Were you ever told / have you ever heard of the superstitious belief that if you are at a place were it's POSSIBLE for you to encounter bad things there, if you speak out loud about the bad things you can potentially encounter at that place, you will actually encounter those bad things, and therefor you should not mention them out loud at all? β *For instance, if you're hiking in the woods and you speak about animals like tigers, cougars, coyotes, bears, etc (assuming it's the area where it's ACTUALLY POSSIBLE for these animals to be spotted), you may actually run into them, because you speak about them out loud and therefore you have "summoned" them
Yes, I was told about this before / I've heard about this before
No, I was never told about this before / I've never heard about this before
Additional comment from the submitter: βThis is a common belief in my culture, especially among older people. My grandparents would always tell me about this when I was a kid. Although it's not the same as manifesting good things (so the belief is only about BAD things, not good ones). Also it's about bad things that CAN happen, so obviously if you talk about sharks while hiking in the woods, you're not actually going to run into one. But if you're diving or swimming in the ocean and you talk about sharks, you might actually encounter them.β
