I love this comes from people who demand answers and yet when they're given solid ones they dismiss, or completely ignore them. They can keep pretending to be so enlightened, when really they've been completely blinded. I would suggest exploring your own racism before assuming the motives of others.
The thing is, I do explore my own racism. In this fandom alone, I realised that the few times I mentioned Dr. Deaton in fics I was playing into racist stereotypes; with the whole mystical, untrustworthy, cryptic stuff, and having Scott find that annoying, and I cut that out.
I realised that never acknowledging any of Scott’s flaws was a form of racism and I worked to explore those mistakes and I don’t give him a pass for them all the time. Sometimes I do, because I’m one of those annoying Pollyanna sunshine and rainbow types, but when I am happy to discuss fuck-ups, I recognise Scott’s.
When people hold Scott up above Stiles and talk about Scott being too good for Stiles and Stiles being toxic, I piss people in my own corner of the fandom off and point out that Stiles has good reasons for the way he acts, and most of the time I can empathise with him even if I don’t agree with his actions. There are a couple of times in the show I can’t forgive either Scott or Stiles for but I just... ignore them.
I really, really don’t like Lydia? I don’t know why. I’d like to think it’s not because she’s getting in the way of my ship, because I like Allison, Kira and Malia. But maybe it is internalised misogyny? So I don’t rant about what a terrible character Lydia is and how badly and inconsistently she was written, and all the times she let the others down, because I know it could be my own bias at play. I don’t spend a lot of time talking about Lydia. I don’t write meta about her. I also don’t completely erase her in my fics or bash her, though? She exists there. I reference Stiles’ crush on her/relationship with her. I just don’t write fics exploring her.
It’s, like, so easy to do.
You hate Scott? You have your own reasons that aren’t rooted in racism? Fine, I accept that. I believe that to be true. You then spend an accumulated amount of hours spreading how much you hate him on your own personal blog?... okay. You do you, I guess? You shoot down any and all explorations of wider fandom politics - fandom is a reflection of the outside world, we know this - the outside world is racist and there are, unfortunately, common fannish trends that mirror that. Um... but why are you bothering with that? You decide to directly reply to me, a known Scott Stan™ to refute any! cases! of! racism! at! play! Sorry, but what a waste of time.
TLDR; not everyone who hates Scott is racist, but if you hate Scott and you talk about it endlessly and you bring it up whenever anyone mentions him and then you say no one else who hates Scott could possibly be racist too, and the fact a HUGE number of the fandom used to completely sideline, ignore and insult this character, when he’s really no different from the others they hold up as characters they love... (”Scott is a potato” was a trend for years - cruel and ableist!) I am rolling my eyes at you so hard. Because I am exactly the kind of sanctimonious prick you all accuse Scott of being and I’m old enough that I don’t care.
