could use a whole album of different flavors and colors of “Tell Me Something Good.” Another gift of the @tiberiuskohn collection. #chakakhan #rufus #rufusfeaturingchakakhan #tellmesomethinggood #steviewondercover (at Noblesville, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL0ur8yL-Tz/?igshid=1pynvfrgju74r
